Chapter 51: nervous

Damon’s fingers lightly traced the smooth curves of Alexander’s chest, quite unsure of how long they had been lying there beneath the wide tree canopy.

His eyes were closed and a small smile curled on his lips as a thought crossed his mind.

Damon was happy and he wanted to stay in the moment forever.

"I wish we could stay here." He voiced his thoughts and Alexander shifted slightly so that he could look at him.

"Me too." He smiled brightly as his arms pulled Damon closer to his body.

The warmth of Damon’s body, steady and solid beside him was momentarily enough to make him forget about what lay ahead.

He was scared for the man he loved and as the time to leave for his quest drew closer, Alexander’s fear intensified because he knew that he couldn’t afford to lose Damon.

Alexander gulped softly to divert his mind from his thoughts as his fingers reached for a few strands of Damon’s hair.

What mattered was that Damon was here with him and he was going to do whatever it took to save him.

"Alex?" Damon murmured.

"Yes, love." Alexander replied as he stroked Damon’s luxurious silver hair.

"What will you do when find Silas?" Damon asked, his voice laced with curiosity.

Alexander had thought of several ways in which he could torture Silas for hurting Damon but he knew the man beside him couldn’t agree with him because he was the kind that only approved of violence if it was the last resort and his ideas were quite the opposite.

"What could you suggest?" Alexander asked.

"You could negotiate with him. Offer him a deal he can’t reject." Damon replied and Alexander’s lips curled into a small smile at the realization that he knew Damon so well.

"What are you smiling about?" Damon inquired as his curious ocean blue eyes met Alexander’s.

"You. I just love you so much." He chuckled and Damon leaned in and placed a kiss on his lips.

"I love you more." He grinned and Alexander’s heart melted. He could never tire of hearing Damon say he loved him.

"Damon?" Alexander murmured as he snuggled closer to the man in his arms.

"Yes."

"Do you think we should tell Aya about our relationship?" Alexander asked, unconsciously holding his breath as he waited for Damon to reply.

"I am fine if you want to tell her but I think we should tell your mom before we do." Damon shuddered briefly as an image of Nadine glaring at him flashed through his mind.

He was still quite sure his boyfriend’s mother blamed him for turning her son gay.

Well, he couldn’t blame her, he was quite irresistible after all...

"Does she really scare you that much?" Alexander smirked and Damon’s eyes widened slightly in mock surprise as they met his.

"You have no idea." Damon groaned and Alexander couldn’t help the roar of laughter that escaped his lips.

Damon smiled, glad that they could find humor in the most odd places.

"I had never thought my mother the really scary type." Alexander admitted as his laughter died out.

"Well, have you ever received one of her razor sharp glares? Damon asked and Alexander grimaced slightly.

"Oh, yes. She can be quite intimidating." He admitted as he recalled the mischievous parts of his childhood.

Damon’s brow quirked up in disbelief.

"Fine. Intimidating is an understatement. My mom can be down right terrifying but I hope you know it comes from a good place." Alexander said and Damon gave him a small understanding smile.

"I know. She clearly loves you and I respect her for that." Damon replied and Alexander couldn’t help the loopy grin that was plastered on his lips as he hugged Damon and stared up at the tree canopy.

How had he gotten so lucky in love?

"So, I am guessing we are going to ask your mom for her permission to tell Aya?" Damon asked.

"I’ll do it. By the way, since my family is going to know about us, do you think we should tell yours as well?" Alexander asked and Damon was thoughtfully silent.

His mother was going to be surprised, his dad was going to be shocked and he wasn’t really sure how his siblings were going to react.

He was nervous but after seeing how Alexander had stood up for him and told his mother about them, Damon figured he could muster up enough courage to do the same for him.

This man did not deserve to be hidden. He deserved to be displayed and appreciated and Damon planned on doing that.

"I think that is a good idea. We shall tell them when we get back to the castle." Damon replied, his head that was on Alexander’s chest picking on his erratic heartbeat.

"Hey, your heart’s racing." Damon pointed out and Alexander let out a small shaky sigh.

"That is because I am so nervous. Do you think they will like me. Will they accept our relationship?" He asked and Damon placed a kiss on his forehead.

"You are an amazing man and I think they would like you. They will be a little surprised at first but they will come around. I know my family and trust me, everything will turn out well." Damon assured him and Alexander closed his eyes in relief.

"Thanks, I really needed to hear that." He whispered and Damon smiled.

"Your welcome and I meant every word. You are awesome and I love you." Damon said.

"I think I love you more." Alexander replied, his voice quite emotional.

"That’s up for debate but alright." Damon replied, quite certain that he loved this man with his entire being.

The evening sky had started to darken by the time they left and Damon wished they could stay in Alexander’s home village for a while but they were leaving for the castle in a couple of days. He had come to enjoy the whole serenity of their surroundings and he knew coming to terms with the fact that he had to leave wasn’t going to come easy .

For the first time in years, Damon had found himself momentarily free from any loyal obligation and duty and he felt a little selfish for wanting to stay away from his life that was the crown but he knew he couldn’t stay.

He had to get back home to his family.

A small sigh escaped his lips as he tried to put his thoughts aside and focus on the man that was walking beside him.

"Hey, are you alright?" Alexander asked as he stopped walking and glanced down at the man that was at his side.
