Chapter 226: Are You Really In Her Heart?

Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Are You Really In Her Heart?

Yan Han was not a man who would willingly initiate conversations which lighten the mood. During meals, it was mainly the mother and daughter and the son who spoke, while he quietly ate his food.

Occasionally, he would ask about his son’s preferences, picking out fish bones from dishes for him, and despite his son’s indifference, he still did it with enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, his silence unintentionally made Zhu Qianying and her family feel more comfortable.

The three women chatted about some small details related to their new home while eating.

Yan Han did not enter the conversation at first, it was only when Zhu Qianying mentioned wanting to change some bathroom fixtures, did he chime in.

"The company has a dedicated renovation team. I’ll have Qin Xiu contact you. Whatever changes or refurbishments you want, tell him."

Zhu Qianying replied, "The property management also has professionals responsible for such projects. I can contact them when the time comes."

Zhu Qianying drew a clear line, Yan Han had a responsibility to their son, but her and her mother’s affairs had little to do with him.

Indeed, asking him for a favor was no big deal.

But Yan Han’s abilities were vast, to him everything regarding Zhu Qianying was but a triviality.

Such minor matters, one today, another tomorrow, she feared that she would consciously or unconsciously become accustomed to his help; ultimately, his assistance would be taken for granted.

A gloominess passed through Yan Han’s eyes, but he didn’t insist on anything, only added, "Okay, if there’s anything you can’t handle, come find me."

Despite his words, he knew very well that even if she encountered something that she couldn’t handle, she wouldn’t turn to him for help.

She would seek help from the Ji family, from Xing Bailun, from Cheng Ye, but never from him.

After the meal, Yan Han settled the bill and escorted the mother, daughter and son to their luxury suite on the top floor.

He probably knew that he was not welcomed by the same four, so after sending them in, he only stayed for a few minutes before excusing himself.

Zhu Qianying instructed their son to see him out, and the boy reluctantly let him take his hand to the door.

"Be a good boy and stay with your grandmother and aunt. Daddy will come to pick you up in a few days."

The son replied with a simple "oh", Yan Han leaned in to kiss his face, then got up, opened the door, and left.

...

The next day at noon, Yan Han had just finished eating lunch and was preparing to go to the resting room for a break. He received a notice from the front desk that Miss Yi was looking for him.

Yan Han slightly furrowed his brow, ultimately, he allowed the front desk lady to let her in.

Thinking about it now, it seems like he and Yi Wei haven’t seen each other in a few days. The last time they met was when they had a small argument at home.

Truth be told, he didn’t really want to see her at the moment.

"Brother Han!"

The Yi Wei that entered the room was dressed lightly and comfortably, the discomposure of that day was nowhere to be seen.

"On a break?" Yan Han propped himself up on the table and accompanied her to the reception room.

A few years ago, after Yi Wei had recovered, she stayed and took a job in the Yi family’s company.

"No, I was handling some things nearby and came to see you," said Yi Wei, passing him a box.

"I remember you used to like the snacks from this bakery, I passed by and bought some. You can have them for afternoon tea."

Yan Han accepted it, put it on the coffee table, and gestured for her to sit down.

"I came by a few days ago, too. Qin Xiu said you were away on a business trip. Why didn’t you mention it?"

When it was just the two of them, Yi Wei seemed to be more casual, and her words could easily be misunderstood.

But Yan Han didn’t appreciate her casualness.

"Wei, since when did I need to report my affairs to you?"

Yi Wei paused for a moment, then revealed a hint of a smile, "I was simply worried about you. You really are unromantic."

Yan Han didn’t reply, instead, he picked up his cup and took a sip of tea.

A while later, Yi Wei, who had been watching him intently, continued, "In fact, where did you go on your business trip? I thought you would want to spend more time at home with your son!"

Yan Han glanced at her, "Wei, what do you want to know?"

Yi Wei was taken aback, then chuckled a few times, "Brother Han, don’t misunderstand. I was just showing concern for you."

Yan Han slightly furrowed his brow, "I don’t need it! What you should think about is that it’s about time for your checkup. Don’t forget about it."

After the kidnapping five years ago, Yi Wei didn’t recover until half a year later, her residual after-effects were still quite serious. Initially, the doctor asked her to have checkups every three months, and the last check-up was one year ago.

"Won’t you accompany me?" She looked surprised as Yan Han had always accompanied her to her checkups every time she requested it.

Yan Han shook his head, "I don’t have time. You should ask your parents to arrange for someone else to accompany you."

In the past, although Yan Han found it tiresome, he could hardly bear to reject her, it was, after all, just a trip to the Capital City that would take up half a day.

But now, Zhu Qianying was back and subconsciously, he feared Zhu Qianying might misunderstand.

After all, Zhu Qianying had left five years ago because of Yi Wei.

To say there weren’t any lingering qualms would obviously be a lie.

"Brother Han, are you saying that you don’t even have one day’s time to spare?" Yi Wei seemed not too pleased.

But her displeasure, compared to Zhu Qianying’s potential misunderstanding, seemed trivial.

"Wei, we should meet less in the future!"

At least, before he and Zhu Qianying reconciled their past differences, it would be best to keep such meetings to a minimum.

Anyway, that was what Yan Han thought.

"Why?" Yi Wei looked incredulous.

"Zhu Qianying has returned!"

Yan Han seemed to say it indifferently, but Yi Wei’s face suddenly turned very unsightly.

She took a deep breath, and her voice became noticeably louder, "So you won’t see me now that she’s back?"

Looking straight at her, Yan Han replied, "Not no meetings, just fewer meetings!"

Actually, what he wanted to say was not seeing her at all.

But considering their many years of friendship, he didn’t put it so bluntly.

"Yan Han, are you crazy?" Yi Wei raised her voice again.

Yan Han looked at her strangely, "Am I crazy?"

"Yes! You are crazy! You and her, you got married after knowing each other for only a few months. Just a few days after the wedding, she left you to study abroad. Do you really think she cares about you? She’s only after your money, don’t you know that?"

Yi Wei had heard rumors about Yan Han and Zhu Qianying’s marriage after she recovered.

If Yan Han had heard these words five years ago, he probably wouldn’t have reacted. After all, their arrangement was well known throughout the city. But now, hearing Yi Wei criticize Zhu Qianying, he felt anger rising within him.

"Yi Wei, that’s my business and it’s none of your concern!" Yan Han said coldly, his voice sharp as a blade.

"None of my concern? You want to see less of me because of a woman who’s after your money? Our twenty years of friendship is not worth as much as a money-seeking woman?"
