Crown Of Hearts
Chapter 24: Are you jealous?

Chapter 24: Are you jealous?

"Fine, I have stopped. I don’t want my fine face getting bruised." Damon replied cheekily, really wishing to continue teasing his friend.

Growing up with siblings like Daphne and Davina had clearly rubbed off on him.

Alexander was still surprised at how this man had casually threatened Damon.

They must be really close.

He thought and again, his jealousy burned.

Had they...?

He let the thought trail off into oblivion as he consoled himself that whatever past relationships Damon had were in the past.

There was no need to get jealous and worry but the thought sounded doubtful as he carefully took in Eamon’s appearance.

This man was good looking.

Eamon tried to ignore the sudden faint glare he was getting from Alexander.

"I will be on my way then, see you later." Eamon smiled faintly at both of them and turned to leave.

Once he was out of sight, Alexander turned to face Damon.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked and Damon nodded.

"You don’t need to ask." Damon replied and Alexander smiled faintly.

"Have you and Eamon... slept together?" He asked, his voice a low yet stern whisper that caused Damon to chuckle.

"Are you jealous?" Damon asked and Alexander’s cheeks flushed.

"Yes. I am very jealous Damon. Now, tell me..." Alexander blurted out, surprising and amusing Damon at his possessiveness.

Damon was loving this new side of Alexander.

"No, our relationship is purely platonic." Damon assured and relief swept through Alexander’s body.

"I like this new side of you." Damon admitted with a wink as his hand that was around Alexander’s shoulder pulled him closer.

"Oh...shut up." Alexander groaned as Damon grinned and continued to tease him for the rest of the afternoon.

As the evening approached, Damon and Alexander finished their walk and paid a visit to the physician that had suggested the physical therapy.

Alexander’s wounds were looking better than they had the previous day and the old man assured he could be fully healed within two weeks.

"You should apply this paste to the wounds, twice or thrice daily for faster results." The physician said, giving Alexander a small container that contained a balm.

"I will, thank you." He replied and once they were outside, Damon took the container from him.

Alexander looked at him, the silent question clear his eyes.

"I will be helping you to apply it." Damon declared and Alexander’s face burned.

The idea of having this man’s fingers trailing over his back gave him shivers.

He considered it quite intimate.

"Damon I can..." He opened his mouth to say something but Damon was quick to cut him off.

"No, you cannot effectively apply the paste on your own. Don’t you want my help, Alexander?" Damon asked, feigning a hurt expression that made Alexander blink.

There was no way he could say no to Damon, especially not when he was looking at him like that.

He sighed softly, accepting his defeat.

"Okay, you can do it." He relented and Damon smiled, clearly pleased as he led him back to his room.

After he had settled Alexander into his room, Damon went out for a stroll, numerous thoughts clouding his mind.

He needed to think and clear his head and a bench in the gardens, beside a flowing fountain was an ideal spot.

The sun was beginning to set and the cool evening breeze helped Damon relax a little as he threw his head back and closed his eyes.

He was slowly dying and the thought had troubled him for days now.

Damon didn’t want to go just yet, his life had become more fulfilling. He had Alexander, his family and a few friends that he did not want to leave behind.

In two months, he could turn twenty five and now more than ever, Damon was actually scared.

He had thought he made his peace with his impending doom but reality shuddered the façade.

His eyes flew open at the realization that he had to tell Alexander about this. Damon cared for him and wanted to be the one to tell him of his situation.

This was all depressing and Damon didn’t want to think about it but now that he had let someone in, the thought of leaving them was unbearable.

A presence at his side saved him from his torturous thoughts.

"Eamon?" Damon called out, surprised.

"I have been looking for you. We need to talk." Eamon said and Damon moved aside to create space for him to sit.

"About what? Valerion?" Damon asked, his mood instantly brightening as he prepared to tease his friend.

Eamon saw right through his plans.

"Don’t even think about it." He warned and Damon pouted.

"You are boring." He complained and Eamon shrugged, not really wishing to have this argument with Damon. He wanted his peace of mind intact.

"Yes, it’s about Valerion. I have a plan that could help the kingdom." Eamon admitted and Damon’s interest was hooked.

"Tell me more." He requested.

"Since I am his mate, I could find a way to convince him to stop dragon attacks on human settlements. He is the most powerful dragon in existence after all." Eamon reasoned.

"But he is not the dragon king." Damon pointed out and his companion was thoughtfully silent.

"He could still have influence in the dragon kingdom." Eamon added.

"Maybe...but the king certainly still has more power over desions made. What’s your plan?" Damon asked.

"I could plot for him to escape and since I am his mate, he will take me with him." Eamon explained.

"That’s risky." Damon noted the obvious. Letting a strong fire breathing creature free could possibly cause alot of damage and Eamon might get hurt in process.

"I know but isn’t it worth the risk. Thousands of our people are still suffering from the unending terror caused by dragons. The least I can do is try to put an end to this." Eamon explained and Damon smiled painfully. This man had always been like this.

Willing to put other people’s needs before his own to an annoying degree.

Eamon was a selfless matryr and he couldn’t say much to change his mind.

"Just don’t die trying to save humanity. I don’t want to lose my closest friend." Damon joked lightly, trying to be supportive of his friend’s choices.

"I am not dying anytime soon. You are still stuck with me." Eamon smiled, bringing his hand to raffle Damon’s hair, an action that always irritated him.

"I told you to stop touching my hair!" Damon shrieked as he returned the action, roughly messing up Eamon’s hair.

"You are childish." Eamon commented as he fixed his hair. Damon glared at him.

"Not more than you." He retorted and Eamon grinned, not denying the accusation.

"So, are you okay with me executing this plan?" Eamon asked.

"I will have to consult with my father. He is the king and he needs to know about this. I will get in touch once I have a reply." Damon assured and Eamon smiled faintly.

He intended to use Valerion and for some reason, that ate at his conscience.

Why did he feel like a bad person?
