Chapter 1056: Chapter 1053: Xiao Lizi and Baby Boy. Side Story (14)
Bai Lu had said as much, so Yan Yuan didn’t delve deeper into the conversation. He didn’t show any signs of blame toward Bai Lu either, but amiably inquired about her preferences, summoned the butler to have the chef prepare some dishes she liked, and then had the butler show her to the guest room.
"Your room is arranged next to the baby boy’s room, for the convenience of your work. Take a look and see if anything is missing, and speak with Old Liu, he will arrange for someone to add whatever you need."
Bai Lu thanked him with a "Sorry for the trouble," and then followed the butler out.
The nanny had already placed her luggage in the guest room and, after asking for her opinion, didn’t dare to move anything, only placing the luggage in front of the wardrobe.
Bai Lu surveyed the room before her, a space of approximately thirty to forty square meters, the traces of redecoration very evident.
The wardrobe, the full-length mirror, and the dressing table were immediately to the left of the entrance, and on the right were the bathroom and the washroom. The large bed was in the center of the room, near the floor-to-ceiling glass was a wall-hugging mini bar, and beside it was a small living room. Aside from the wardrobe, bed, bar counter, and cabinet, which didn’t look new, the other furnishings like the dressing table, full-length mirror, bedding, sofa, and coffee table were clearly newly purchased. The bedding and sofa were both in the light blue color that Bai Lu liked.
Bai Lu placed her newly bought bath and toiletry essentials into the bathroom, came out, opened her luggage, took out essentials like the laptop, and placed them on the coffee table. Then, she closed the suitcase and put it neatly into the wardrobe.
She hadn’t planned to stay here long-term, after all.
Yan Xu’s condition, although recovering faster than everyone expected, would still require at least two to three months of rest and recuperation.
She couldn’t possibly actually stay here for two to three months.
After closing the wardrobe doors, Bai Lu walked up to the floor-to-ceiling glass and earnestly examined the view outside. That’s when she noticed a small door behind the half-open curtains, with a key inserted in its handle.
She turned the doorknob, pushed the door, and walked out. Outside was a long stretch of eaves, and beneath the eaves was a wooden floating platform raised two steps above the lawn.
The slippers on Bai Lu’s feet were a bit stiff, making a "pat pat" sound on the wooden platform. Remembering what Yan Yuan mentioned about Yan Xu living just next to her and not wanting to disturb the temperamental Young Master Yan, she simply took off her slippers and, barefoot, stepped down onto the soft and moist grass, which tickled her soles. Curling her toes, she crossed the lawn and sat by the edge of a pool on the side of the yard, looking down at the water lilies in it.
Beneath the lily pads, one could occasionally see a few goldfish happily swimming through, and the rockery within the pool was covered in vines and ferns, with unidentified small flowers poking out from the crevices. Next to the rockery, a large cluster of lush, green bamboo was planted.
A breeze blew in from outside the yard, causing the bamboo to sway.
"Xiao Lizi, the wind is a bit strong. Take a coat to wear and be careful not to catch a cold."
Bai Lu turned her head and saw Zhu Qianying standing under the eaves, holding a cup of hot tea, not knowing when she appeared.
"Uh-huh, I am going back to my room now."
Saying this, Bai Lu got up and walked toward Zhu Qianying.
"Is the baby boy settled? I’ll go wash my face and come over to give him a check-up soon."
Bai Lu hadn’t forgotten that she didn’t come to the Yan Family to be a guest, but as a doctor, to ensure the healthy recovery of Young Master Yan.
"No rush, he’s chatting with his grandpa and his daddy. You go for a walk and take a rest first."
So Bai Lu sat down on the floating platform, looking up at Zhu Qianying, "Aunt Ying Zi, you had won many big awards by the time you were twenty-three, hadn’t you?"
Zhu Qianying sat down beside her, smiling, "Why? Is my little Xiaolu worried about her future?"
Bai Lu shook her head, "No, I’ve never really considered the future, I’ve always just done whatever I wanted to."
Rather than worrying about her own future, she was more worried about Yan Xu’s.
"That’s good as well. If you’re not considering, it’s because the path you’re on is the one you want to be on. Thus, you can continue down it steadfastly without any doubts."
"Have you ever had any doubts or been indecisive, Aunt Ying Zi?"
Zhu Qianying shook her head without thinking, "No!"
Zhu Qianying, holding the tea cup, tilted her head and sized up Bai Lu, who was leaning against a wooden post and gazing distantly. After a while, she tentatively asked, "Did your Daddy tell you to go back to the Zong Family?"
Her guess was half right — the situation was guessed correctly, but the person was wrong.
"No, I’m not cut out for business..."
Indeed, she wasn’t cut out for business, but it seemed that the baby boy was said to have quite an economic mind.
However, these were actually none of her concern.
Even if the older generation of the Yan Family wanted to force Yan Xu to do anything, Aunt Ying Zi and Uncle Yan would stop them, so it wasn’t her place to worry.
"Mm-hmm, your Uncle Yan said that he worked so hard so that his family could live as they wished. I think your Mommy and Daddy must think the same. Just do what you like, there’s no need to overthink it."
Bai Lu’s heart suddenly opened up, realizing that all her distress and worries over the past half hour were just needless self-trouble.
With parents like Aunt Ying Zi and Uncle Yan, how could they possibly let Yan Xu’s stinky brat’s future life be interfered with and obstructed by the older generation?
"Aunt Ying Zi, thank you for your advice. I’ll go get ready, see you soon!"
Bai Lu stood up, and Zhu Qianying reached out to pat the grass blades off her butt, "Go on, if you’re tired you can take a nap, just make yourself at home."
Bai Lu turned and smiled at her before heading back to her room.
Half an hour later, voices of Yan Yuan and Yan Han chatting echoed from the outside corridor.
Bai Lu opened the door and went out to meet the two elders face to face.
"Grandpa, Uncle Yan, I’m going to give Yan Xu a check-up now, is that okay?"
Yan Han nodded at her, "Go ahead, the baby boy is chatting with his Mommy."
After knocking, Bai Lu pushed the door open and immediately saw a large bunch of forget-me-nots in a vase on the coffee table.
She retracted her gaze with a bit of embarrassment because she thought the flowers were meant for Zhu Qianying’s bedroom.
"How are you feeling now?"
Bai Lu did her best to look nonchalant as she approached Yan Xu.
Yan Xu’s bedroom was at least twice as large as the one she stayed in, and the style was vastly different from hers.
The bedroom’s decor was primarily black and white, with furnishings aimed at simplicity and convenience, while the wall and display cabinet decor reflected the owner’s preferences and personality.
While asking Yan Xu, Bai Lu’s eyes swept across the walls adorned with bows, crossbows, and swords.
"Not bad!"
Yan Xu’s attitude was still indifferent, but the hostility and guard he had shown when the two were alone a few days before were gone.
Bai Lu placed the stethoscope on his chest, listening to his strong and regular heartbeat, she instructed him, "Although you’re recovering nicely, I still wouldn’t recommend you walk around just yet. If you really feel stuffy, you could use a wheelchair to get around."
