Chapter 1082: Chapter 1079: Xiao Lizi and Baby Boy. Extra (40)
The fellow patient looked up and assessed Bai Lu and Yan Xu, "Wow, the little girl is so dignified and pretty, and the young man is spirited and handsome, a perfect match! A perfect match!"
Bai Lu laughed with a snort, but since the person was ultimately a stranger and it was a mix-up, there was no need for her to explain.
She tugged on Yan Xu’s sleeve, and the two of them walked into the hospital room.
"Grandpa, this is baby boy, do you remember him?"
Bai Xiangdong looked up, taking in the tall figure of Yan Xu, and nodded with a smile, "Of course I remember, he hasn’t changed much at all. He’s the spitting image of his dad since he was little!"
Yan Xu obediently called out "Grandpa" and placed the gifts he was carrying on the bedside cabinet before pulling over a chair to sit down.
"Grandpa, I’m sorry, my Grandpa had something come up and couldn’t make it, so he sent me with some gifts for you. How are you feeling now, everything okay?"
Bai Xiangdong nodded, "I was really fine, but the travel agency and the police station insisted on having a family member come to sign and confirm everything. Also, it seems like they haven’t found the accident witnesses yet..."
Yan Xu hummed in acknowledgment, "Grandpa, don’t worry about it, just rest well, I’ll handle the other things."
After he finished speaking, he turned to Bai Lu and said, "I’m going to make a phone call to understand the specific situation, you check how Grandpa’s injury is."
Bai Lu nodded, and without waiting for Yan Xu to step out, she asked Bai Xiangdong to show her where he was hurt.
After his surgery years ago, Bai Xiangdong, thanks to proper postoperative care and a more comfortable life, had been very robust health-wise. After recovering, he set up an appreciation firm with Zong Zhe’s investment, which did very well and even took on several good disciples. Over the years, as his disciples gradually took on more responsibilities, he began living a leisurely life.
"I didn’t hit anything serious, just got some scrapes on my hand, and there are some bruises on my knee and lower back."
Bai Lu carefully examined his injuries and also checked the doctor’s records hanging at the head of the bed; indeed, it wasn’t anything serious.
"What about the bones, any damage there? Did they take X-rays?"
"All done, the results are right here."
Bai Xiangdong took out the examination results from the drawer of the bedside cabinet, and Bai Lu browsed through them all before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
She returned the examination results to the drawer, and Yan Xu came back with his mobile phone.
"Grandpa, I’ve had someone complete your discharge procedures, please start packing up."
This time, not only Bai Xiangdong but also Bai Lu was a bit surprised.
"Yan Xu, you completed Grandpa’s discharge procedures? But he’s still with the tour group here..."
Bai Xiangdong also hurriedly chimed in, "Yeah, my tour group friends are visiting nearby attractions these two days, and one of the tour guides even stayed behind to accompany me. Once I’m all right, I’ll join up with them again and head to the next city."
However, Yan Xu disagreed with Bai Xiangdong’s plan, "Grandpa, you’re indeed in no grave danger now, but the doctor still suggests you should rest well in the meanwhile. Traveling with the tour and sightseeing can be very tiring. I think it’s better for you to cancel the rest of your itinerary."
Bai Lu hadn’t really thought it through previously, assuming they would just let Grandpa stay here to observe for a few days before deciding.
But after hearing Grandpa saying he would rejoin the main party, she disagreed; yet, before she could speak up, Yan Xu had already spoken for her.
"Grandpa, I agree with baby boy’s suggestion. We can discuss whether you should be discharged later, but continuing the tour is definitely not advisable."
With his mouth open, Bai Xiangdong found himself unable to outargue the two sharp-tongued youngsters. In the end, he was overpowered by the two young people, who packed his luggage and helped him into the car, one on each side.
"Baby boy, after so many years, you and Xiao Lu Zi are still as united as you were when you were kids."
There was no ambiguous meaning in Bai Xiangdong’s words, he was simply stating facts.
However, Yan Xu and Bai Lu felt somewhat uncomfortable upon hearing it.
Fortunately, Bai Xiangdong was not a sensitive man, and the two children were very good at disguising their feelings, so with a few casual chuckles, they defused the awkwardness and steered the conversation elsewhere.
"Xiao Lizi, since I don’t really have anything else to do, I might as well stay with you for a few days. Have someone from home come to pick me up and take me back."
Bai Xiangdong actually had the self-awareness to know that his granddaughter would definitely not be at ease letting him go back to City B alone.
But Bai Lu instantly shook her head, "No, you have to stay in the hospital for another couple of days for observation. I’ll call the hospital right now and ask my colleagues to reserve a bed."
Before Bai Xiangdong could protest, Bai Lu had already taken out her Phone and dialed. In just over ten seconds, she had arranged everything.
After she hung up, Bai Xiangdong patted her hand apologetically, "Xiao Lizi, I’m sorry for troubling you again."
Bai Lu sighed, "Grandpa, it’s my lack of filial piety. You’re at such an advanced age, and I let you travel alone. Anyway, you’ll observe in the hospital for two more days, and after you’re discharged and there’s nothing wrong, I’ll spend a few more days with you."
Bai Lu still had a few days of annual leave, which she could nicely spend with her grandpa now.
However, she feared that Director Luo might once again complain bitterly.
Yan Xu also said, "Grandpa, I just happen to be on holiday these days. When you get out of the hospital, Xiao Lizi and I will accompany you around."
Bai Lu glared at Yan Xu over her grandpa’s shoulder, unsure if he was just being polite or serious.
If it was just politeness, she worried her grandpa might take it seriously.
If it was serious, could Yan Xu’s body handle all the traveling?
Yan Xu seemed to sense her gaze and looked up at her, "It’s time I got out and about, too. Always staying at home has almost made me moldy."
Bai Lu frowned and glared at him again, but with her grandpa there, she couldn’t properly chastise Yan Xu.
She could only think to herself that she’d have to find another excuse later to dissuade her grandpa.
She didn’t dare to provoke the hornet’s nest that was Yan Xu.
"Baby boy, you just mentioned communicating with the police station. Did they say if they found the person responsible for the accident?"
"Not yet, but it shouldn’t be hard to find. Although you didn’t remember the license plate, Grandpa, you did remember the make and color of the car. The police can check the nearby intersections, and they’ll find it quickly."
Such matters were not hard to investigate; it was just a matter of whether anyone was willing to do it or not.
The travel agency was from City B and since Bai Xiangdong had only suffered minor injuries, his case wouldn’t be a priority.
However, when Yan Xu made a request, the situation was naturally different.
"I didn’t get seriously injured, but the driver drove away without even looking. Their behavior is fundamentally reprehensible. Once found, they must be strictly punished."
Yan Xu nodded, "Don’t worry, Grandpa. Once we find the person, they will be punished according to normal procedures."
Since everyone had had a rather makeshift lunch, and after all the commotion, everybody was starting to get hungry again.
Yan Xu then asked Uncle Wen to look around, and they settled down in a nearby dining room.
Yan Xu asked Bai Lu to order, but she shook her head repeatedly.
"Forget it, you are more reliable when it comes to this."
Unable to decline, Yan Xu then asked Bai Xiangdong for his opinion and went ahead to order the dishes on his own initiative.
Soon, the dishes were served, and surprisingly, a good half of them were Bai Lu’s favorites!
