Chapter 325: One Thing Cures Another
Chapter 325: Chapter 325: One Thing Cures Another
Though Yan was filled with guilt, he had no choice but to resort to this underhanded tactic to get his son to return home earlier. He didn’t have any other options.
"It has a cold. It wouldn’t move from its dog house this morning and has lost interest in its favorite bone, refusing to eat anything. But baby boy, don’t worry. Daddy and Mommy have already taken it to see the doctor. It needs to be vaccinated tomorrow and the day after!", he said.
Even though he wanted his son to worry, Yan didn’t dare exaggerate Star’s condition. He simply relayed the truth because he also didn’t want the little boy to be upset.
"Did Grandpa Hai give it milk?"
The little boy was very anxious. Unlike the Eldest Young Master Yan, he cared much more about Star. As long as he was staying at the Yan family home, he would often run to the dog house with a can of milk to feed Star.
"Yes, Daddy has already told Grandpa Hai to give Star some liquid food first. Do you want to come back sooner, baby boy?"
Yan’s goal was always the same.
On the other side of the phone, the little boy glanced at his grandpa and grandma and then at his great-grandfather and great-grandmother who were sitting on the loungers with blankets covering their knees.
"I’ll let you know later...", he said before hanging up the phone. He handed the phone to his grandmother, walked between his grandfather and grandmother, placed his hands on the side of the lounger, stood on tiptoes, and first puckered up to plant a kiss on his grandfather’s wrinkled face before turning around to do the same to his grandmother.
"Great-grandpa, great-grandma, my beloved Star is sick. I’m really worried about it. Can I go back tomorrow?"
The little boy had reddened eyes and a frowned look of sadness on his face. Moreover, he was out of breath, making his small chest rise and fall. The elders present couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
Even though everyone knew that using the dog’s illness as an excuse was most likely Yan Han’s trick to coax his son home, the little boy didn’t know about it.
"Baby boy, your daddy is fooling you!", said the grandfather, determined to expose his son’s trickery.
The little boy shook his head, saying, "No, he wouldn’t lie to me..."
Usually, when talking about his father, he would act quite cocky. But now, he had inexplicably placed his trust in Yan.
If Eldest Young Master Yan heard his son trust and defend him like this, he’d probably be moved to tears.
"I thought you didn’t like your daddy? Why are you defending him now?", the grandfather asked, showing no scruples about tarnishing his grandson’s reputation as he wished to have his great-grandson’s company for another couple of days.
"Great-grandpa, Daddy wouldn’t lie to me!", the little boy insisted.
The grandmother, seeing the little boy’s upset and pitiful appearance, couldn’t bear it. So she suggested, "Why not call Ah Hai to ask?"
As soon as the grandmother said this, one of the servants who were specially attending the grandfather immediately dialed a number on the phone.
When the call went through, it was handed over to the grandfather. He asked, "Ah Hai, is the dog... no, monkey, really sick?"
The little boy was unhappy, he pulled at the grandfather’s arm, reminding him indignantly, "Great-grandpa, it’s Star! Not a monkey!"
Whether the dog was called monkey or star, the grandfather didn’t remember. But seeing his precious great-grandson wasn’t happy, the grandfather promptly corrected himself, "Ah...right, it’s Star not the monkey. Is it really sick?"
"Master, Star is indeed sick! It has a fever and hasn’t eaten much the whole day. It mostly slept. Young Master and Ying’er took it to see the doctor in the afternoon and it got an injection. It will have to go to the hospital for another two shots tomorrow and the day after."
Ah Hai was just telling the truth. Little did he know that his own young master was using this as a chip to get the little boy back home early. If he had known, he would probably have exaggerated Star’s illness a little more, because he also missed the little young master!
Over the past decade or so, besides the half month when Young Master got married, the house had been the liveliest when the little young master came to visit.
With the little boy being away for so many days, Ah Hai also wasn’t used to it.
He even suspected that Star fell ill because it missed its young master.
Without any rebuttal, the grandfather hung up the phone and handed it back to the servant behind him.
"Great-grandpa, how is Star? Is it okay?"
The little boy became even more anxious. He knew that Grandfather Hai would be more aware of Star’s condition than his father.
The grandfather hesitated for a moment but couldn’t bring himself to lie. He nodded at the little boy.
"Yes, you’re right. Monkey...no, Star is indeed sick. It caught a cold and refused to eat. But your Daddy and Mommy have already taken it to the doctor and it got an injection. It’s much better now. Baby boy, you don’t need to worry," reassured the grandfather.
However, his attempts at consolation were rather futile. The little boy stretched up on his tiptoes and rubbed his small face against the grandfather’s aged face.
"Great-grandpa, I’m really worried about Star. Can I go home to see it tomorrow?" pleaded the little boy in a tender voice while rubbing against the grandfather’s cheek. Even the usually indifferent grandfather couldn’t bring himself to refuse his request.
However, the thought brought much indignation. How had he, the esteemed Master Yan, come to a day where he had been defeated by a dog named Monkey (or was it Star?) in front of his great-grandson?
Feeling both annoyed and angry, the grandfather eventually waved his hand, "Alright, fine. You all can go home tomorrow, but you must come back two days before Spring Festival!"
As the witness of his father’s defeat at the hands of his grandson, Yan Bo quickly interjected. "Dad, we promise we’ll return two days before."
Having secured his son’s promise, the grandfather’s fury calmed down somewhat. He patted the little boy’s head, "Baby boy, remember to call great-grandpa and great-grandma every day when you’re back home."
The little boy, satisfied with the permission, immediately kissed the grandfather again. "Thank you, great-grandpa, thank you, great-grandma! I promise to call every day, if not, then I’m a puppy!"
At his words, everyone burst out laughing again. Yan Bo asked, "Star is a puppy. So if baby boy doesn’t call, does that mean you’re Star?"
On hearing his grandfather’s words, the little boy burst out laughing, "I’m not Star, I’m a monkey! Mommy said so!"
Indeed, when the little boy was acting naughty beyond measure, Zhu Qianying would call him a little monkey!
Yan Bo then instructed someone to book a flight to L City for the next morning before going to make a call to Yan Han. He informed Yan Han that they would be returning home the next day.
Yan Han, who had been waiting for his son’s decision, was satisfied with hearing this news. After finding out the reason why the grandfather relented, and after hearing his father recount the incident in detail, Yan Han couldn’t help but feel moved.
"They say for every action, there’s a reaction. Indeed, they weren’t wrong!"
