Chapter 262 Annoying Money, Oh Money
Chapter 262: Chapter 262 Annoying Money, Oh Money
Zhu Qianying, afraid that Yan Han would continue to be stubborn about the money issue, drained her cup of milk in one gulp and stood up.
"Yan Han, I’m off to bed first. Don’t stay up too late!"
As Eldest Young Master Yan stared at Zhu Qianying quickly disappearing into the kitchen, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was running away.
Back in her bedroom, Zhu Qianying didn’t go straight to bed. Instead, she logged into her online banking account to calculate her current financial status and recent expenses. If worst comes to worst, she’d ask Xiao Yu to lend her some money to buy the car and save Eldest Young Master Yan from pestering her incessantly.
Since moving back to her home country, her expenses had skyrocketed. Buying a house took a huge chunk of her savings, followed by furnishing it. She had initially assumed that the furniture wouldn’t cost much but was taken aback to find she’d spent hundreds of thousands in total.
Moreover, her income had decreased considerably since moving back from M country. While living there, high-profile clientele would regularly commission her to design custom jewelry pieces which was quite lucrative, but such opportunities had dwindled since her return.
Add to that her mother’s unemployment, all the daily living costs for the three of them now rested solely on her. Despite all these being trivial expenses in isolation, when accumulated, they were nothing trivial.
It seemed that she had to think about taking on a few more assignments from fashion magazines.
Or maybe, when Cheng Ye visited again, she’d mingle with the high society to meet some wealthy young ladies and increase her visibility. Hopefully, she could pick up a couple of private orders to barely sustain her life.
Looking at her current expenses, she wouldn’t necessarily be in dire straits. The main problem was the two anniversary rings she had designed and customized for Yan Han’s mother-in-law were quite expensive and she didn’t intend to charge for them.
As for the gift promised to Eldest Young Master Yan, it was also in the design process and the raw materials alone would not come cheap.
By the time Zhu Qianying had sorted out the details of her bank account and finally lay down in bed, the words that kept spinning in her head were still those distressing words.
Money, oh money...
The next morning, Zhu Qianying was awakened by the sound of knocking at the door.
She groggily got up to open it and was immediately hugged by a small figure.
"Mommy, why is he here?"
The little boy held her waist, pointing back at Eldest Young Master Yan who was sitting in the living room sipping tea.
Zhu Qianying rubbed her eyes and then rubbed her son’s head.
"Your daddy missed you, so he came to see you." The little boy’s tone was full of resentment.
Why did this little guy still hold such a grudge against his father?
Eldest Young Master Yan had been doing quite well, particularly in her eyes as a mother.
Seeing that her son still appeared resistant, Zhu Qianying squatted down to kiss his little face.
"Baby boy, Daddy has been really busy traveling for work. He just flew back from out of town yesterday and came straight to see you without even going home first. You’re being a bit too harsh on him, aren’t you?"
When talking about Yan Han in front of their son, Zhu Qianying never intended to belittle him.
She was aware that their son probably found Yan Han to be an unfit father, hence his lingering resentment towards him.
But the truth was that it was she, as a mom, who had to deprive him of his right to his father’s love since early childhood. In this regard, Yan Han was indeed innocent.
Yet she couldn’t disclose her past with Yan Han to their son.
Firstly, their son was too young to understand, even if she explained it to him.
Secondly, she didn’t intend to ever let her son know that she and Yan Han got together because of some transaction. She didn’t want her past to impact his view on marriage in the future.
After all, she herself was the biggest victim of her parents’ marriage.
With his head buried in Zhu Qianying’s neck, the little boy mumbled unwillingly to admit his feelings.
Meanwhile, seeing Zhu Qianying schooling their son, Yan Han walked over and squatted down, mimicking Zhu Qianying’s posture.
"Baby boy, do you know how old Daddy is?"
The little boy still refused to turn his face toward him, merely responding with a shake of his head to show his disinterest.
"Daddy is thirty-three years old, and you, baby boy, are only five years old! Daddy may not be able to guess what you’re thinking, but he really wants to know. So, if there’s something you want or something that upsets you, feel free to tell Daddy. Or if there’s something Daddy isn’t doing well, feel free to tell him directly and Daddy will improve, okay?"
Eldest Young Master Yan would have never thought there would come a day where he would have to humble himself before a brat who’s not even five years old.
But after hearing Zhu Qianying’s words, he acted and spoke without a second thought.
Yet even after he made that promise, the little fellow still turned his back on him, even clinging more tightly to Zhu Qianying’s neck.
Zhu Qianying knew her son was being stubborn and wouldn’t snap out of it for a while.
She sent Yan Han an encouraging look and then held her son to help convince him.
"Baby boy, Daddy loves you just as much as Mommy does, do you know that?"
Fearing that saying too much would make the little boy resentful, Zhu Qianying didn’t nag any more. Pushing him away slightly, she gave him a kiss on the face.
"Baby boy, you go have breakfast with Daddy first. Mommy will join you once she’s done washing up."
With her mother unemployed, she had been getting up early every morning to prepare breakfast. It was surely ready by this time.
As Yan Han lifted their son and walked away, Zhu Qianying finished washing up and headed for the dining room. She was greeted by the sight of Yan Han spreading cream cheese on their son’s bread.
Yan Han was whispering something to their son, who was sullenly sipping on his milk.
"Mommy, sit here!" The moment the little boy saw Zhu Qianying, his face lit up with joy.
Zhu Qianying walked over and took a seat next to him.
"Eating bread this morning? Where’s Grandma?"
It was strange, as the breakfast table usually had everything — porridge, noodles, snacks. Today’s simple breakfast was a first since they’d moved into the new house.
"Grandma just left. She said she has a job interview." Yan Han replied on behalf of their son.
"A job interview?"
Had her mother found a job? Why didn’t she know?
"Yes, that’s what she said. It’s at the new hotel that just opened nearby."
Yan Han wasn’t too clear on the details either. He was just relaying what her mother had said.
Seeing that she couldn’t get any more information out of Yan Han, Zhu Qianying pulled out her phone to dial a number.
Yan Han stretched his hand over to stop her, "She might be in the interview right now. Just patiently wait for her news."
Zhu Qianying stared at Yan Han, "Did you arrange this?"
Yan Han denied it immediately, "How could I? Didn’t I just get back?"
