Chapter 40: Heaven Locking Wheel Formation

"I’m also... a sixth-rank formation master."

Golden light begin to gathere at her fingertips, flowing out like water from a spring. She moved her hand slowly through the air, as if drawing on an invisible canvas.

And then, something began to take shape in front of her.

It wasn’t a simple spell or an ordinary formation.

Seven rings formed in the air, overlapping and rotating in different directions. Strange runes flickered between them, appearing and vanishing like fireflies in the dark. Every mark, every line was precise. The entire structure looked like something carved from the laws of the world itself.

This wasn’t a prepared formation.

She was creating it on the spot.

Her spiritual power extended like countless thin threads, anchoring the floating runes in place. With each movement of her fingers, more lines formed, connecting the rings together into a living, breathing formation.

The air grew heavy, the sky darker. Even the clouds stopped moving, as if afraid to disturb her work.

Inside the Shadowclaw Sect’s main hall, Elder Qian opened his eyes, his expression turning grave.

"What... is she doing?"

Shi Ling stared at the spiritual light gathering in the sky.

"She’s not trying to destroy the array," she remarked softly. "She’s analyzing it."

Elder Zhou frowned. "That’s impossible. No one can understand a sixth-rank formation at first glance, let alone manipulate it."

Shi Ling didn’t respond right away. She kept watching the golden rings outside, the way they moved with confidence and clarity.

"She’s a formation master," she said with a wry, bitter smile. "And not just any kind—a true sixth-rank expert."

Outside, Su Jen narrowed her eyes slightly.

"Four main nodes, nine auxiliary anchors... Hmm. Pretty standard structure. They’ve built it for brute-force defense.’

She raised two fingers and tapped the air.

Ding—

A soft pulse rang out. One of the outer light patterns flickered—just for a moment—but it was enough.

Back inside the formation, one of the Core Formation elders suddenly paled.

"The stabilizing node... "

"She’s testing our weak spots," Elder Qian snorted coldly.

Su Jen smiled slightly.

"They react slowly. Not bad, but not perfect."

She rotated her palm and pushed forward.

A single golden line shot out from her formation, like a ray of light. It curved through the air and pierced the barrier around the sect. It didn’t break through—there was no explosion or noise.

Just a faint click.

But inside the formation, everyone felt it.

The bronze sphere at the center of the formation flickered once, its rhythm faltering ever so slightly—as if something unseen had tapped into its pulse.

Shi Ling’s brows furrowed. "She’s probing the array’s harmonics... isolating resonance points."

Elder Zhou’s face darkened. "She intends to disrupt the spiritual synchronization... If she severs even one of the main energy circuits—"

"Then the formation will collapse from within," Elder Wu Li finished grimly.

Elder Qian inhaled slowly. "Maintain focus. Do not let her bait your spiritual threads. If she wants to breach it, she’ll need more than clever tricks."

Outside, Su Jen showed no sign of urgency. Her expression remained calm, almost indifferent, as though she were leisurely peeling apart the secrets of a dusty old scroll.

Lines of golden light extended from her fingers in fine, thread-like strands, merging into the seven spinning rings in front of her. These were not brute-force constructs, but artfully layered mechanisms—fluid yet precise, formed directly from her comprehension of formation principles.

As her spiritual sense spread out, it wrapped itself around the entire defensive array like a second skin.

"Three delay channels along the eastern ridge. The fourth auxiliary node hasn’t been properly synchronized... likely due to insufficient grounding talismans. A shortcut," she murmured to herself, not rushing, only observing.

She raised her hand again.

This time, the seven rings shifted. The inner three contracted, drawing the outer ones inward. With a flick of her sleeve, a net of spiritual force laced with formation runes shot forward, seemingly harmless—until it brushed against the edge of the sect’s barrier.

Chi—

A series of tiny sparks crackled in the air.

Inside, one of the Core Formation elders let out a sharp gasp.

"Node instability rising! One of the auxiliary threads has just reversed polarity!"

"Seal it off," barked Elder Qian. "Now!"

The Core Formation cultivator grit his teeth, adjusting the talisman array in front of him. His hands trembled, but he managed to reinforce the spiritual current just in time.

The flickering light stabilized—barely.

But Su Jen had already shifted her hand once more.

The seven rings hovering before her flared with golden brilliance, and then—silently—two of them disintegrated into motes of light. They did not vanish. Instead, the particles streamed forward, weaving themselves into the spiritual net already cast across the sky.

From within the main hall, Elder Wu Li’s eyes flew open.

"She’s accelerating the resonance!"

Before anyone could respond, a low, vibrating hum swept across the sect. It was deep and hollow, like the groan of a collapsing mountain.

The Heaven Locking Wheel Formation began to flicker erratically. The central bronze sphere pulsed once... then again... but the third pulse came out of sync.

An ominous pause followed.

Boom—!

One of the auxiliary anchors at the eastern ridge exploded in a burst of blue light, sending shards of talismanic metal into the air. The energy flow destabilized instantly. The runes across the barrier twisted, some dimming, others sparking in protest.

Shi Ling rose halfway to her feet, her expression grave. "The feedback is collapsing the anchor nodes. We’ll lose control soon!"

Elder Qian’s face was dark. "Fall back to the core ring. We can’t sustain it!"

Outside, Su Jen gave a faint nod.

As if in response, her floating rings contracted to form a spinning spiral. Her spiritual energy surged, and the golden threads she had laid earlier began to tremble in harmony with the array.

Then she struck.

From the center of her formation, a thin needle of light emerged. It glowed faintly, no thicker than a hair strand, yet it shimmered with layered inscriptions.

It slid forward, almost lazily, passing through the collapsing outer barrier without resistance. And then it touched the formation’s core.

Click.

The sound was so soft it barely registered, yet the moment it occurred, the entire mountain range shook.

The bronze sphere at the heart of the Heaven Locking Wheel cracked down its center.

A heartbeat later— crack-crack-crack —the formation shattered like breaking ice. The protective dome above the sect burst into a rain of fragmented spiritual light.

Inside the pagoda, the four Nascent Soul elders coughed blood almost in unison. Their divine senses, had been forcibly severed.

"It’s gone..."
