Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 55: None of my business?
Chapter 55: None of my business?
His hair was messily resting above his brows and his dark eyes looked exhausted.
Diana could see his signature frown and indifference fixated on his face.
Without giving it a second thought, she cut through the crowd and approached him. She grabbed his hand.
Maxim’s face relaxed when he saw her.
Diana glared at him, "Come with me,’’ she ignored the exclusive whining background music of the girls as she dragged him away from the crowd.
Diana did not stop walking until they were in an empty classroom.
She locked the door and checked around, ’’What are you up to?" she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
’’What do you mean?" Maxim blinked.
’’Don’t ’what do you mean’ me, Warner. What. Are. You. Up. To?’’ She enunciated each word.
Diana felt like her blood pressure was bubbling up just by his presence.
When he still did not respond to her, she stepped towards him, ’’You left my place the day before yesterday but you didn’t go back to your home. Care to tell me what’s up?"
His face hardened, proving to her that her worries were not unnecessary.
’’It’s none of your business,’’ he spat.
’’It’s very much my business because Auntie thinks you were at my place but you weren’t and now here you are, showing up and being hoarded by fangirls. What were you up to?" Diana could not hide the worry in her voice this time.
Was he doing drugs? Although he sometimes looked like a beautiful vampire but she passed it off as him working and studying all the time. Was it the aftereffects of drugs?
Was it girlfriend issues? Diana pursed her lips at the thoughts, ’’Let me ask you. Is it drugs? Have you turned into an alcoholic? Or is it women related? Do you perhaps... have a... a girlfriend?" she cleared her throat, ’’You are scaring us.’’
But it was as if her concerns went parallel to his stubborn head because he just turned around to leave.
Diana grabbed his T-shirt on instinct. The black T-shirt was stretched back, revealing purplish marks on his back.
’’What the heck!’’ Diana found herself blurting the same words he had blurted when he saw her shoulder wounds, ’’What’s going on?"
’’As I said, it’s none of your business,’’ He said, calmly this time, ’’Stay out of it,’’ he left her alone in the room.
Diana narrowed her eyes.
3 weeks later.
’’Young Miss, are you going to go back to Madam’s birthday party?" Aunty Zhang asked her while serving her breakfast.
’’Of course, she is my mom,’’ Diana looked at the kind smile on Aunty Zhang’s face that used to make her feel warm back at some time.
’’I am so happy for you. How is it going on with studies?"
’’It’s good,’’ Diana mumbled, picking the omelet with her fork. If it was in the past, she might have told the woman about her and Maxim’s issues.
She felt silly for trusting people her mother kept by her side. But then, the woman has been kind to her since she was young. Diana never knew she was feeding off getting her in trouble.
If not for Daisy, she would never have known it either because she trusted her.
Diana sighed. Her short-tempered sister blocked her number after their last fight.
And her bad-tempered friend was on bad terms with her after their last encounter.
In the past few days, Diana noticed that Maxim looked paler than before.
He attended the first three classes and left during the last one lately and since their last argument, they have not been on talking terms.
While he approached her a few times for what she believed was a possible reconciliation, she ignored him like an arrogant prick that she was not.
She knew she was being unreasonable but she could not help but be upset.
She had never been half as upset for herself as upset as she was for him. Who the heck dared to do that to him?
Diana walked out of her apartment. As the driver opened the car door for her, she observed the man quietly for a few seconds, ’’Robin, right?"
’’Yes, Young Miss.’’
The man was not just her driver, he was her bodyguard too. Her father left her at her side.
The funny thing, she was never harmed by outsiders so his bodyguard side was never needed. He was her driver most of the time.
’’Are you around me all the time?" Diana leaned back on the passenger seat.
’’Yes,’’ the man hesitantly said, clearly confused by her eager initiation of the conversation.
After all, he escorted her to the university every day and she barely talked to him before.
’’Then, why don’t I see you? You drive me around but other than that, I never see you. Why is that?"
The man hesitated for a moment before he spoke up, ’’That’s because Master asked me to keep a low profile unless you are in danger.’’
Diana smiled mysteriously, ’’I see...’’
When she went to the classroom, she found a familiar face sitting on her desk.
Maxim tilted his head to look at her as if he could feel her gaze on him.
Diana tilted her head and decided to walk past him.
But before she could walk past the desk, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto the desk.
The classroom was fairly empty because she ended up coming earlier today. She did not expect Maxim to be here in the first place.
She pulled her hand out of his grip, ’’What are you doing?"
Maxim straightened up on the desk and their shoulders brushed against each other. He leaned closer to her as if he was about to say something.
"Oh, are you going to tell me how it is none of my business again?" Diana mocked him, enjoying how his jaws clenched.
He shifted on the seat but before he could leave, she stood up, ’’Don’t bother changing seats. I am not sitting beside you anyway.’’
