Chapter 578: Dare to Ruin My Plans?
Chapter 578: Chapter 578: Dare to Ruin My Plans?
Ke Kai felt quite wronged, but he also knew what he had done. Because even now, he could still see the figure of his own grandfather holding someone, and that someone, needless to say, was none other than his own boss lady, Zhu Qianying!
"The door...wasn’t locked..."
After Ke Kai’s initial fear had subsided, he gradually regained some bravery.
"Get out!"
With a roaring shout from the man called Yan, Ke Kai was scared into rolling right out of the room.
Fortunately, fearing that his grandfather might be handling some secret matter at the time, he had left the visitor he brought back with him in the living room. Otherwise, if that gentleman had witnessed his grandfather’s ill temper, who knows if he would have been scared to death on the spot.
Yan’s loud bellow had also given Zhu Qianying quite a scare, causing her to instinctively clutch tightly onto Yan’s waist. That’s when Yan realized he’d scared her too and quickly bent down to gently caress and kiss her face and lips.
"Baby, it’s okay..."
Once Zhu Qianying had finally managed to recover from her shock and confusion, she looked up at him, her gaze filled with irritation. "Why so fierce?"
Yan gently patted her back. "No tact at all!"
Clearly, he was upset at Ke Kai for barging in and spoiling his plans.
Zhu Qianying was about to intervene on Ke Kai’s behalf, when she heard the man’s angry voice again, "How dare he ruin my plans. He should be killed!"
Zhu Qianying froze, looking down to realize that the buttons on her clothing had already been undone by the man at some point. Suddenly, she understood why he was so agitated.
Zhu Qianying lightly pinched his earlobe, "Okay, we have serious matters to attend to!"
Actually, she was truly indulgent towards this man.
Half of her emotions had been stirred up by Yan’s provocative behaviour, and the other half was still lingering in the feelings of bitterness turning sweet that she and he shared, feelings that were to be cherished. Therefore, she had completely forgotten that they were in a working environment and wanted to recklessly surrender to the joy in front of her.
And Yan, naturally aware of her passionate response, felt liberated to express his desires towards her.
Now, a clueless fool had ruined everything, all he could do was grit his teeth in frustration, "This is a serious matter!"
Regardless of his statement, Zhu Qianying could not continue with him at this point. After all, she still remembered the purpose of her visit here today.
"Good boy, let’s deal with the serious matters first, alright?"
She was still employing a coaxing tone with him. After her coaxing, she gave a peck on the face of the man who had a tense, unsatisfied look on his face.
She, however, stood up and slowly bent down to button up her shirt.
Yan was truly disgruntled, but he remembered today’s plan.
He hesitantly reached out his hand to remove hers, and personally buttoned up the buttons he had undone himself.
"Remember what you said, make it up to me after we’re done with the serious business!"
Zhu Qianying rolled her eyes inwardly, when did I say I would make it up to you?
But what came out of her mouth was, "Yes, dear, let’s meet the person first."
Both of them stayed in the office for more than ten minutes before leaving. In the living room, there was not only Ke Kai, but also a man in his early forties.
No need to say, this man was the old neighbor mentioned by Bai Xiangdong.
"Mr. Yan, Mrs. Yan, nice to meet you..."
The moment the man spoke, he effortlessly matched up with his appearance, proving that he should indeed be quite an honest man.
"Uncle Zhang, you won’t mind if I call you that, right? I heard Dong uncle say that you were my mom’s neighbor in the past."
Zhu Qianying instinctively categorized him as the same type as Bai Xiangdong. Although it was her first time meeting this man, his temperament was indeed similar to Bai Xiangdong. Given his restrained demeanor and unflinching gaze, she surmised that he was an upright person.
"No, not at all..." Uncle Zhang made a continuous hand gesture, indicating that he didn’t mind.
Zhu Qianying and Yan sat down on the sofa opposite Uncle Zhang. Zhu Qianying looked Yan in the eye, "I have a few things I’d like to ask Uncle Zhang. Can you and Ke Kai leave us alone for a bit?"
Yan slightly furrowed his brows, his hand gripping hers tightly. It was evident that he was not at ease.
Zhu Qianying took another look at Uncle Zhang and then pointed to the main hall not far from the living room, "How about the two of you sit over there? I’ll try to keep my questioning as concise as possible."
Yan was naturally not at ease, but if Zhu Qianying insisted, he had no choice. Plus, this man surnamed Zhang, he had already sent someone to investigate him yesterday. He was a small boss in the antique market, a man with good relationships and a gentle demeanor. All in all, he seemed harmless.
More importantly, this man had no motive to hurt Zhu Qianying.
With Yan and Ke Kai walking away, Zhu Qianying proceeded to ask Uncle Zhang about some old matters concerning her mother.
These were the matters that happened after Bai Xiangdong left the village, events her mother had always refused to discuss.
Uncle Zhang was very cooperative, revealing nearly everything he knew. Zhu Qianying quickly came to learn a multitude of details she had never heard before. About her mother, about her maternal grandfather and uncle, and some aspects about her mother’s family’s experience in the village after she had followed Zhu Zhizhou.
"Uncle Zhang, thank you for telling me so much. If you get a chance to meet my mother, can you keep our conversation a secret?"
Uncle Zhang nodded, indicating that he understood.
Once Zhu Qianying had gathered the information she wanted to know, she handed over the task of further inquiries to Ke Kai and Yan.
To be fair, Uncle Zhang’s words were consistent with Bai Xiangdong’s, and he couldn’t offer much more information.
He only knew that when Chen Jing’s parents and older brother left, they were forced out by the Zhu family. As for who exactly was responsible, he wasn’t sure.
Yan and Ke Kai asked him a few questions, and he answered truthfully. However, these answers seemed to bear little value on the surface.
Yan and Ke Kai questioned him for about half an hour. Basically, everything that could be asked and everything that could be answered had been covered.
When seeing him off, Ke Kai repeatedly urged Uncle Zhang to notify them if there was any news, no matter how insignificant.
"I feel like the chances are slim..."
For some reason, Zhu Qianying felt a bit low.
Perhaps it was because of what Uncle Zhang had shared, or maybe it was because the clues gathered so far didn’t really amount to much.
"That’s alright, Kai Zi will begin checking the lists of transient personnel throughout the country starting tomorrow. He’ll arrange all other follow-ups as well. There will be news, don’t worry!"
In Yan’s view, unless Chen Jing’s parents and brother had vanished into thin air or had, like Zhu Qianying five years ago, been helped by some influential person to go abroad.
Otherwise, as long as they were still living ordinary lives within the country, finding their whereabouts wouldn’t be too difficult.
"Yes, I know all of this. It’s just that I can’t adjust my thinking at the moment. I’m having a bit of a hard time accepting it."
