Chapter 179: Being a Father, Being a Husband
Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Being a Father, Being a Husband
The little boy took a bath, obediently got a book out of his suitcase on his own and lay on Yan Han’s big bed to read. By the time Yan Han came out from his bath, the little boy had already drifted off to sleep on top of the quilt, still laying flat on his stomach, just as he was in the afternoon.
Yan Han thought that the little boy’s sleeping position was too open. His lips, however, curled up slightly. Yan Han climbed into bed and leaned over to pick up the little boy in an attempt to tuck him into the quilt.
It seemed better to let the little boy sleep with him for a while because otherwise, always sleeping on top of the quilt at night, he could easily catch a cold.
"Mmm... mommy..." being held by Yan Han, the little boy half-awake half-asleep seemed to mistake him for Zhu Qianying. The little boy tried hard to burrow deeper into his embrace, "Mommy ... baby boy is still sleeping..."
Yan Han narrowed his eyes slightly. Zhu Qianying called this little guy baby boy?
"Baby boy, be good, get back under the quilt, otherwise, you’ll catch a cold!"
"Mmm..." murmured the half-asleep little boy. When Yan Han put him under the quilt, the little boy suddenly raised his head and, with eyes closed, planted a peck on Yan Han’s chin.
"Mommy... good night..."
Yan Han was not angry at all being mistaken and gender-swapped by his son. Because, for no reason at all, he had received a sweet kiss from his son!
Yan Han, since seeing the little boy today, had been treated with hostility by the little boy all along. Now gaining a peck from him, although a little mis-attributed, and as if stolen, was secretly delighted nonetheless.
Leaning down, he returned a kiss on the little boy’s lips, "Baby, goodnight!"
While tucking in a corner of the quilt for his son, Yan Han suddenly had a strange thought. The little boy had fallen asleep on the quilt just now, he wouldn’t have been waiting for him, would he?
In retrospect, it was a possibility.
After all, for the little boy, even though this was his home, it must have felt strange and terrifyingly lonely to him on his first return home in this huge bedroom. Moreover, although he and Yan Han were indeed of close blood relationship(being his father), in terms of emotional connection, he was essentially a stranger who he had only known for a few hours.
It would be normal for a child just over four years old to put on a brave face during the day, but at night, it would not be surprising for them to feel scared and insecure.
Yan Han silently criticized himself for his carelessness. How could he not have thought about these details earlier?
Obviously, as a husband, he was indifferent and failed, and now as a father, he was equally unqualified.
Yan Han, who had originally planned to take care of some work affairs when his son fell asleep, felt incredibly guilty now. Looking at the sweet sleeping face of his son, it felt like his feet were rooted to the ground and he couldn’t move.
He decisively decided not to work late tonight and stay here to accompany his son, lest he wake up and get scared when he doesn’t see anyone around.
Yan Han’s life has always been very regimented. Generally speaking, he goes to bed around one o’clock in the morning.
It was only about nine o’clock right now, and Yan Han, who was lying in bed, was naturally wide awake. In addition, this was the first time he and his son had shared a bed. Except for the excitement, his mood was also filled with many complex emotions and questions waiting to be answered.
This included all sorts of things between him and Zhu Qianying, the reason why this little guy suddenly returned, and whether that man in his thirties, as the little boy said, really had deep affection for Zhu Qianying?
These questions were enough to keep Yan Han log awake while lying in bed.
However, these concerns seemed to become unsolvable mysteries at the moment. Like so many times before, he thought it over and over again, but in the end, they all went into the same dead-end.
Without any definite answers, he decided not to think about it anymore. Since Zhu Qianying had sent their son back, he, at the moment, should think about how to get along peacefully with the little boy.
Continuing to confront each other with drawn swords between the two is definitely not an ideal solution.
Now, at thirty-three, he had experienced much more than any man his age. What kind of big waves hadn’t he weathered?
But the only thing he lacked was experience as a father!
Soon, he found out that surprisingly, he had a natural talent for being a mother.
Because he hadn’t been lying down for long when he realized he had turned over to check on the little boy several times. Not because the boy had a handsome face just like his own, but because he was worried that the boy would kick off his quilt and caught a cold as a result.
After repeatedly turning around to check, he simply leaned over to face the little boy and watched over him with usually sharp eyes, now incredibly gentle, studying the little face lit by the dim night lamp.
Then he discovered that the little boy, seemingly sleeping very deeply with mouth slightly open and wings of his nostrils fluttering, would occasionally chew, or wrinkle his nose and scratch his butt and so forth.
So, kids had so many small movements and sounds when they sleep?
Yan Han, as if he had discovered a new world, began to carefully observe the little boy beside him full of curiosity and exploratory spirit.
Under the dim light, the face of the little boy looked very dreamy and hazy. On closer inspection, he even began to hallucinate that the little boy in front of him was a dream, and everything that happened today was just an illusion in the dream.
As if to confirm whether he was living in reality or in a dream, Yan Han reached out and touched the boy’s face.
Fingertips lightly swept over the soft eyelids and touched his cheeks. The soft and slightly warm sensation was like a drop of nectar that dripped onto his long-parched heart. And the numb fingertips that had long lost the ability to touch and perceive were gradually reviving warmed by the little boy’s body heat.
Until this afternoon, he had never thought that he would have a son.
Just last night, he was drinking with Qin Xiu in the private room of Lullaby KTV and, feeling tipsy, he joked with Qin Xiu about adopting his son.
Of course, Qin Xiu would never give his son to him, but he did consider adopting a child just in case, at least it would provide some emotional attachment for his parents.
In fact, Yan Han never thought that having a child was necessary, but in the past few years, his parents have repeatedly urged him to quickly bring Zhu Qianying home.
In his mother’s words, "After all, Qianying is very young, and it’s okay to have children a few years later. But, you are getting older and older, do you want to become a father in your forties like your father?"
Yan Han, who was clearly repulsed by his mother, could not speak a word. Of course, he didn’t want to be a father at forty, but the condition was that he had to find Zhu Qianying before forty!
After reading Zhu Qianying’s letter, he immediately ordered a private search for Zhu Qianying. Meanwhile, in order to avoid causing distress and concern to his parents and elders, he made up reasons of sending Zhu Qianying abroad to study as to not raise suspicion.
