Chapter 1106: Chapter 1103: Xiao Lizi and Baby Boy. Extra (64)
Bai Lu and Yan Xu had just finished their lunch when Beibei’s phone call came through.
"Baby boy, the tickets are sorted, front row center seats, express delivery arriving tomorrow, check for it then."
Yan Xu repeatedly thanked him and then asked how much it was.
"Kid, why so formal with me? You don’t see me as your brother anymore?"
Yan Xu hurriedly replied, "Alright, I’ll treat you and Sister Guo to a meal another day."
"Okay, remember to bring Xiao Lizi along."
Yan Xu hung up the phone and made an OK gesture to Bai Lu, who was bringing a fruit plate out of the kitchen.
Bai Lu trotted over and placed the fruit plate on the coffee table.
"All set?"
Yan Xu nodded and forked a piece of dragon fruit into his mouth.
"Do you need to adjust your work schedule, don’t stand me up!"
Even if Yan Xu hadn’t mentioned it, Bai Lu was planning to call the Director to confirm her work hours.
Sihan’s concert was something she had been wanting to attend for a long time and she cherished the opportunity to get tickets through Yan Xu’s connection.
"Don’t worry, I’ll overcome all obstacles to make sure I’m there on Friday."
Actually, Bai Lu was already scheduled to work the day shift on Friday. She called the Director just to give him a heads up in case there was an emergency that they’d need someone else to cover for her.
As expected, the Director was slightly troubled when he heard about her plans for the evening, "There’s a surgery on Friday afternoon. I was planning on having you work some overtime, just a few hours, and it should be done by eight or nine."
Previously, Bai Lu had been always ready to respond to such calls.
Bai Lu learned the details about Friday’s surgery, nothing particularly complicated or rare.
"Director, I’m sorry, but I’ve made plans for that day. The surgery isn’t too difficult, please see if you can arrange for someone else to work overtime."
On hearing that she had made plans, the Director teased her with a smile, "Is it a date with a boyfriend? If it is, I’ll let you off no questions asked."
Bai Lu was quite impressed; her usually stern and upright boss had suddenly become so gossipy.
"Director, it’s a male friend, but not a boyfriend."
The Director ignored her clarification, "It’s the Yan Family’s young master, right? Should I start preparing a red envelope then?"
Bai Lu sighed deeply, "Director, you might as well send over baby formula and diapers while you’re at it!"
After the phone call, Bai Lu was utterly drained.
The next day when she returned to work, the Director called her in his office to pick up some medical records, and couldn’t resist teasing her again when he saw her.
"Xiao Bai, my wife is doing a good job raising our little boys. Want some tips? I’ll ask her to teach you."
Bai Lu, cradling a stack of medical records, rolled her eyes at him.
"Director, you’re a bit behind on the news; I’ve already started looking into kindergartens."
With that, she left with the medical records, "clomp, clomp, clomp."
Apparently, everyone in the branch hospital now thought she and the Yan Family’s young master were an item.
Fortunately, everyone in the hospital was too busy to dwell on the gossip; even if they made jokes, they soon had to go back to their own tasks, leaving little time to gather and chat.
...
On Friday, Bai Lu got off work at exactly five-thirty.
She had arranged with Yan Xu to meet up at the Grand Theater early in the morning, so she didn’t drive, but was now standing at the hospital’s entrance pulling out her mobile phone to hail a ride.
Just as she was pulling up the taxi app, a familiar car screeched to a stop in front of her, and the window lowered to reveal Lu Qingxu’s voice wafting from inside.
"Junior, you didn’t drive today? Shall I give you a lift home?"
Lu Qingxu lived in the same direction as Bai Lu’s apartment, but today Bai Lu had other plans.
Bai Lu bent down to wave at him, "I still have some things to do, and it’s not on my way, thanks anyway."
While she was speaking, another car slowly stopped behind Lu Qingxu’s car, then honked twice.
Bai Lu turned her head and saw that the car that honked was from the Yan Family.
But the driver in the seat wasn’t Uncle Wen, it was Yan Xu.
Bai Lu was slightly surprised and smiled as she waved at Yan Xu, then said to Lu Qingxu, "Brother, Yan Xu is here to pick me up, I’m going ahead, let’s catch up over a meal sometime!"
Lu Qingxu’s eyes darkened. He forced a smile and waved at her, "Go ahead, let’s catch up some other time."
Bai Lu trotted over, opened the co-pilot’s door, and got into the car.
"Why did you come over? I was just about to call a cab."
Yan Xu glanced at the slowly moving car ahead, didn’t reply to her question, but instead asked, "Who were you talking to just now? Online taxi?"
Bai Lu shook her head, "No, I didn’t even get a chance to call. It was my brother; he was also off work."
Upon hearing this, Yan Xu took a serious look at the license plate of the car in front, then turned and glanced at her,
"Was he going to take you home?"
Bai Lu wasn’t foolish; knowing Young Master Yan was particularly sensitive about certain things, she naturally wouldn’t stir trouble.
"No, he just saw me standing by the roadside and asked what happened."
"What did you say?"
With complete transparency, Bai Lu said, "I just told him straight I arranged a meeting with you..."
Only then did Yan Xu let it rest, pointing backward with his hand, "Aunt Lan packed some snacks, if you want to eat, have some now. Later, we can find a noodle shop near the theater, okay?"
Bai Lu nodded, "Sounds good."
Then, she asked Yan Xu, "How come you’re driving? Where is Uncle Wen?"
"I’m feeling alright, so I didn’t want to bother Uncle Wen."
Bai Lu looked closely at his complexion, confirmed he was indeed fine, and said no more.
"After the performance ends, should we go backstage to see Aunt Sihan and see if she’s willing to join us for dinner?"
"Sure."
The Branch Hospital wasn’t too far from the theater, they left the noodle shop with plenty of time before the concert started.
Bai Lu pulled out her mobile phone, then tugged Yan Xu to a flower shop near the theater.
"Do you know what kind of flowers Aunt Sihan likes?"
Yan Xu shook his head, "How would I know? How about we just go with the flow and buy roses?"
Bai Lu glared at him, "Roses are definitely for Uncle Ji to give. Let’s get something else."
Later on, based on the boss lady’s suggestion, they bought a large bunch of sunflowers, which supposedly symbolized a career that thrives continually.
The two held the flowers, checked their tickets according to their seats, and entered. Bai Lu asked Yan Xu, "Should we deliver the flowers backstage in advance?"
Bai Lu was attending a concert for the first time and was completely unfamiliar with the process.
She didn’t even know whether it was permissible to give flowers while the musicians played on stage.
Yan Xu thought for a moment, "Let’s deliver them while Aunt Sihan is performing on stage, she’s currently backstage, probably preparing."
So, Bai Lu sat obediently in her seat holding the bouquet.
After a while, she couldn’t help but lean over and whisper to Yan Xu, "Do you often come to concerts or plays?"
Yan Xu seemed to seriously reminisce for a moment, "Not really, I’ve seen several of Aunt Sihan’s concerts, never a play, nor any other concerts."
Before she could say anything, he turned his head towards her and countered, "Do you like watching plays?"
