Chapter 217: It’s Okay As Long As the Heart is There

Chapter 217: Chapter 217: It’s Okay As Long As the Heart is There

As soon as she saw her son, all of Zhu Qianying’s attention was directed towards the little boy.

She held her son, her gaze casually sweeping over the living room and she couldn’t help but feel a little surprised.

The furnishings here were entirely different from what they were five years ago.

The Yan family’s old lady seemed to pick up on her surprise and immediately explained, "These pieces of furniture were all bought some days ago with our baby boy. Isn’t it quite nice?

Zhu Qianying responded with a smile and a nod, "Yes, they’re very nice."

If she didn’t know beforehand that this was the Yan family’s home, she would probably think that she had stepped either into a kindergarten, or a children’s playroom.

She sighed inwardly for Yan Han, he sure had it tough! For a man so meticulous in his demand for perfection to tolerate turning his living room into a place full of fairy tale atmosphere.

All the furniture had been carefully replaced with rounded ones, and the sofas and chairs had been entirely substituted with soft and cute-styled ones. Randomly scattered on top of the sofa were some dolls and various model toys belonging to the little boy.

For Yan Bo, a man with a severe obsession with cleanliness, this was simply a form of gruesome torture. But strangely enough, he hadn’t gone mad from it yet.

Several walls were painted in different colors. One wall was themed around a starry sky, another wall theme was a field of fresh flowers, and another was themed on the ocean.

Near the rocking chair, the wall retained its original color. However, closer to the floor, there were numerous paintings littered with colorful oils, and it was obvious at first glance that all of them were the masterpiece of their little boy. There were flowers, grass, bugs, birds, puppies, and kittens in the paintings, filled with childlike innocence and vibrancy.

Then, she spotted in one of those random squiggles a fantastical creature with the nose of an elephant, horns like a bull, the body of a horse, and the feet of a pig. Being his mother, she knew about her son’s drawing skills, so she burst into laughter at the sight of that creature.

"Baby, did you draw this fantasy creature?"

The little boy didn’t make a sound, but lifted up his finger and pointed towards Yan Han.

Zhu Qianying stifled a cough. Apart from being surprised at his "artistic ability", she also marveled that Yan Han, with his severe cleanliness obsession, had actually participated.

She thought that to a layman, the act of drawing would seem a messy one.

"Mommy, come sit on the rocking chair with me!"

In the presence of Yan Han, the little boy would usually refer to himself as "I" or even put on airs and say "Young Master". However, in front of Zhu Qianying, he would call himself "little boy"—this clearly indicated that Yan Han, as the father, and Zhu Qianying, as the mother, were not on the same level.

"Okay!"

Yan’s old mother wanted to follow her daughter-in-law, because she missed the latter.

Five years, just looking like this wasn’t enough.

Just as she was about to step in, someone pulled on her arm. Turning her head, who else but her son?

"What’s the matter?" Yan’s old mother shot her son an inquiring look.

Yan Han winked at her and jerked his chin towards the entrance hall.

Getting the hint, the old mother followed her son out of the entrance hall.

"Mom, how could you just concede to her like that!"

The oldest son of the Yan family grumbled at his mother.

Yan’s old mother gave him a stern glare. "Or what else could I do? Scold her? Tell her if she doesn’t call me ’mom’, I won’t let her enter the house?"

The eldest son of the Yan family was taken aback for a second, before pressing again, "You need to assert yourself at least. You’re her mother!"

Yan’s old mother felt a fond urge to smack her son. Couldn’t her foolish son understand, even now?

"Little Han, do your brains only work properly for business matters, and for everything else it just stops functioning? Before you coax her back here, do you think she would call me ’mom’?"

But Yan Han’s logic didn’t quite match that.

In his view, it was the same principle as him being her husband as long as they didn’t divorce.

"But you shouldn’t have just conceded like that. You are clearly her mother, how could you have become her aunt?"

Yan’s old mother realized full well why. "Son, instead of obsessing about this naming issue, you better think about how to win her back. Names aren’t important; the heart is!"

The words of Yan’s old mother hit the nail on the head.

"Mom, I get it."

Yan Han was really annoyed at his mother’s words.

How could he not understand what she said?

But the problem was that now, not to mention her heart, he couldn’t even keep her in presence.

He would bet that if it weren’t for today—if it weren’t for the despicable act of using his son to blackmail her—she definitely wouldn’t come home with him!

Unless, unless he knocked her out and forced her back.

And he had no idea that using his son as bait to blackmail her was actually worse than knocking her out and forcing her back home with him.

Yan’s old mother wanted to rebuke her son further, but when she saw his rare troubled expression, she swallowed down her scolding words.

She really didn’t know who her son took after in his disposition.

If he took after his father, then he probably wouldn’t have unknowingly hurt Zhu Qianying so badly.

So maybe, he was more like her.

When she was young, she was also arrogant and vain. If it hadn’t been for Yan Bo’s tolerance and compromises, the two of them probably wouldn’t have stuck together for over ten years and ended up together.

But back then, both she and Yan Bo were mutually attracted to each other.

As for her son and Zhu Qianying, even with her experienced perspective, she was still uncertain—it truly remained to be seen!

Not to mention Zhu Qianying, she couldn’t even be one hundred percent sure about the nature of her son’s feelings for Zhu Qianying.

Was it love? Or, was it just a tyrannical desire to possess and obsessive tendencies?

Therefore, she didn’t dare give her son any advice until she understood the situation more clearly.

All she could do, was try not to be a hindrance to her son.

"Son, wise up. I can’t help you with matters of feelings!"

Yan’s old mother was seventy-three years old, and had naturally seen more than her son.

But feelings had nothing to do with life experiences.

It had more to do with the heart!

Her son’s heart was in his body thus, only he could take his time to explore and experience it.

The mother and son returned to the house to find that on the rocking chair, the little boy was whispering something onto Zhu Qianying’s chest.

During the time Yan’s old mother and son were away, Zhu Qianying and her son had a conversation.

However, the conversation was mostly a one-sided briefing by the little boy.

"Mommy, that lady does not live here..."

The lady, that the little boy referred to, was undoubtedly Yi Wei.

"Baby, that’s your Daddy’s business. Don’t say random things!" Zhu Qianying didn’t want to know about Yan Han’s affairs with Yi Wei.

When the little boy was at the winter camp a few days ago, he never mentioned Yi Wei. But now, he did.

Perhaps because she and Yan Han returned to this house together, it led the little boy to misunderstand something?
