Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Treasure Piggy and the Trembling Body 3
Tinglan Garden.
The doctor finished checking Meng Qianqian’s pulse, shook his head, and let out a long sigh.
He moved to the room next door.
Lu Yuan was sitting in a chair, sipping tea.
The Commander of the Imperial Guard stood by his side. Seeing the doctor enter, he asked, "Doctor Zhang, how is it?"
The doctor clasped his hands helplessly. "Forgive this old man for being powerless."
The Commander of the Imperial Guard frowned. "Is it that severe?"
Lu Yuan said calmly, "Cen Steward, see Doctor Zhang off."
The steward named Cen walked in from the door, picked up Doctor Zhang’s medicine box, and politely said, "Doctor Zhang, this way please."
Doctor Zhang bowed to Lu Yuan, then turned to leave.
The Commander of the Imperial Guard’s face was filled with disbelief. "Wait... how can this be... she... kneels for a while and ends up like this?"
He didn’t know if he was more regretful or more shocked at the moment.
"My lord, should I... go fetch the Imperial Physician?"
In fact, Doctor Zhang’s medical skills were not inferior to that of an Imperial Physician; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been qualified to practice medicine in the Governor Mansion.
However, each doctor has their own specialties, and some possess ancestral secret techniques. Who knows, maybe the Imperial Physician might know a remedy to save Lady Lu?
But Lu Yuan simply said, "Qing Shuang."
Qing Shuang suddenly appeared, dropped to one knee, and said, "Here."
Lu Yuan gazed at his teacup. "Go pay a visit to the Wanhuafang Pavilion."
Qing Shuang responded, "Understood!"
Snow fell heavily for the entire day, blanketing everything in a vast expanse of white.
The once-bustling streets turned desolate, with few exceptions such as the decadent Wanhuafang Pavilion.
Inside its grand hall, music filled the air, light singing and graceful dances enchanted an endless stream of guests.
"Come, someone, brew tea for this young master!"
The ornately dressed madam waved her fan, holding a still-warm gold ingot as she smiled and ascended to the second floor.
"The heavier the snow, the better the business. The filthy men in this world are all the same!"
She wiped away her smile, pushed open her private room door, and had just stepped inside when a long sword pressed against her throat.
Her eyes flickered, but she chuckled unhurriedly, lightly pushing the blade aside with her fingertips. Turning to face the uninvited guest, she said, "Oh my, what’s the meaning of this?"
Qing Shuang replied, "The Grand Commander has ordered you to come to the Governor Mansion."
She swept her sleeves, twirled gracefully, and sat down with alluring charm. "And if I refuse to go?"
"Then pardon my rudeness."
Qing Shuang stepped forward, raised two fingers on her left hand, and struck her acupoint. In the same motion, her right hand twirled, seamlessly sheathing the treasure sword back at her waist!
With that, Qing Shuang hoisted the woman over her shoulder, leaped through a window, and disappeared into the snowy silence.
By the time she was seated across from Lu Yuan, her face had turned green!
Qing Shuang unsealed her acupoint.
She glared viciously at Lu Yuan. "Grand Commander, what is the meaning of this?"
Lu Yuan smiled. "It’s been a while, Lady Yan. I trust you’ve been well."
"Spit!" Lady Yan sneered, "Stop putting on airs in front of me! Not long ago, your lapdog almost shut down my Wanhuafang Pavilion, and you’re going to pretend that never happened?"
Despite her insult, Lu Yuan showed no trace of anger. Instead, he continued smiling warmly, like a gentle spring breeze. "It was business as usual. Besides, it wasn’t unwarranted. We did indeed uncover assassins hiding there."
Lady Yan sneered mockingly. "Oh? From the way you’re talking, should I be bracing for charges of harboring spies next?"
Lu Yuan chuckled. "Lady Yan, you misunderstand."
Lady Yan rolled her eyes. "Hmph!"
"The reason I invited Lady Yan here today—"
"Kidnapped! You mean kidnapped me here!"
Lady Yan corrected irritably.
Lu Yuan’s smile remained calm and unflappable, ignoring her tone as he continued. "It’s to ask Lady Yan to save someone."
"Not interested!"
Lady Yan rejected him without hesitation.
Lu Yuan tapped his fingers lightly on the table.
Qing Shuang picked up the white handkerchief beside him, walked over, and handed it to Lady Yan.
On the handkerchief lay a silver needle. Unlike common silver needles, this one was heavier, longer, and its handle bore intricate, threaded patterns.
Lady Yan’s eyes froze briefly. "This is—"
Lu Yuan said, "Lady Yan has always been after the Chu family’s Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles, hasn’t she? Years ago, Madam Chu used them to kill her husband, the Chu Grand Marshal, then set fire to the entire Chu Family estate before taking her own life. Since then, the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles have been lost."
Lady Yan cast a doubtful glance at Lu Yuan. "The person you want me to save... has something to do with the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles?"
Lu Yuan’s expression held a faint smile. "You’ll find out once you save them, won’t you?"
Lady Yan chuckled dryly. "Do you think just one needle is enough to fool me into acting? I could forge silver needles like this myself, as many as you want!"
Lu Yuan didn’t respond. He raised his teacup and leisurely blew on the steaming tea.
Lady Yan glared at him furiously. "Where’s the person?"
Qing Shuang escorted Lady Yan next door. A quarter-hour later, Lady Yan returned.
A steaming cup of tea had been poured for her on the table.
She picked up the teacup, took a slow sip, and smirked. "Oh my, what a stunning beauty. No wonder the Grand Commander disdains the girls at my Wanhuafang Pavilion. Turns out a celestial fairy has been hiding in your mansion all along."
Lu Yuan smiled faintly and asked, "Can she be saved?"
Lady Yan replied, "That girl has an extreme cold affliction. She can’t withstand even a hint of cold; each exposure worsens her condition."
In Lu Yuan’s mind, the scene of first meeting Meng Qianqian flashed briefly. Later, someone mentioned that she had walked back to the Lu Family soaked in freezing rain.
Lady Yan continued, "The lingering cold hasn’t dissipated, and today, kneeling in the snow for so long, even if she doesn’t die, she’s only half alive. Worse still, she’s repeatedly overexerted herself, causing internal injuries, and the cold has invaded her heart meridian. She’s beyond saving! Such a pity—she was a rare prodigy with exceptional natural talent..."
Lu Yuan remarked nonchalantly, "If even a minor illness like this can’t be cured, it seems even with the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles, they’d be of no use to you."
"Stop using reverse psychology!"
Lady Yan rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time. "It’s not that I lack skill, but for a cold affliction of this severity, treatment requires Red Ganoderma combined with ephedra, cassia twig, and perilla leaf, applied with acupoint techniques, along with external moxibustion and internal medication. Only then can it be cured. As for Red Ganoderma—it’s priceless and unattainable! I can’t get my hands on it!"
Lu Yuan instructed Qing Shuang, "Go fetch it."
Lady Yan’s body trembled slightly—How do you even have that?!
Lady Yan’s eyes roved the room and landed on a small figure hiding behind the doorframe, eavesdropping. She pointed at the little one and said, "I’ll help you save this person, but you must lend me that little one to play with for two days!"
Lu Yuan replied, "Three days, consider the extra day a bonus."
The trembling Treasure Piggy: "...!!"
