Chapter 63: Chapter 21 Audience and Settlement Rewards_3

In the middle of the borders of the other three villages, was a mountain forest marked with two circles, each labeled with a name – one was Charles and the other Big Cow, apparently belonging to the wild forces within that forest.

Gao Xin, through memory comparison, quickly found the beach where he had landed at the southernmost end of the forest.

It turned out that the place where this batch of newcomers had landed was at the wilderness at the junction of the three villages. If only they had run immediately, and to the east, they could have entered Lin family village’s sphere of influence not far away.

"Perhaps I really could have escaped then."

Gao Xin wondered if the arrangement of such a delivery location was deliberately chosen by Major Adams. No wonder, despite Yamaguchi Village also being by the sea, they had not been delivered directly to the village entrance...

He recalled hearing conversations among the Japanese, Adams had a good relationship with the people of Lin family village and had targeted the Yakuza several times.

Perhaps the newcomers really could have escaped then, maybe even the accelerative warships sent ahead were part of Adams’ play acting... To give these newcomers a chance to be taken in by Lin family village, even though he was receiving money from the Japanese.

Thinking this, they really did indirectly trap Luo Yan.

Yet Luo Yan hadn’t done anything wrong... This guy, could he be some kind of jinx?

Gao Xin curled his lips, put away the map, and casually pocketed the watch and small trinkets as well.

Then he quickly went to feel up the bearded man, who was more severely injured, still dazed in consciousness.

He had a wallet on him, but found no redemption tickets, just a bunch of membership cards...

From water tea houses, soup houses, to geisha houses...

My, he must be a regular in this village, huh?

The redemption tickets must have been all spent before he decided to join the game.

"Is there nothing good at all?"

Gao Xin searched carefully, but unfortunately found nothing valuable; the bearded man had squandered his fortune – likely all he had left was that battle-axe.

Right there and then, he dragged the battle-axe in one hand and the bearded man with the other, back to the hall.

The bearded man had to be killed, but his identity had to be changed first.

Gao Xin went to find some rope, tied it to a column on the second floor, and arranged it according to the method Meimei had mentioned before, utilizing a heavy object to pull open the collar.

Soon enough, he had switched the bearded man to a rat collar and without saying a word, hacked him again.

As for Silver Hand’s body, Gao Xin checked it over but could only sigh.

Silver Hand’s clothes had burned off long ago, his body completely bare, and any drugs would have been consumed long before, while those silver gloves were peppered with holes and twisted into scrap metal.

This guy ended up being the poorest of them all.

Checking the time, still half an hour left, Gao Xin went to search through other rooms, not sparing any of the attic boxes.

In the end, he also visited the hidden area beneath the tree, which had a narrow staircase leading down to a spacious dark room.

Lit by fire, Gao Xin saw a large array of what might be mechanical nozzles, some of which were clearly laser emitters.

As for the floor, it was covered with many patterns, some of rats and others of cats and dogs, each quite large – a single pattern ample enough for 20 people to stand upon.

Gao Xin took a closer look and noticed the patterns on the floor would suddenly change, one moment blank, the next showing a different animal, and he couldn’t discern any pattern yet.

At most... the rat patterns appeared up to 20 times, the cat pattern at most once, and the dog pattern up to three times.

Less is possible, more is not – clearly following the earlier mentioned game limits.

"I get it, this must be the battleground for the mainstream routes, right?"

"Entering an area indicated by a pattern not belonging to one’s own identity triggers a trap? Rats using this to compete with cats?"

"And with the cat pattern appearing only one at a time, or not at all, this place is perilous for cats."

"Even if a cat comes in, it cannot penetrate deep, just as facing a rat’s nest."

Gao Xin thought to himself that the bald man had found this early on but had hidden the fact. However, it wasn’t always people like the bald man who discovered this place, so normally this should be the battlefield.

"But if a cat really wants to kill, there are plenty of ways, like smoking or long-range attacks."

"And if the exit is well-guarded, then what?"

Murmuring, Gao Xin suddenly noticed a recess at the end of the room that could be a passage.

To reach there, one faces numerous dangers, for the closer one gets, the faster the patterns change, likely keeping even rats at bay.

"A path to other exits?"

Thinking this through, Gao Xin impulsively took a few steps forward, stepping on a rat pattern to get a closer look.

Just then, the rat pattern beneath his feet suddenly changed to a cat.

Gao Xin, startled, quickly retreated back up the stairs.

Fortunately, nothing happened, and he touched his neck, "Is it because I’m also a cat?"

"But just now, if the pattern had changed to a dog, I probably would have been attacked by a trap, right? Maybe not instantly killed, but likely severely maimed."

"Too dangerous, the changes seem utterly random, no wonder the bald man also just stood by the stairs without venturing further."

Gao Xin trembled with residual fear; he had already ensured his survival and earned quite a reward.

If in the last moments of exploring here, he accidentally died in this secret room, then that would truly be a regretful death.

"But now that I’m confirmed as multi-identity..."

Without hesitation, Gao Xin dashed out of the secret room, rushed back to the hall, and picked up a dog collar.
