"Aunt Ying Zi, I need to go back to the hospital for a bit, I’ll try to make it back in time for dinner."

Upon returning to the Yan family’s home, Bai Lu quickly finished dinner and went back to her busy work without even eating the fruits for dessert.

Bai Lu stayed up working until after two in the morning. Apart from doing a check-up for Yan Xu, taking a shower, and returning to her work, she sat in front of the computer, reading the data and taking notes.

Director Luo’s research is still an uncharted area in the domestic field.

The next morning, she got up as usual to conduct an examination on Yan Xu. Zhu Qianying was also in Yan Xu’s bedroom, watching Bai Lu perform the examination without ever taking her eyes off her face.

After finishing the examination on Yan Xu, Zhu Qianying followed her out of Yan Xu’s bedroom.

"Aunt Ying Zi, is there something you need?"

Zhu Qianying took her hand and led her to sit down in the living room, looking at her very seriously, "Xiao Lizi, you’ve been quite busy lately, haven’t you?"

Bai Lu knew there was a misunderstanding, "No, I’ve joined Director Luo’s research team; last night I was looking for data, that’s why I stayed up so late."

Zhu Qianying doubted her half-heartedly, "Xiao Lizi, you must tell me the truth. It really is a waste of your talents to have you live here. How about I apply with the Dean to have someone else take over? Or, we could simply let the Family Doctor take on this responsibility as well."

Bai Lu shook her head, "There’s no need; I actually have more spare time here to use, whereas if I were back at the hospital, most of my time would likely be spent in surgery, leaving even less time to collect data."

Zhu Qianying scrutinized her carefully to make sure she wasn’t lying, then said, "Alright, if you ever feel like you want to go back to the hospital to work normally, just tell me directly."

Bai Lu nodded, "Aunt Ying Zi, would I even stand on ceremony with you?"

Zhu Qianying patted her shoulder, signaling her to go about her business.

Xiaolu stayed up late playing games last night, so she woke up late. While eating breakfast alone, Zhu Qianying came over to remind her, "Your sister worked overtime until late last night, and she most likely has more things to do later. Find something to entertain yourself and don’t disturb your sister."

Xiaolu had planned a lot of things but felt unhappy upon hearing her Mommy’s words, pouting her lips.

After breakfast, she wheeled Yan Xu in his wheelchair around the courtyard, complaining to him with annoyance.

Xiaolu’s lips curled upwards in displeasure, "Brother, you’re so annoying. Can I stroll through the streets holding hands with Uncle Driver as I could with you? But you can’t even leave the house..."

Yan Xu turned his head and pinched her face to tease her, "Alright, next time I’ll accompany you, I promise to let you indulge to your heart’s content and won’t tattle to Daddy or Mommy."

In the afternoon, Xiaolu set off for the airport. Bai Lu looked apologetic as she put her in the car, "Baby, I’m sorry, next time your sister will definitely let you have a blast!"

Xiaolu complained to her Mommy and brother just for the sake of it. After all, she was more sensible than many girls her age, "Sister, just focus on your work. Even though I can’t understand those academic papers of yours, I always buy the journals whenever they publish your work!"

Bai Lu leaned over to give her a kiss on the face in thanks until the car drove off into the distance, then turned and went back inside the house.

The evening that Xiaolu left, Bai Lu sent Yan Xu’s examination data to Director Luo as usual.

About half an hour later, Director Luo replied by email.

The gist was that Yan Xu’s recovery was going well and recommended a comprehensive check-up at the Public Hospital the next day. If there were no special issues, he could continue to recuperate at home, and moreover, he would no longer need a doctor to accompany him.

Bai Lu forwarded Director Luo’s email to Zhu Qianying. Zhu Qianying and Yan Han had no objection to Director Luo’s suggestions.
