Chapter 114: [Core Dungeon] [1]

[Event <Core Dungeon.>]

’Huff....’

Akamir drew in a deep breath as he looked at the mirror in front of him.

His crimson eyes examined his full-body suit that was provided by the academy.

It clung to his form, tight but not revealing, built more for function than style.

The morning light shone from the window as he wore the coat over it.

He adjusted the collar, tugging the sleeves once before slipping into the dark coat folded on the chair.

Outside, the academy grounds buzzed faintly with energy.

Students were already heading to the teleportation portal, some excited, some nervous.

Akamir picked up the black gloves resting on the desk and pulled them on.

He walked out of the small changing room as he arrived in the hall.

Viros and Luca were already there waiting for him.

Akamir smiled as he looked at Viros. "You guys ready?"

"Yeah." Viros said, turning around. "Let’s go."

Akamir walked towards them as he noticed Luca rubbing his hand.

’Why is he so nervous?’

Akamir wondered, glancing at Viros who quickly caught up.

"He has a fear of cramped places." He said, grinning widely. "Buld is such a pussy."

"Oh, I don’t want to hear it from the guy who drinks milk of some....weird things." Luca rebuked, a disturbed look on his face.

Viros looked at him like he was really offended.

"What do you mean, weird?" He barked, glaring at him. "Those things are divine!"

"Like how!?" Luca said, his voice laced with disbelief. "Those things don’t fucking—."

"Alright, shut up, both of you." Akamir said, pushing them both aside. "We should focus on the thing in front of us."

"Yeah, whatever." Luca grumbled. "I don’t care."

Akamir gave Luca a quick glance.

"Now that I see you." He mumbled, taking his attention. "Aren’t you a little short and skinny?"

Luca was the shortest of them, barely reaching 5’7", which was oddly enough below average.

Viros grinned. "He got that femboy build."

Luca looked like he might actually explode.

"Say that again, and I swear I’ll dropkick you into the portal."

Viros held up both hands, laughing. "Hey, hey, no shame in being delicate. Some people find that cute—like me."

"That’s a really disturbing thing to say." Akamir mumbled, shaking his head. "You might like boys."

"Shut up." Viros said, his voice barely audible. "You look like a girl anyway."

Akamir formed a layer of frost under his legs, making him almost trip on his face.

"Fuck!" Viros groaned. "Don’t do that."

Nayomi, who floated just above Akamir, glanced down at him.

"He isn’t wrong though." She said. "You really looked like a girl before."

Akamir looked up only for his face to graze her breast.

’Why is she floating over my head?’

"What about now?" He asked without showing any reactions. "Do I still look like one?"

"No." Her reply was immediate. "You look more muscular now."

Akamir shook his head as the three of them stepped out onto the large stone platform.

Dozens of other students were already gathered, standing in groups talking to themselves.

Hovering above the center of the platform was the teleportation gate.

It spun slowly, its surface shifting like ripples in water, pulsing with light that hummed faintly through the air.

The portal that will lead them straight to the gate of the core dungeon.

Professors and academy staff stood around its edges, checking names and giving last-minute instructions.

"I hope we are in different teams." Luca muttered. "I really want to beat you both in the exams."

Viros scoffed. "You? Beat us? You still flinch when someone throws a pebble."

"I flinch because I dodge, you idiot," Luca snapped back. "You just eat the hit and hope your bones don’t break."

Akamir gave both of them a look.

’I wonder what they race they belong to?’

He did have some ideas with how much he had talked with them.

But Akamir couldn’t be sure if they don’t tell him with their own mouths.

Professor Danyal stood at the front, arms behind his back, his sharp eyes scanning the students.

He was built like someone who had once lived on the battlefield.

The burn scars on his neck and the metal bracer on his left wrist spoke louder than any of his lectures.

It took only five more minutes for all the students to give their attendance.

When everyone had arrived, Danyal stepped forward.

"Alright, students!" His voice boomed, taking everyone’s attention.

"Now, we will be telling your assigned group!"

The staff brought a huge banner and opened it.

