’’Huh?" he narrowed his eyes slightly but when she looked at him, his face was back to normal as if he was very eager to listen to the conclusion she reached.

His expression made her feel like he was pretty casual about it so she did not need to stress about it anymore.

That was what she wanted. She had wanted them to be pretty normal after everything that took place between them. And Maxim seemed to be complying with her needs but she felt like something was amiss with her.

She closed her eyes and shook her head.

Unable to take the distance between them anymore, Maxim wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him.

She squealed, surprised by his sudden movement.

He buried his face in her arms, his lips grazing over her collarbone as he spoke, ’’What’s wrong?"

Her toes curled as he spoke in his deep voice, his warm breath tickling her skin, ’’Nothing, I was thinking about the rules...’’

Diana felt like she was too naive for suggesting a one-night stand before. She wanted to sleep with him and it was true but only now did she realize that once was not nearly enough at all.

Her body was reacting to every word he uttered and every breath that grazed her skin. She was inflammable under his gaze and touch.

As his lips grazed up to her neck, her chest heaved up and down.

Diana placed a palm on his shoulder, gently pushing him away.

He looked at her with an innocent gaze.

’’Okay,’’ Maxim’s arm freed her waist as he moved to the side, keeping ample distance between them.

He looked like he was waiting for her to speak.

The lack of his warmth left her immobile for a few moments.

Diana wanted to drive herself back into his arms the moment he moved away.

The corner of her lips twitched. Would he think of her as frivolous if she did that?

In the end, she stayed put on her side of the bed and glanced at him, ’’Let’s keep it low.’’

He did not respond to her.

’’At work, we should stay professional. Off the work, we should stay normal... as we usually do.’’

The moment her words dropped, he seemed to fall into contemplation. When she thought it would take him an eternity to say something, she heard him speak, ’’What you are suggesting is... a secret affair?"

’’We are not being immoral. You don’t have a wife. I don’t have a husband. What are you implying by an ’affair’?" she was speechless.

’’What you said sounded similar,’’ Maxim said in a disinterested tone.

Diana was irked, ’’I mean we should not let our friends get a clue about this,’’ They were not in a relationship or anything as such, and in the future, they were always going to be around each other. So, it was best to not make it awkward by letting their friends know about it.

Daisy mentioned commitments and whatnot and even asked her to wait for Maxim to figure out stuff. But Diana felt like Maxim had nothing to figure out except for the reason why he kept rejecting her. They were fine just the way they are now. Daisy is more old school than her so Diana was worried she would not take this well if she knew the kind of relationship they have now.

Maxim naturally understood what she was implying, ’’I don’t go around talking about my sex life in public,’’ he deadpanned.

She was about to retort with ’Not like I announce it to the world’ until she realized that she did not have a sex life before this night. So she stayed put quietly, ’’You agree to my condition?"

He looked at her quietly for a moment before nodding.

’’No sleepovers...’’ she said her second condition after giving it a thought.

He quirked a brow, waiting for her to explain.

Getting the clue, she started speaking, ’’Regardless of where we have sex, we should part ways after that instead of sleeping over at each other’s place,’’ she gave it a thought before nodding, ’’Lest this deal becomes messy.’’

His eyes narrowed briefly but when she turned her attention to him, he nodded amicably.

Diana was satisfied, ’’And my last rule... If one of us is interested in someone else in the future or if we find someone we love, then we must tell each other before calling this off, alright?"

Although she said it, those words were only meant for him, not for her. She did not have things like love, relationships, or marriage on her bucket list. She did not want to be restricted by any kind of bond in her life anymore.

Maybe, in the future, she would want to have a child. Maybe. But not a man.

Diana was pretty certain about it ever since she was a teenager so there was no further consideration required.

As for Maxim, she did not want him to be too pressured. If he found someone in the future, all she wanted was for him to tell her about it and they would call their deal off...

Her brows tugged together instinctively when she thought about it.

Maxim’s eyes darkened when he heard her words but he regained his composure within a second, ’’Alright.’’

Diana snapped out of her daze and looked at him suspiciously, ’’You have nothing to add?"
