Chapter 292: The Abnormal Man in Love
Chapter 292: Chapter 292: The Abnormal Man in Love
Zhu Qianying’s devotion was understandable to Yan Han, and therefore, he wasn’t in a position to reproach her. After their phone conversation, however, he felt even more touched by how considerate and tender their son was.
"Okay, baby boy, keep your great-grandfather and great-grandmother company. In a few days, Daddy will come pick you up."
The little boy acknowledged him with a sound, then said "Bye-bye" to Yan Han, hung up the phone, and took the milk given to him by his grandfather. His small hands bandaged like bear paws carefully held the baby bottle as he joyfully sipped the milk.
Yan Bo and his wife breathed a sigh of relief seeing that he still had a good appetite and enjoyed eating.
"Baby boy, let grandpa check your leg."
Yan Bo, remembering Doctor Xiao Xu’s advice, had checked the little boy’s leg earlier when he went to sleep. Now, he wanted to check it again to fully put his mind at ease.
Baby boy responded vaguely, obediently resting his small leg on Yan Bo’s thigh. Over the course of their time spent together, grandpa and grandson had developed a good rapport. It seemed the little boy trusted Yan Bo more than his father Yan Han.
Yan Bo carefully rolled up Baby Boy’s trouser leg, following Doctor Xiao Xu’s instructions. He asked if it hurt while he was massaging the leg. The little boy shook his head continually while drinking his milk and puffing out his cheeks.
Once Yan Bo finished massaging the leg and confirmed that it was still pristine white with no signs of swelling or redness, he finally felt at ease.
Meanwhile, Yan Han, hanging up the phone call, realized it had been a few days since he’d last seen Zhu Qianying. He dialed her number, hoping to invite her for dinner. Of course, if she wasn’t bothered by it, he wouldn’t mind dining at her place.
Because both his mother-in-law, Chen Jing, and Zhu Qianying’s cooking were leagues better than any upscale restaurant.
Yan Han knew there was a problem with his preference.
But he did not want to change or adjust it. He hoped to enjoy this culinary versatility all his life without any need for alterations.
Especially, he remembered Zhu Qianying promising him a homemade beef tomato noodle meal.
However, when he called, he was met with an automated voice saying, "The number you have dialed is turned off."
Not giving up, Yan Han dialed the number for Ying Jewelry.
He received a response saying, "Ying Zi? She has not been in the store for the last few days!"
Panic suddenly set in for Yan Han. Without even bothering to tidy up, he grabbed his bag, ran next door to Qin Xiu’s place and blurted, "Qin Xiu, can I borrow your car tonight?"
Without waiting for Qin Xiu’s response, he tossed his own car keys on the table, picked up Qin Xiu’s, and took off.
Qin Xiu was perplexed by his friend’s recent behavior. Being wildly irrational in love seemed to be normal whilst the cold and capricious Yan Han of five years ago was now unrecognizable.
No wonder Zhu Qianying struggled with him at that time.
...
Yan Han, driving Qin Xiu’s car at top speed, would likely end up with a pile of speeding tickets soon.
Though it was before the end of the workday and traffic was not very heavy, Yan Han sped straight into the community where Zhu Qianying resided, reaching there in less than forty minutes.
Befuddled by the unfamiliar car, the security guard approached to inquire. Yan Han wound down the window, offered a wave, and the guard acknowledged him with a nod before hurrying back into his office to open the gate.
It seems a memorable handsome face like Yan Han’s comes with certain advantages.
Yan Han parked the car downstairs and sprinted to the elevator. Once inside, he kept an impatient eye on the rapidly increasing floor numbers, feeling that it was taking too long.
Even he wasn’t sure why he was in such a hurry.
All he knew was that when he found her phone off and she wasn’t at her usual places, he felt his mind and body separate, akin to being in a high-speed centrifuge.
Perhaps her departure five years ago had cast such a long shadow in his heart that the mere knowledge of her turned-off phone left him panic-stricken and lost.
"Ding Dong Ding Dong..." Yan Han, slightly out of breath, was standing in front of Zhu Qianying’s house.
Fortunately, he didn’t have to wait too long. Around ten seconds later, the door unlatched from inside, but instead of Zhu Qianying, it was her mother, Chen Jing, who greeted him.
"Yan Han?"
She seemed surprised to see him.
Seeing as their son was with Yan Bo and his wife in the capital, Chen Jing was puzzled as to why he would show up.
The peaceful days of the last few days had made Chen Jing believe that her daughter had finally told Yan Han the truth. Hence, Yan Han’s unexpected visit left her feeling somewhat apprehensive.
"Mom, where is Ying’er?"
The urgency in Yan Han’s demeanor didn’t leave room for any further questions from Chen Jing, who promptly opened the door and pointed towards her daughter’s room.
"She’s busy!"
Upon hearing this, Yan Han heaved a sigh of relief.
Chen Jing, left bewildered by his series of actions, didn’t ask any further questions. She just made way for him to come in and then went to pour him a cup of tea.
"Yan Han, do you need something from Ying’er? Should I call her?"
When Zhu Qianying got busy, she sometimes worked for one or two days straight without taking a break. Even though Chen Jing, as her mother, felt bad for her, she didn’t disturb her lightly.
"No need, let her finish her work. I will speak with her when she’s done."
And so, he waited until past seven.
Of course, he stayed for dinner.
It was not until mealtime that Chen Jing knocked on Zhu Qianying’s bedroom door, "Ying’er, it’s time to eat!"
Zhu Qianying, dressed in house clothes, opened the door and was surprised to find Yan Han there.
"How did you end up here?"
Yan Han was also taken aback by her look, resembling a national treasure, "Zhu Qianying, how long have you been without sleep?"
Ever since she came back from drinking with Xing Bailun the previous night, Zhu Qianying had been continuously working. Besides having breakfast and lunch at her mother’s behest and calling the little boy in the afternoon, she had been preoccupied relentlessly.
"Not long..."
Upon hearing her own raspy voice, Zhu Qianying realized her statement lacked credibility. Consequently, she added with a tug at the corner of her mouth, "It’s probably...been one night..."
After learning that Zhu Qianying was working diligently in her room, Yan Han relaxed and began attending to his own work in the living room.
But seeing her now, almost unconscious with exhaustion, the sigh of relief he had just released was swiftly returning, stuck in his throat, causing him great discomfort.
"Really, do you need to push yourself so hard?"
Yan Han was a bit angry. Firstly, at Zhu Qianying for not taking adequate care of herself and treating her body so indifferently.
Secondly, at himself for being unable to provide for her, leaving her obliged to work this hard!
