Chapter 123: Chapter 49: Outmaneuvering the Entire Army
The fifth round, the invitation from the black side was delayed in coming.
Clearly, something had caused a holdup.
Regardless, there was a ten-minute editing window, and an incident such as this would surely require time for the other side to recuperate, unwilling to finish this round so quickly.
Conveniently, during this time, they could also quiz the ten newly joined NPCs.
Teach them the yin-yang mechanics of all things and the responses and priorities for various options, a rapid cramming session. After all, the invitation was a test of tacit understanding, the more people involved, the harder it was to be unanimous.
Dongfang Yi lay prone at the window, wanting to see what was happening on the other side.
But he couldn’t see clearly, only knowing that two people stood on either side of a round table, possibly facing off.
"It seems like it’s only Sofia and Louis left opposite us, right? Perfectly black and white! That’s great."
However, Gao Xin shook his head, "What’s so great? The best scenario would be if only one survived."
"The fact that there’s precisely one black and one white left could spell trouble."
"If the two of them join forces, they could thwart any attempts to defect by either the black side or the white side."
Dongfang Yi smiled, "What’s there to fear? Both of them are not from the same faction, they’re bound to fight each other."
"Even if they don’t manage to determine a victor right away, they can’t win now. Without a Glass Person, their defense is zero, and mutual restraint might even prevent them from daring to fight."
"Now, it’s like they’re raising gu, and eventually, only one can live."
Dongfang Yi’s lips curled up confidently.
Gao Xin, however, had a solemn expression, "I hope so."
"Don’t underestimate the last two players; we caught them off guard by hiding in the shadows and striking unexpectedly."
"Now that they’ve suffered heavy losses and have felt the threat to their lives, coupled with deep hatred, they might truly band together, devoting all their thoughts to opposing us."
"Dongfang Yi, don’t be careless. We must consider the worst-case scenario."
Dongfang Yi frowned, "I know the worst-case scenario you’re talking about, but how can they unite?"
"Take the matter of going into battle, for instance. Who would dare to come out, not fearing being stabbed in the back?"
Gao Xin said solemnly, "If it were me, I wouldn’t fear it, and I would find every way to keep the other party alive."
"Because their lives are ultimately tied together."
"If one dies, the other can hardly survive alone, and we will fully control the initiative."
Dongfang Yi nodded, "I understand what you mean."
"But do they dare to take that bet? It requires mutual trust between the two, and if one party is even slightly short-sighted, the talks will surely fail."
"Since you’re concerned, let’s give them a push."
"Let Xing Shiping connect with Louis now and tell him that next, we on the white side will attack with full force, and if he kills Sofia, we can survive together."
Gao Xin immediately raised his hand, "No, don’t say those things; it could backfire."
"Let them figure it out on their own; we say nothing, we do nothing... Only then can we put the greatest pressure on them."
"If Louis truly wants to defect, he will contact us on his own."
Time passed by the minute.
Finally, after nearly ten minutes of waiting, just as time was about to run out, they received the invitation.
"They actually didn’t fight?" Dongfang Yi’s expression also grew grave.
Gao Xin waved his hand, "Let’s vote first."
Everyone moved to the voting booths and soon saw the content of the invitation.
This time, it was longer than all the others: "To those in the base over there, Sofia and I will devote our full efforts to completing this invitation, and we will no longer cast any sedition votes."
"Whether there are any black or white players left among you, let this be the ultimate distribution."
"We will continue the tacit duel until one base runs out of blood!"
"At the end of the game, whether Sofia or I will be targeted for death, along with all the blacks, or all the whites among you."
"So, let’s fight to the death. Ultimately, it will be up to every individual to determine who wins and loses, lives and dies, between black and white."
Such a lengthy invitation was tantamount to a declaration of war.
It spelled out Louis’s stance in his tone.
He was committing to completing the invitation with all his might, and expressly refusing to cast seditious votes.
This effectively locked down the ’faction allocation’.
With the two sides continuing to attack until the end of the game, while certainly one of Louis or Sofia had to die, it could also cause a bunch of their people to go down with them.
The chances of the white side losing were high, as only two health points remained.
And on this side, the entire Gao Xin team, along with three people from Xing Shiping’s team, were still white identities.
So, this invitation, written in Louis’s voice declaring war, was perfect for saying ’Even though I die, I’ll take you with me.’
"Well played... "
"They actually... kept their composure."
Gao Xin lamented, as the situation had fallen to its worst.
The other side hadn’t engaged in mutual killing; instead, they had chosen to wait calmly and play the card of betting on their numerous, disorganized votes.
He then looked at the options, which were reduced to the simplest of words.
"I am black, and I want to eliminate everyone."
"I am white, and I want to eliminate everyone."
"I am black, and I want to eliminate all white."
"I am white, and I want to eliminate all black."
"I am black, and I want to eliminate all black."
"I am white, and I want to eliminate all white."
Six options outlined, laying out every possible combination of the two factions’ identities.
