Cucking The Demon King -
Chapter 70: New Status Effect
Chapter 70: New Status Effect
Liam’s crimson eyes flickered slightly in surprise. He hadn’t seen either of them during the confession, and for a while, he had wondered where they had gone. But to think that they would end up as his teammates in this mission...
’Interesting.’ He thought, the edges of his lips curling up slightly.
On the other hand, Elsa didn’t feel very glad about the twins appearance.
Her brows knitted as she stared at them, her arms crossing in mild irritation.
"What a pain..." She muttered under her breath, her lips curling downward as her gaze met Emma’s.
She had assumed that, as Silvagolds, they had been given a special mission—something different from the other students. But it seemed she had been mistaken.
She clicked her tongue quietly.
Elsa wasn’t fond of the Silvagolds. While she never had any direct conflict with them, she found their family to be insufferable, always carrying themselves as if they were above all other nobles.
They felt like they were special, and to be honest, they were as the descendants of the knight king.
However, she still disliked them, not really caring about what kind of weight their family held in the history of the world.
Of course, she knew her thoughts were hypocritical. Almost every noble family acted the same way. Her own wasn’t exactly humble, either.
Still, something about the Silvagolds irritated her.
Liam, however, didn’t comment on Elsa’s reaction. He simply gave Emma a brief nod, acknowledging her presence.
Emma’s cheeks turned slightly pink, and she shyly nodded back, avoiding his gaze.
Meanwhile, Rex was struggling to keep his composure.
The moment his eyes landed on Liam, an involuntary shudder ran down his spine. He clenched his fists, his breathing uneven.
It had been weeks since he had that horrifying dream—the one where Liam beat him mercilessly.
He could still remember the sight of the demon towering over him, his bright red eyes shining ominously.
Ever since then, he had been plagued with nightmares.
Every single night, he found himself waking up in a cold sweat, his heart hammering in his chest.
And now...
Now, he was standing right in front of him.
A part of him wanted to turn around and run. To get as far away from Liam as possible.
But he forced himself to stay.
He inhaled sharply, mustering every ounce of his willpower to keep his feet solid on the ground. Slowly, he approached the group.
Emma followed close behind him, her cheeks flushed red as she bowed her head to the ground.
She didn’t dare look at Liam directly.
Her heart was pounding.
’He seems to have gotten... even more handsome.’ She thought, fiddling with her fingers as she walked.
Though they had only interacted a few times, she had developed a huge crush on the white haired student.
There was something about his presence... something that made her chest tighten.
So, she kept her head down and walked forward in silence.
Once all ten students had gathered, the priest motioned for them to step forward.
Just like he had done with the other groups, he lined them up in front of the massive Seraphim statue towering over them.
The students lowered their heads as the priest began his prayer.
"Oh, Holy Seraphina, guide these young ones on their righteous path. May your divine blessings shield them from corruption, and may your light illuminate their way..."
Liam stood still, his head slightly lowered, but his mind was elsewhere.
Prayers.
He had never believed in them.
He had prayed once, when he was a child—when he was desperate. He had asked the goddess for a blessing, for anything that could save him from the hellish life he had been trapped in.
But no one answered.
He prayed relentlessly, begging at the church everyday, but at the end of the day, nothing changed.
It was then he realised that no god was coming to save him, and since then, he had never wasted his breath on gods again.
Still, he remained silent as the priest finished.
"May the Goddess bless you," the priest murmured. "Now, step inside and receive your mission."
With that, he gestured toward the large wooden doors at the end of the hall.
The students filed in.
The room they entered was massive, with tall walls covered in intricate sculptures of divine beings.
Large stained-glass windows lined the upper sections, casting colorful rays of light across the polished marble floor. The air was thick with the scent of burning incense.
At the far end of the room, a wooden desk sat before an altar. Behind it, a black-haired priest was seated, his hands folded neatly on the desk.
Standing beside him was a familiar bald headed figure—
Mr. Kurt.
One of their instructors.
