Chapter 36: Grandmist Orchid Fairy

Xiao Ning raised an eyebrow. Once again, Wu Shu had surprised him. Truthfully, he had been expecting threats invoking the Wu Clan’s name—or at the very least, some desperate pleas for mercy.

Instead, this man still held onto a shred of dignity.

"No need to be so stiff," Xiao Ning chuckled, He stepped forward and lightly placed a hand on Wu Shu’s shoulder.

In the next moment, a surge of pure yang qi coursed through his meridians. The burning pain in his body began to fade, fractured bones knit themselves back together, and ruptured channels slowly began to recover.

Wu Shu’s eyes widened, disbelief written across his face. He stared at Xiao Ning in utter confusion. "What are you doing?"

This man had just crippled him—and now he was healing him?

But the answer came soon enough.

"I’m certain you’ve already reported everything you know about the woman named Su Jen," Xiao Ning looked at him with strange expression.

Wu Shu’s eyes flickered. So that’s what this was about?

All of this—crippling him, then healing him—was to extract information?

It made sense. That woman... after nearly killing him in a single blow..... likely wouldn’t stop there. Mie Lin, the Shadowclaw Sect... she would likely hunt them all.

No—he knew she would.

In fact, the Shadowclaw Sect had likely already been annihilated.

Was that why Li Fang was here? Had he come out of seclusion only to find his sect in ruins? Was this vengeance?

A glimmer of hope returned to Wu Shu’s eyes. If so, he still had leverage.

He straightened slightly and met Xiao Ning’s gaze with unexpected confidence. "Li Fang... Whatever you’ve heard, it had nothing to do with me. That woman nearly took my life as well. You saw it yourself."

"Is that so?" Xiao Ning’s gaze sharpened.

Wu Shu saw the reaction and his confidence grew.

"Yes! Absolutely. It was all that little bastard Jiang Chen! If not for him, none of this would’ve happened!" Wu Shu’s voice rose in anger, real hatred flashing across his face.

Xiao Ning’s eyes flickered, clearly considering his words.

"If that’s the case... then tell me—who is she?"

Wu Shu let out a dry laugh. "Tell you? And once I do, what’s stopping you from killing me anyway?"

For a moment, Xiao Ning’s expression darkened. A wave of killing intent surged forth.

"Don’t try my patience," he muttered. "She isn’t just a Heavenly Tribulation cultivator, is she?"

Wu Shu’s heart skipped a beat. He knows ?

But before he could speak, Xiao Ning continued.

"I don’t know her exact cultivation, but... she’s either at or has stepped into the Divine Transformation Realm."

Wu Shu suddenly laughed bitterly. "If you already know that, then what more do you want from me?"

"I want her identity," Xiao Ning replied flatly. "You must have learned something. I want every scrap of information."

Wu Shu’s lip curled in derision. "Even if I tell you—what then? So what if you know who she is? Would you, Li Fang, dare go up against someone like that? Someone at the Divine Transformation Realm? Hah! You wouldn’t even survive meeting her eyes."

Xiao Ning didn’t answer right away.

But his eyes were deep and calm like a still lake, held no fear.

Wu Shu’s mockery slowly faded as he stared into Xiao Ning’s quiet, unblinking eyes.

That silence pressed on his chest more heavily than any spiritual pressure. The more he looked at Xiao Ning, the less certain he became.

Was he bluffing?

Or did he truly have the means to challenge someone at the Divine Transformation Realm?

Wu Shu’s throat tightened. He was injured, yes—but not stupid.

Wu Shu lowered his gaze slightly. "...Fine," he muttered, his voice laced with bitterness. "I’ll tell you what I know. But I only learned about her a day ago."

He looked up at Xiao Ning, with grim expression.

"After our last encounter—after she nearly killed me—I barely made it out alive. My injuries were severe. I spent the night recovering in a hidden sanctuary and sent a report back to my clan, demanding any intelligence they had on her."

He took a shaky breath.

"They responded yesterday."

Xiao Ning’s eyes sharpened, but he said nothing.

Wu Shu continued. "She’s not just some rogue powerhouse. According to the clan elders... she’s one of the most formidable cultivators in the Outer Divine Sector. Late-stage Divine Transformation Realm. No one knew she was still alive—she’s supposed to be crippled, or dead."

He paused, glancing at Xiao Ning’s face, seeing no notable changes, he continued.

"She reshaped the entire Jade Flowing Realm. Under her hand, it became a paradise for righteous Dao cultivators.

She purged every sect and clan deemed unorthodox—natural path, demonic, forbidden arts—it didn’t matter. She uprooted entire forces, exterminated anyone she judged too dangerous. Some worshipped her. Others called her a self-righteous executioner."

He paused, as if searching for the right words.

"They called her the Jade Severing Immortal. But in the eyes of many, she was no better than a butcher in white robes."

The truth is... the line between righteous and demonic cultivation has never been clean. It’s not just about technique. Not anymore.

Back in the ancient days, demonic, evil or devil, simply meant unorthodox—those who used blood-refining, soul sacrifices, or the path of corruption. It was a matter of method. But over time, it became political. Sect alliances, ancient grudges, competition over heavenly veins or realm access—it all became wrapped in moral language.

One sect refines souls to strengthen their cauldrons—they’re labeled evil. Another devours the qi of fallen enemies through a ’righteous’ divine art—and they’re praised for upholding heavenly order.

In the Jade Flowing Realm, it reached a breaking point. Su Jen—back then, still known as the Grandmist Orchid Fairy—rose to power by seizing control of the Luminous River Sect. She reformed it completely, aligned herself with Heaven’s Mandate, and declared a crusade to ’purify’ the realm.

She unified the realm—yes. But hundreds of sects vanished. Some of those sects weren’t even truly demonic—just too independent, or unwilling to bend the knee.

And for a time, the realm flourished. But even a realm of jade can crack beneath too much pressure.
