Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 297: Not fine
Chapter 297: Not fine
Back in Beijing.
Maxim drove for over 2 hours before they finally reached a hotel.
The journey was drowned in silence with both the people being occupied in their own thoughts.
There were a few times when Diana wanted to say something but looking at Maxim’s icy face, she held herself back in the hopes of being able to articulate her words in such a manner that would help her in the current situation.
Maxim handed the car keys to the valet while they made their way inside the place.
Diana followed Maxim, walking faster to catch up with him.
As the distance between them increased, Maxim paused for a moment before he slowed his footsteps down, letting her catch up to him.
This time, he took smaller steps till they reached the elevator.
Diana noticed it and her lips inadvertently curved up but when his nonchalant gaze flitted towards her face, she stopped smiling.
The hotel staff bowed and retreated after escorting them to the Presidential suite.
Just as Maxim’s hand touched the doorknob, he felt a small tug on the edge of his shirt sleeve.
He paused.
’’Are we not on talking terms?" Diana inhaled a deep breath.
Maxim did not respond to her.
"Are you angry? I thought we were fine because you...’’ seemed calm back in the restaurant...
Diana sighed as she opened her mouth to say the unsaid words, ’’I...Ah...’’
Maxim flipped his hand and caught her wrists, pinning Diana to the door as it opened gradually.
He caged her in his arms.
’’A blind date, is it?"
Diana looked at him helplessly, ’’I had no idea about it.’’
’’But you had every intention to sit through it.’’
’’I...’’ Diana wrapped her arms around his neck as she leaned in closer to him, ’’I just... I spotted the paparazzi there and I did not want to make a scene so I thought...’’
’’You thought you would sit through it and it would be over?" Maxim pulled her into his arms, letting the door close as he locked it behind him.
"Maxim...’’
’’Diana, what do you take me for?"
Diana’s brows tugged together.
’’You think it’s fine for you to sit through a blind date as if I don’t exist?"
Diana’s lips parted, ’’You know it does not mean anything. I was just sitting there for the sake of my family. I was here in the first place to talk to my parents, not to start a fight with them. So, the first thing to do when I come here can’t be dragging their reputation down. I thought even if you come to know about it, you’d be fine with it.’’
Maxim laughed as he released her from his hold, the sound of his chuckle was nothing but sarcastic, ’’Will you be fine with me going on a blind date too?"
His words made her heart drop, the words she was about to say were sent hurling away as she looked at him in disbelief.
But Maxim had turned around, promptly missing the expression on her face, ’’Maybe you would be fine with it,’’ there was a tinge of anger and helplessness in his voice, and something... something akin to insecurity. Never once in her life Diana would have thought that Maxim Warner would feel insecure over something, ’’You would be fucking fine with it it but I am not,’’ he continued.
He did not turn to face her as he spoke.
All the while, he had his back facing towards her.
’’I am not fine. I see you sitting there with some fucker and my heart hurts. It’s not that I did not try to be logical. I did. I knew what it was. I knew why you had to be there. I knew it but it bothers me. The idea of some other man getting admire what’s mine bothers me. Them looking at the smile on your face or catching that look in your eyes when you talk about something you like―it bothers me. It’s unreasonable and...’’
Maxim’s words trailed off when Diana walked to stand in front of him. She looked into his eyes, ’’It’s not.’’
’’What?" he questioned,
"It’s not unreasonable...’’ Diana whispered, ’’...because I would feel the same,’’ She might even feel worse and she would not even be rational enough to talk about it the way he was doing. Just him talking about his non-existent blind date had her frozen for some time.
Before Maxim could respond to her words, Diana pushed herself to her feet and wrapped her arms around his neck tightly as she whispered against his lips, ’’I am sorry,’’ As soon as her words dropped, she leaned in to capture his lips in a soft kiss.
Maxim’s lips parted, eyes widening slightly before he squinted them. His finger went to her head as he raked them in her hair and fisted them tightly before pulling her back.
Diana looked at him, slightly confused and more so turned on by the look in his eyes. Strange that he turned her on just by standing there and looking angry.
’’What...’’ she whispered when he kept gazing at her wordlessly, his eyes darkened.
’’I am sorry is not what I expect from you,’’ his fingers clutched her hair tighter, tilting her head slowly and sending a delectable shiver down her spine.
’’I just...’’ Diana gulped softly, ’’...wanted to apologize.’’
Maxim looked at her quietly, almost as if he was scrutinizing her.
’’I...’’
’’You have better ways to,’’ Maxim cut her off the moment she opened her mouth to speak.
Diana blinked. The look on his face told her that she might know what he was referring to. But she was clueless about what he wanted her to do and if she would be able to do it.
’’Maxim...’’
’’Ana,’’ Maxim leaned closer to her until his lips grazed her ear. He licked her earlobe softly, earning a gasp from her, "You have been a bad girl throughout the day. Will you not be a good girl now?"
Diana’s face flushed as a heat pooled between her legs. Why were his words so simple yet obscene?
And why were such filthy insinuations having such an effect on her?
"Max, I...’’
’’Shh...’’ Maxim grabbed the hem of her dress and pulled it up, ’’Hold this.’’
Diana bit her bottom lips before she slowly reached out to hold her dress.
Maxim released her hand, stepping back from her, ’’Clutch the dress around your waist and get on all fours,’’ his gaze shifted to the king-sized-bed for the fraction of a second before he looked back at her.
A soft feeling slithered down her insides, rendering her immobile for a fraction of second before she pressed her legs together.
She opened her mouth to protest yet her hands moved on their own accord, hoisting her dress higher until her panties were in view.
Maxim’s eyes wandered off to the sight of her black panties that fit her snugly.
Just a slight peek and the dress came cascading down all the way, covering the vision provided to him.
Maxim’s gaze flitted back to her face, a brow arching in question.
Diana gulped softly and stepped back until the back of her knees touched the bed.
She averted her gaze from his face, turned around and climbed on the bed quietly.
With one hand supporting her body on the bed, her other hand went back to lift her dress, bunching it around her waist.
