Chapter 239: Are We Back to the Way We Were?
Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Are We Back to the Way We Were?
The first person Cheng Ye saw was Zhu Qianying.
A natural smile appeared on his face.
"Ying Zi..." Before Cheng Ye could finish his sentence, he saw Yan Han behind Zhu Qianying and his smile froze on his lips.
"Mr. Cheng, I came to see where my wife works, that should be okay, right?"
At this moment, Yan Han was acting very gentlemanly and polite, in stark contrast to the arrogant Yan Han at the airport who made Cheng Ye want to strangle him.
As the saying goes, you can’t slap a smiling face. No matter how much Cheng Ye wanted to refuse, he couldn’t do it in front of so many people.
"Suit yourself..." Cheng Ye managed to suppress his annoyance, he coldly said this before slamming the door shut.
Yan Han smirked and shrugged at Zhu Qianying, looking quite pleased with himself.
Zhu Qianying didn’t know what to make of Yan Han anymore. All she could think was to show him around her office and get him to leave as quickly as possible!
She tugged Yan Han a few steps forward, but as soon as she heard the door open, she heard Cheng Ye’s voice from behind.
"Ying Zi, we’re having a meeting in five minutes. Everyone’s waiting for you!"
"Okay!"
Zhu Qianying managed to give Yan Han a quick tour of the headquarters, which more or less served her purpose. Now that Cheng Ye had given her an excuse to get rid of Yan Han, she couldn’t help but inwardly celebrate. Thank God for his timely interruption!
Zhu Qianying entered her office first, then opened the door wide and gestured for Yan Han to come in.
Yan Han stepped in like a dignitary inspecting his territory, looking this way and that before declaring, "So small!"
Zhu Qianying didn’t bother to argue with him, "Sir Yan, now that you’ve seen my workspace, can you take your leave?"
Zhu Qianying thought that regardless of whether he came to assert his authority, to show off, to demonstrate his power, or to make a public display, he had achieved all his goals. He had no reason to stay any longer!
However, Yan Han wasn’t an ordinary person and his actions couldn’t be predicted by ordinary standards.
"I know, you’re having a meeting! Go on, I’ll stay for a bit!"
With a wave of his hand, Yan Han dismissed Zhu Qianying, indicating that he could handle himself just fine.
His attitude was reminiscent of how their son would sometimes get annoyed at having adult supervision and would impatiently shoo them off his territory.
Although Zhu Qianying was worried, she looked at the time and saw that she only had two minutes left until Cheng Ye’s meeting. She didn’t have time to argue with him anymore, so she quickly gathered her things, grabbed a bundle of files and her laptop, and left in a hurry.
She thought that he would leave on his own after a few minutes.
But Yan Han actually went behind her desk as soon as Zhu Qianying left, pulled out a chair and sat down. He took out his own laptop and began dealing with his own business just like he was in his own territory.
Zhu Qianying rushed to the conference room with her files and laptop. But when she stepped inside she saw that only Cheng Ye was present and there were no signs of the other senior executives.
Their eyes met, and Zhu Qianying immediately understood that there wasn’t really a meeting!
Even though she knew the truth, Zhu Qianying decided to play dumb and looked around the room, "Just the two of us?"
Cheng Ye nodded and gestured to the seat beside him, "Yes, just the two of us!"
Zhu Qianying hesitated for a moment before finally taking the seat.
"Here’s for you!"
Cheng Ye pushed a drink toward Zhu Qianying. She looked down and saw that it was her favorite Matcha Latte from a particular café.
"Thanks!"
Zhu Qianying said softly as she placed her files on the table.
Next, she took out her laptop and turned it on.
Even though she clearly knew Cheng Ye wasn’t here to discuss business with her, she still put up a facade of professionalism.
She also knew exactly what Cheng Ye wanted to talk to her about next.
Actually, when she first arrived in M country, Cheng Ye did have a girlfriend, who was rumored to be his childhood sweetheart. But then, for some unknown reason, the childhood sweethearts split up.
At that time, her son hadn’t been born yet.
As the employee, who he always referred to as his ’daughter’, she was pulled into his office on several occasions to drink with him. Of course, she drank juice while he drowned his sorrows in alcohol, and it all happened in his office.
Afterward, when her son was born, her boss took on a lot of responsibilities.
He took her to the hospital for delivery, helped Chen Jing take care of Zhu Qianying and her newborn son. And later on, he often accompanied them for weekend outings. To outsiders, it looked like they were a happy family of four.
Later, when her son was a little over a year old, he told her that he was willing to be her son’s father, and that he was willing to take care of her and her son for the rest of his life. But she immediately rejected him without giving it much thought.
In her heart, she knew that Cheng Ye was an incredible man.
He was responsible, patient with children, and very gentle and attentive to her.
Still, no matter how much he moved her, she just couldn’t see him as anything more than a friend.
Thus she often ridiculed herself, considering herself a terrible person, a person without a heart.
No matter how good someone was to her, she couldn’t reciprocate their feelings.
Xing Bailun was like that, and so was Cheng Ye.
In regards to other men who had a bit of fondness for her, in order to prevent causing them pain, she kept her distance as soon as she saw a hint of feelings on their part. Having someone like Cheng Ye around was already enough, she didn’t want to feel guilt towards any other man.
In truth, during these years, she had considered agreeing to Cheng Ye out of resignation.
But when she thought about it, replying with falsehood in the face of someone else’s passionate feelings was irresponsible to herself and at the same time, an insult and hurt to Cheng Ye.
"Ying Zi, you and Yan Han..."
Cheng Ye, who had been quietly watching her arranging her files and turning on her laptop, finally spoke.
"Hmm?!" Zhu Qianying looked up at him, thinking to herself, ’Here it comes!’
"Have you and him... made up?"
Without giving it any thought, Zhu Qianying nodded, "Yes, when I went back, he explained all the previous misunderstandings to me, and then we let bygones be bygones and made up!"
Zhu Qianying spoke with great grandeur, even though the truth was that she and Yan Han had never been on good terms to begin with. So, how could they ’make up’?
In fact, up to now, Zhu Qianying still didn’t quite understand Yan Han’s real intention behind persisting in this marriage.
And his purpose for coming to M country this time seemed increasingly unclear.
