Chapter 88: Chapter 88: No Girl Stays Eighteen Forever
"You... you’re just being wildly debauched."
Mei Weixuan was so angry... envious that his eyes were red, wishing he could tear Zhong Lin apart and take his place.
"I’m going to report you to Master Yin."
Zhong Lin shrugged and casually said, "Sorry, these were all sent by the Master himself."
"Damn! It’s like a dung beetle wearing a mask—utterly shameless, you’re just showing off."
Mei Weixuan’s tone was filled with resentment. Why did he have to spend his limited money to find warmth in the Xiao Xiang Pavilion, while Zhong Lin had elders voluntarily sending over a pile of beautiful maids at his beck and call?
The gap between people could be so vast.
Zhong Lin, feeling playful, said with a smiling face, "There’s no helping it. Life is lonely like snow. Sometimes the difference between people is just that big. Having all these beautiful maids, why would I go to Xiao Xiang Pavilion, right?"
"Damn."
Mei Weixuan was so angry he didn’t want to speak, his gums nearly biting to pieces.
"Hahaha."
Zhong Lin laughed heartily at Mei Weixuan’s expression. As a hunter from the mountains, he finally surpassed this scion of a noble family in material desires, feeling immensely pleased.
"Don’t go to Xiao Xiang Pavilion tonight. Butler, prepare a table of food and wine for me and Brother Mei to enjoy a drink together."
At Zhong Lin’s command, the butler quickly turned around to make the preparations.
A moment later, the sound of clinking glasses could be heard from the dining table.
"I was going to introduce you to some friends at Xiao Xiang Pavilion, but I guess there’s no chance now."
Mei Weixuan complained, especially seeing the two beautiful maids on either side of Zhong Lin serving him dishes and pouring wine, it made him all the more envious.
"No rush, there will be plenty of opportunities in the future. For now, I just want to stay at the Hundred Herbs Hall practicing martial arts and alchemy. We’ll talk about it later."
Zhong Lin raised his cup and drank it all down, a trace of fiery warmth dispelling the chill in his body.
"Alchemy? That’s a technical job. By the time you learn it, the girls at Xiao Xiang Pavilion might be old."
"No worries, no girl stays eighteen forever, but there are always new eighteen-year-olds."
Mei Weixuan’s eyes lit up, chewing over Zhong Lin’s theory of eighteen-year-olds, and then he suddenly slapped the table.
"Well said, no girl stays eighteen forever, but there are always new eighteen-year-olds. Cheers to that."
Zhong Lin raised his wine glass with a smile, knocked it against Mei Weixuan’s, and drank it all in one go.
"Plus, it won’t be long. I’m already a Second Grade Pill Master."
Poof!
The wine Mei Weixuan had just sipped sprayed right out of his mouth.
"Are you kidding me?"
"Do I look like I’m joking?" Zhong Lin asked.
"That’s impossible. I’ve seen Second Grade Pill Masters, each one deep in study. You’ve only been at the Hundred Herbs Hall for two days. No matter how much of a genius you are... Damn, did you really refine a Second Grade Elixir?"
Mei Weixuan looked as though he had seen a ghost, his face filled with disbelief as he looked at Zhong Lin.
"I’m a genius. You don’t understand the world of geniuses."
"Impossible, this is impossible! It’s not that I haven’t seen geniuses, but this is just too outrageous. I remember you haven’t even touched alchemy, right?"
"No."
"So you really did refine a Second Grade Elixir in just two days?"
"Yes."
Mei Weixuan was somewhat dumbfounded, continuously scratching his head, muttering to himself ceaselessly.
After a while, he suddenly raised his head to stare at Zhong Lin, clenching his teeth and said, "Monster."
"Thank you for the compliment."
Zhong Lin delightedly raised his filled glass again and drank it all.
Fragrant.
It took a good while for Mei Weixuan to snap out of his discouraged state, but when he looked at Zhong Lin again, there was always a sigh in his eyes.
"Don’t look at me like that. Isn’t it better that I’m a genius? When my alchemy skill reaches great success and I refine an unparalleled Divine Pill, eat one and you’ll be invincible in the world, I’ll send you one first." Zhong Lin teased.
"Fine, fine, that’s your promise. I didn’t force you to say it. Come on, let’s make a written agreement, so you won’t back out because of the alcohol later."
Mei Weixuan immediately stood up, pointing at Zhong Lin, shouting incessantly, then asked someone to get paper and pen, making a written agreement, and even had Zhong Lin press his hand seal beside it.
Zhong Lin cooperated with a constant smile. After all, Mei Weixuan was somewhat a benefactor to him, sharing similar interests, and would not forget him if he truly became successful in the future.
Mei Weixuan cautiously folded the written agreement and put it away before raising his wine glass to take a sip.
"Enough of these troubling matters. There’s another important thing this time. Aren’t you quite interested in mutant beasts? Now there’s a chance to catch one, want to come along?"
Zhong Lin froze, pausing the hand that was holding the wine, gently putting the glass down.
"Give me the details."
"My family’s caravan discovered a mutant beast, a Silver Wolf, while passing through the Black Wind Forest. There’s also a little cub that hasn’t opened its eyes yet. What do you think, interested?" Mei Weixuan said excitedly.
Zhong Lin frowned after hearing: "Again the Black Wind Forest? Are you sure?"
"Certainly. Our caravan has business dealings with the northern Cheng Country, and the Black Wind Forest is a necessary route. This was discovered by chance. What do you mean by ’again’?"
"Remember Han Jin? He showed up again, right in the Black Wind Forest. The Master has already gone there."
Mei Weixuan’s smile faded, his expression becoming serious.
"Brother Mei, don’t you find this all too coincidental?"
Mei Weixuan narrowed his eyes slightly, his right index finger gently tapping the table.
"It does seem a bit too coincidental. So you’re saying Han Jin appeared in the Black Wind Forest possibly because of the Silver Wolf cub?"
Zhong Lin nodded: "It’s possible. We must quickly inform the Master. Brother Mei, the drink ends here today. We’ll continue next time."
"Very well, I need to return home for a bit."
The two of them were not the type to dawdle, each getting up and leaving.
Zhong Lin found Manager Deng, informed him of his and Mei Weixuan’s speculation.
Deng Yunsheng’s face turned grave, saying, "Every mutant beast possesses power not inferior to martial artists of the upper third grades. If Han Jin is really after the Silver Wolf cub, it’s troubling. Rest assured, I will send someone to the Black Wind Forest to inform the Hall Master."
Deng Yunsheng hurried in and out, leaving Zhong Lin standing quietly in place.
"Strength, it’s all about strength! My current Sixth Grade cultivation is simply inadequate for such matters. The only thing I can do now is to improve my strength. Once I reach the upper third grades, or even surpass the first grade, then all things will be solved. If not, I’ll settle them with a slice of the sword."
In the dark night, Zhong Lin’s eyes flashed with Divine Light,