This was hinting to their side to think carefully about their true identity.
In the ’faction locked’ situation, everyone’s identity was set; ending the game this way would certainly bring death to many.
Think hard about how to play, think hard about whether to let all of black die or all of white die.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk..." Gao Xin sighed.
Then he chose ’I am white, kill all the white.’
He completely disregarded what the invitation said and voted according to the pre-arranged concept of yin and yang.
White represents yang. This option had two whites, it was the most yang out of all the choices; of course, he chose it.
"The votes are inconsistent; choose a Gladiator within three minutes, it can only be a Glass Person." A prompt sounded.
Gao Xin’s face grew solemn.
This round, he could not make a mistake.
And he shouldn’t! The method of distinguishing between yin and yang had already been taught.
All the questions that needed to be bet on had been placed; even if the other side had some tricky options, the color was a mandatory bet!
There was no reason to choose wrong, white was also the color that best represented yang!
He walked out of the voting room, and the others also came out successively.
They saw that Dongfang Yi, Qiao Long, Xing Shiping, and others also had ugly expressions on their faces.
Su Lei shouted, "How could anyone get this wrong? We were supposed to pick white, white!"
"Didn’t we decide on this topic?"
Everyone looked at each other, without a doubt, someone had deliberately voted incorrectly this round!
"Who is it! Who didn’t choose double white!" Dongfang Yi stared fiercely at the batch of NPCs they had saved.
"This round, there was no way to mess up, someone definitely wanted the white team to die on purpose!"
"So, the person who voted wrong must be one of you with a black identity!"
Xing Shiping and the man with a square face were both identified with the black identity.
Plus the ten NPCs, who were all members of the black team.
The NPCs panicked, frantically waving their hands: "Uh-uh-uh!"
Xing Shiping and the others all declared they had voted double white and had not betrayed anyone.
Gao Xin fixed his gaze on everyone’s eyes and expressions, finally focusing on two NPCs.
His eyes shifted back and forth between the two, making them very nervous.
Gao Xin was almost certain that it was these two who had voted wrong.
The presumption that NPCs would follow orders was based on their desire to live; they would follow whoever could keep them alive.
So when Gao Xin saved them, these people were overwhelmingly grateful and would naturally obey because Gao Xin would keep them alive.
But, as the ’camps locked in,’ and with Louis being white and making his position clear,
The situation had changed.
For NPCs, survival had become a matter of personal choice.
White was down to two drops of blood, and being black, all it took was two wrong votes to win and survive.
If anyone lost their head over this thought, they would deliberately vote incorrectly.
Meimei urgently confronted the man with a square face: "Was it you? Did you vote wrong and now you’re not admitting it?"
The man with a square face’s complexion turned red: "No! I chose double white."
Several people argued, all looking wronged, unable to determine who the betrayer was.
For a moment, their alliance, once unbreakable, suddenly filled with suspicion.
"The other side is keeping their cool, huh?"
"Those two Radiation members realized that we must have kept black players because we would definitely prefer to win with a black identity."
"They deliberately said that, trying to tear apart our alliance, causing us to doubt and deal with... traitors."
As Gao Xin spoke the word ’traitor,’ he stared directly at those two NPCs.
Staring so hard their scalps tingled, goosebumps rose, and they were nearly unable to stop themselves from kneeling.
Dongfang Yi said threateningly, "This is forcing us to wipe out all you blacks."
"The safest choice would have been to kill all the NPCs after bringing them back."
"It’s because we wanted to keep you all alive that we left you to vote... but if you won’t obey, then go to hell."
Gao Xin grabbed him, "Shut up! Don’t say things that are harmful to unity."
"Killing them all is just avoiding the problem, not solving it."
Dongfang Yi narrowed his eyes; indeed, there was still Xing Shiping’s squad to consider.
It contained two black players, and his earlier suggestion of killing all the blacks was not conducive to unity.
If they really killed all the NPCs, or even just one, the others would panic, creating a hidden danger.
Logically, killing one was no different from killing ten; they shouldn’t kill any, or they must not spare a single one.
Dongfang Yi’s voice grew stern: "It seems like only Xing Shiping, the man with a square face, and that curly-haired boy have undergone enhancement, classifying as elite Glass People... "
His words were clear, suggesting they might as well go the whole hog and eliminate Xing Shiping’s squad too.
Then there would be only the five of them left, ensuring unity and cooperation.
"Better kill them all than have a mole among us."
Gao Xin pushed Dongfang Yi away, furious, "I told you to shut up, didn’t you hear me?"
"Again, don’t talk if it’s not conducive to unity."
"You call me boss Gao, so do you listen to me or not?"
Dongfang Yi looked at Gao Xin in surprise but still bit back, "I listen!"
Gao Xin let him go and swept his gaze over everyone, his eyes resolute.
"Now, let me lay it out for you, from the moment white lost the first drop of blood in this game..."
"My only goal has been one, to secure victory for the black side!"
"If I can’t achieve that, I’d rather die!"
