Chapter 1052: Chapter 1049: Xiao Lizi and Baby Boy. Extra (10)
Bai Lu mentioned, glancing at the throat lozenges on the Director’s desk, suddenly remembering the Luo Han Guo tea she had specifically stuffed into her backpack before leaving the house this morning.
She fished the can out of her backpack, specifically went to brew a cup, and handed it to Director Luo, "Master, your wife said you’ve been coughing a lot these days, told you to smoke less."
Director Luo picked up the fruit tea and blew on it a few times, "Don’t listen to your mistress’s nonsense, I only smoke a few each day now."
After taking a sip of the tea, he pushed the medical magazine that was beside him towards Bai Lu, "Yuan Ye and their new drug, the clinical results seem pretty good."
Bai Lu skimmed through the related report quickly, "This is what my aunt’s team has been developing for several years. Its clinical results are better than the first and second generation, has fewer side effects, and, I heard from my uncle, if this were mass-produced, it would only cost half as much as the second generation."
Director Luo hummed in response, "Over ten years ago, when he left his medical profession to go run that institute, we all called him mad, accused him of not sticking to his field, but it turns out, he really managed to accomplish something."
Bai Lu smiled, "Master, our Zong Family’s people, we all have a stubborn persistence in our bones."
Director Luo looked at her, saying meaningfully, "Being stubborn is a good thing, but just make sure you don’t apply it in the wrong direction."
Bai Lu naturally understood that he was warning her not to spend too much energy on Yan Xu.
But the heart of a person is mostly beyond one’s control—it insists on beating wildly for someone, and as its owner, she felt helpless.
"Master, don’t worry, in addition to my stubborn persistence, I also inherited my parents’ business-minded profit-seeking nature, how could I make an unprofitable investment?"
Director Luo had said all that needed to be said, and could only let her be.
Bai Lu stayed in Director Luo’s office for over an hour. Thinking it was about time, she picked up the gift she had prepared early and went to the hospital room to find Zhu Qianying.
When Bai Lu handed the gift to Zhu Qianying, she noticed that her eyes were a bit red and swollen, uncertain how to comfort her, she pretended not to see.
"Aunt Ying Zi, remember how I went on a trip a while ago? I saw a beautiful shawl embroidered by an elderly craftswoman, so I bought one for you and your mommy; do you like it?"
Zhu Qianying took out the shawl, spread it on the blanket, and gently touched the embroidery, "It’s indeed very nice. Give me the address, I’ll go and have a look when I have the time."
Yan Han quietly gave Bai Lu a thumbs up; evidently, Zhu Qianying’s attention was mostly captured by the beautiful embroidery, temporarily setting aside the sorrow stemming from Yan Xu’s injury.
Bai Lu handed another bag to Yan Han, "Uncle Yan, this is a little trinket for you, but I think you’ll like it."
The gift Bai Lu gave to Yan Han was a bone carving ornament, fist-sized, depicting a couple holding a boy and a girl, exquisitely crafted.
On the bone carving, the handsome man, beautiful woman, and little ones looked adorable, "I think this beauty looks a bit like Aunt Ying Zi, so I bought it."
Yan Han carefully examined the bone carving in his hands for a few moments, smiled, and then handed it to Yan Xu, "It does resemble your mommy!"
Yan Xu glanced at it casually and hummed nonchalantly.
Zhu Qianying’s attention finally shifted from the beautiful embroidery on the shawl, she took the bone carving and examined it carefully, "This bone carving must have been done by a master craftsperson, it is exquisitely done, and, it’s not just me, this little girl resembles Xiaoxiao a bit."
As she spoke, she passed the bone carving back to Yan Xu, "Baby boy, do you think it looks like your sister?"
Yan Xu was somewhat indifferent toward his father; after all, as two grown men, they tended to keep their feelings inside and found it too mushy to be openly expressive.
But towards his Mommy, he was just as emotive as when he was a little boy. So, when Zhu Qianying asked him to take a look, he seriously did and then, not sure if he was just agreeing or really thought so, he nodded, "It does look quite similar, though little Xiao Lu smiles even brighter."
The mother and son examined the bone carving for a while before Yan Han inquired about Bai Lu’s elders.
"Grandpa and Grandma are doing very well, and as for my Daddy and Mommy, they are pretty much like you two, living freely and carefreely," she said.
Yan Han then asked about her brother, "Has Xiaoyen decided whether to study abroad or stay for university domestically?"
The youngsters from the Yan Family and Zong Family had inherited their parents’ IQs and had never troubled their parents much academically.
"Not yet, he might decide next year. My parents are not too keen on him going abroad."
Yan Han smiled, "That’s to be expected. Those years you were abroad, your Daddy and Mommy were quite tormented, probably scared by the experience."
Bai Lu had gone abroad for her studies at sixteen. She hadn’t thought much of it, but it indeed had been tough on her father. Initially, her mommy had to fly out every month to stay with her for a few days; it took almost a year for her parents to adapt.
Upon hearing Yan Han say this, Zhu Qianying added, "Reluctant as we may be, we certainly won’t impose our wishes and thoughts on you."
Just like with her son, Zhu Qianying was utterly reluctant for her precious son to live amidst bullets and gunfire, but since he liked it, all she could do was support him!
Bai Lu nodded, "Of course, you guys are all great parents. Hence, I actually do support Xiaoyen going abroad because, in terms of technology, domestically we are slightly behind."
As the conversation shifted from Zong Xiaoyan to little Xiao Lu, Bai Lu remembered to pull out another gift bag from behind her and handed it to Zhu Qianying, "Ying Zi, could you please pass this gift to Xiao Lu? I bought it during my overseas exchange two months ago but forgot to give it to her when I was home."
Zhu Qianying thanked her on behalf of Xiao Lu and then curiously turned to look at Yan Xu.
"Baby boy, what gift did Xiao Lizi send you?"
Since Bai Lu had also prepared a gift for Xiao Lu, Zhu Qianying assumed she must have something for Yan Xu as well, especially since these childhood playmates hadn’t met for over a decade. The reunion must be thrilling.
After exchanging a glance with Yan Xu, Bai Lu laughed, "His gift? He ate it already!"
Originally, she had planned to pamper this Young Master with good food and good living for a few days, but the Young Master simply wasn’t having it.
Zhu Qianying grew even more curious, "Oh? Was it something edible? Some kind of tonic?"
As she spoke, she affectionately pinched Yan Xu’s face, "Tsk, your face has gotten so thin, it’s indeed time for some nourishment."
Yan Xu caught her hand, "Mommy, my body is fine, give me a few more days and I’ll be running around the streets!"
Zhu Qianying glared at him, "You’d better behave and heal up for now, and stop thinking about running around!"
Yan Xu quickly tried to cajole his Mommy with a soft voice, while Bai Lu seized the opportunity to change the subject.
"Aunt Ying Zi, it’s getting late, you must be hungry, right?"