The poster had the group number and the names of the students.

Akamir narrowed his eyes as he found his group, which was—group 9.

Akamir Leon Vyavan, Viros Kelthorn, Luca Antirn, Zaina Edevane, Ronin Bran, Lyselle Polama, and Raniga Brown.

Akamir looked at his teammates and then glanced to his side.

Viros was grinning ear to ear while Luca had an awful look on his face.

Akamir rubbed his temples in frustration.

’This is going to be a pain.’

"...."

"...."

"...."

When the group assigned to them was all gathered, nobody spoke for a while.

They all looked at each other awkwardly or glared at others with hatred.

"Can you guys make a plan?" It was the plain looking boy Ronin who spoke. "We only have five minutes for it."

Akamir crossed his arms, eyes flicking between each member of the group.

Zaina stood with her usual stiff posture, her eyes narrowed, lips pressed in a line.

Lyselle was chewing gum, blowing a tiny bubble and popping it without breaking eye contact with anyone.

Raniga had her arms crossed, leaning back like she wanted to be anywhere but here.

Ronin still looked like someone had dropped him into a military camp by mistake.

"We don’t need a fancy plan," Viros said, casually swinging his axe onto his shoulder. "We just go in, smash whatever’s in front of us, and get out."

"Brilliant," Luca muttered sarcastically. "Is that what too much milk does to your mind?"

"Shut up, babydoll." Viros shot back. "Act like a boy before we talk."

Zaina let out a loud sigh. "Enough."

Everyone quieted. Even Viros paused, raising a brow at her.

Zaina glanced at Akamir. "You’re the strongest here, aren’t you? Lead us."

Akamir blinked at her, then looked away. "No. I don’t want to lead."

Akamir had other plans than babysit them.

He still needed to grab the item that will help in the creation of Nayomi’s body.

And quite frankly, he wanted to keep others safe by separating them.

"You’re joking," Raniga scoffed. "So we’re just going to wander around and hope we don’t die?"

"You need a plan?" Akamir said, looking at her. "We’ll work together. I’ll handle the front. Viros, you’re next to me. Luca and Zaina—midline. Ronin, Raniga, Lyselle—support and rear. Happy?"

"That’s more like it," Ronin said, nodding slightly.

"Wait, why do I get midline?" Zaina asked. "I can take front."

"Sure," Akamir said, "but can you keep Viros from charging ahead?"

Zaina looked at Viros, then sighed. "...Midline is fine."

Raniga yawned loudly, making everyone look at her. "This is the most annoying thing to do."

’Who is she again?’

Akamir wondered, tilting his head in confusion.

He wasn’t sure, but Lyselle wasn’t lashing out at her so she must be important.

Professor Danyal’s voice boomed from behind. "Group 9! Step onto the portal!"

"Our turn." Viros said excitedly as he led the group. "Let’s go baby!"

Akamir sighed as he followed him and so did the rest.

Zaina walked towards him slowly, leaning to his ear. "Hey, Akamir."

"Hmm?"

"Are you free after the dungeon?" She asked, her voice soft.

"Yeah," Akamir tilted his head in confusion. "Why?"

"Let’s go on a date." She said, smiling brightly. "You and me."

Akamir blinked, finding it a little odd that she proposed the idea herself.

’Did something happen?’

He wondered if she met with Inara or something.

’Inara.....’

Thinking about her, Akamir’s mood shifted.

She hasn’t talked to him since yesterday after he told her about Lucien.

Now, he wasn’t really sure if she would actually accept her brother’s death.

’It would be a pity if that happens.’

Akamir thought, feeling an odd sense of sadness.

’I really like that girl.’

Even though she was ten years older, but mentally.....

’Wait, I am younger than her even mentally.’

Akamir really didn’t like that.

Professor Danyal gave Akamir a device.

"Cut the left ear of whatever beast you kill and store it in this." He said, his voice dismissive. "There are teachers on every floor in case you need help."

Akamir nodded as he looked at the portal.

Taking in a deep breath, he walked inside it.