The moment they stepped inside, Kurt’s sharp eyes swept over the students, narrowing when they landed on Liam.
Liam met his gaze, unfazed.
Meanwhile, the priest gave them a warm smile.
"Welcome, children," He said gently, motioning them to come closer. "Please, step forward."
The students obeyed, approaching the desk and bowing their heads in respect.
But Liam...
He wasn’t paying attention to the priest.
His crimson eyes flickered briefly—
And he activated [Eye of Truth].
Immediately, a translucent blue screen appeared before him.

Liam’s gaze sharpened slightly.
’Tenny Lenny, what a funny name.’ He mumbled inwardly.
Compared to Kurt, his physical abilities were quite low.
However, the priest’s mana pool was about twice large, as well as his magic power.
It was clear that unlike his bald headed instructor, the priest had never really bothered about training his body.
But still, Liam was a bit surprised at how high his intelligence was, as well as his health and magic power.
’His blessing is only rare rank, and they’re both master level... but there’s such a difference between their stats.’ He thought.
He couldn’t help but wonder who would win in a fight between them, whether it was Kurt with higher physical stats, or the priest with more magical power.
But to be honest, the result would probably be the latter, as magic power and mana pool were very important factors in a fight between holy mages.
But his excitement stood out.
Liam’s fingers twitched slightly.
What was this priest so eager about?
The priest’s smile widened as he lifted his hands.
"Young ones, today, you shall be granted the blessings of our Holy Goddess. One by one, you will step forward and receive the divine touch."
Liam remained silent.
But deep down...
Something about the man’s excitement didn’t sit right with him.
Liam pushed aside the strange feeling crawling up his spine, focusing instead on the priest before them.
But he said nothing.
The priest, still wearing that warm smile, reached into a small wooden box on his desk and pulled out ten identical letters. Each was sealed with a golden wax emblem, engraved with the symbol of the goddess.
It was the exact symbol that hung from their pendants—the same image of the sun that and a woman worshipping it that represented the goddess and her grace.
"Take these," the priest said, handing each of them a letter. "Inside, you will find details regarding your mission, as well as the roles assigned to you."
Liam accepted his letter without a word.
The golden seal shimmered slightly under the candlelight, its intricate markings seeming almost alive.
His eyes narrowed.
He had a bad feeling about this.
But, once again, he said nothing.
Instead, he ran his fingers over the seal and broke it open.
The moment his skin touched the golden wax—
A soft golden glow erupted around his body.
Not just his.
The same thing happened to every single student standing beside him.
Dim, flickering halos appeared above their heads, casting faint golden light over their faces.
Liam’s eyes widened.
At that exact moment—
A notification flashed before his vision.
[New Status Effect Acquired]
[Divine Mark – Temporary]
[You have been marked by the will of the Holy Goddess. Your actions during this mission shall be watched closely.]
Effects:
• Increased divine perception from Holy Artifacts.
• Certain areas of the church will now recognize your presence.
Liam stiffened.
His fingers curled tightly around the letter.
’What... is this?’ He thought, gnashing his teeth in annoyance. ’Marked? By the will of the Holy Goddess?’
This wasn’t normal.
This was the first time his system was telling him about a status effect.
Besides, the term ’watched closely’ didn’t sit well with him in the slightest.
He already had plans for this mission, he couldn’t let some stupid mission from the goddess ruin it.
He had too many secrets to afford the church watching his every action.
Without doubt, his identity as a demon surely be discovered, and he would be instantly sentenced to death.
He glanced around, noting the subtle confusion on the faces of the other students.
They had clearly noticed something strange, but unlike him, they didn’t have a system to break it down for them.
However, none of them spoke.
If anything, most of them were excited at the thought of finally going on a mission to help the church.
Elsa, simply furrowed her brows, staring hard at the letter in her hands.
The priest’s voice broke through the silence.
"Now, open your letters."
Liam took a breath, pushing down his unease.
Then, he unfolded the parchment.
