Cucking The Demon King
Chapter 140: I saved them

Chapter 140: I saved them

So let me get this straight," he muttered, voice laced with irritation. "One faction is wasting years trying to open a giant demon door. Another is butchering towns looking for a magical meat puppet. And the third is running around trying to kill a girl because they think she’ll screw everything up."

Jaegel swallowed. "That’s... yes."

Liam turned away from him, hands still behind his back. He looked up at the darkening sky, a single pale star already visible through the canopy.

It was laughable.

Idiotic.

He’d spent the last few weeks thinking the Order was a singular, unified force. A true enemy. Something precise. Clean.

Instead, it was a collection of clashing lunatics, each convinced their path was the right one.

The only thing more dangerous than fanatics... was a group of fanatics who couldn’t agree.

And the worst part?

They were still effective.

A few minutes later...

Liam sighed, staring at the red haired girl on the make-shift bed.

It wasn’t actually his tendrils of darkness he used to form a small bed, one which she could lay on and rest on.

After leveling up the skill, he realized he could now use it to form simply constructs like a chair or even a bed.

Though it was actively consuming his energy, he had enough to spare.

Jaegel was standing behind him, but he was so still that one could even mistake him for a statue.

He didn’t date to make a sound, feeling he might annoy Liam if he did.

Liam only ignored him, more focused on the girl lying on the bed.

They were currently in a small, abandoned cottage, which they found on their way away from the forest.

After scanning the area with his authority and seeing there was no threat, he decided they rest here for a while, mainly because of Emma.

After all, they couldn’t keep going on while she wasn’t fully healed.

Suddenly, he felt a faint magical presence in the air, and his brows furrowed into a frown.

’That seems... familiar.’ He thought, narrowing his eyes.

When he focused on it, he could sense that it wasn’t really a presence, but more of a sign.

The sign was faint—barely more than a whisper of magic on the breeze.

Liam subconsciously used his demon authority to observe it, and the ’presence’ revealed itself as a thin strip of dark smoke.

Jaegel noticed his strange behaviour, and his mouth parted slightly, but the sheer pressure radiating off Liam made him snap it shut.

This wasn’t for him to question.

’This area around us is an illusion...’ Liam mumbled inwardly, and immediately, a particular heretic popped up in his mind.

Eva.

He remembered her aura. Quiet, calculating. A woman who knew when to press forward and when to bow out.

When she’d first appeared during their investigation, he’d thought her a spy, a threat. She hadn’t denied it.

But the moment she’d seen what he could do, she’d backed down, withdrawn like a shadow, vanishing before he could press further.

And now she left him a path?

He didn’t trust her, but he felt a bit annoyed she managed to evade his senses up till now.

"Stay here," Liam said without turning.

Jaegel flinched. "But—"

"I’m not asking."

Jaegel immediately bowed his head and slinked toward a nearby tree, visibly relieved not to enter.

Liam stepped forward, walking out of the cottage.

He slowly observed the dark strip of smoke, watching it as it turned and moved around the forest, like it was leading him somewhere.

’Is she... trying to show me something?’ He thought, his brows furrowing into a frown.

He was still annoyed that he didn’t sense it immediately, but now, he had to follow her signal to know why she was calling him.

However, he followed anyway, his guts telling him whatever she had to show him must be something important.

After walking for a few more minutes, he appeared in front of a large, colourful mansion, and the dark strip of smoke leading him vanished into thin air.

However, his focus was no longer on that, instead it was on the beautiful woman standing in front of him.

Eva.

She looked calm. Her hair swept neatly behind her ears, her long coat brushing against the polished wooden floor.

He could tell the house behind her was another illusion of hers, one that he wouldn’t even had noticed if she didn’t lead him to it.

The illusion around her shimmered faintly with magic, but it didn’t hide the tension in her shoulders. She expected resistance.

She wasn’t wrong.

Liam narrowed his eyes. "Eva."

"I’m glad you found it," she said, voice smooth but quiet. "I wasn’t sure if you’d notice the sign."

"I noticed." His hand remained near his hip, ready. "If this is a trap—"

"It’s not." She raised both hands slowly. "I’m not here to fight you."

"I’m supposed to believe that?" Liam muttered. "Last time we met, you tried to kill me."

"I was... trying to kill you, it’s all in the past now." She didn’t even try to deny it. "But, I’m not anymore. I already told you, I’ll leave you alone, and I did just that."

Liam’s gaze sharpened. "And why’s that?"

"Service." Her eyes flicked toward the mansion behind her.

Liam’s brows raised, a bit confused by what she meant by that.

"I found your other teammates, the girl, Elsa—"

Before she could even finish her words, Liam vanished from his position, reappearing in front of her instantly, with one hand pressed against her throat.

"What did you do to them?" He asked, his eyes glowing bright red.

Eva choked, trying her best to free herself from his grip.

But nothing she did worked, as his strength was no match for hers.

"I-I... didn’t... d-do any... thing..." She mumbled, her eyes already turning red. "I... s-saved... them..."

Liam immediately freed her, and she dropped to the ground, coughing uncontrollably.

"What do you mean by that?" Liam asked, looking at her with a frown on his face.

"I helped them. The knight; Emerald, and the rest of the girls... Lela. Elsa. Cynthia. They were about to be killed by an heretic, and I saved them." Eva quickly answered.

’You could have at least... let me finish...’ She mumbled inwardly, clicking her tongue as she slowly rose back up on her feet.

"You?" His voice dipped. "You took that risk?"

"Yes, I did." Eva said, still rubbing her throat. "Maybe... calm down and listen next time..."

Liam stared at her for a long moment.

She wasn’t lying. He could feel it.

But still... he didn’t move.
