Chapter 133: You find him good-looking?
’’Let me carry the basket,’’ she reached out.
He stared at her, ’’No.’’
Diana speechlessly dropped her hand.
’’Why are you standing here?"
’’Waiting for you,’’ Diana said without thinking much but when silence descended around them, she realized that her words sounded weird, ’’...To ring the doorbell,’’ she added.
Maxim chuckled, and it felt like someone tickled her with a feather.
She looked at him through her lashes. When she left the hospital in a cab yesterday, she was determined to not sit in his car or be in his presence for the time being until their thoughts were sorted. But she did not see this lunch invitation coming.
Diana snapped out of her thoughts when the door opened.
She did not notice when Maxim rang the doorbell but the person who opened the door was Logan whom she had not seen since the last time when he escorted Hazel back to her place.
He looked just as broody as usual. Sometimes she was curious about him...
’’What are you looking at?" Maxim’s words broke the trail of her thoughts just as Logan turned around and walked inside the mansion. When she did not respond, he added, ’’You find him good-looking?"
’’He is good-looking,’’ she said after some thought, ’’Seems like a fictional man to me.’’
With a dreamy sigh, she walked past him and entered the mansion.
Maxim frowned. When he followed her inside, he stopped near Logan who was reading a magazine.
The man tilted his head, ’’What?" Logan asked under Maxim’s piercing stare.
’’Instead of working for me, you should try modeling,’’ Maxim placed Angel’s basket on the coffee table, looking at Diana who was lurking on the other side of the living room and peeking around curiously.
’’I can be a bomb in that field,’’ Logan placed the magazine down as he stroked his chin, ’’A pity that I want to stay low profile.’’
"_"
’’You...’’ the corner of Maxim’s lips twitched.
...
’’I am so happy that you made it today,’’ Hazel held Diana in a crushing hug.
Diana was a bit speechless. Since Maxim took a day off, she had nothing to do as his assistant.
So, coming here almost seemed like a conspiracy theory between the mother and son duo but she knew it was impossible. Hazel was a sweet and innocent person. And secondly, she had no reason for tricking her into coming here.
’’How have you been?" Diana hugged her back before breaking the hug.
’’As fresh as a flower,’’ Hazel smiled and glanced at her son.
Feeling her gaze, Maxim made his way towards her, ’’Mom,’’ he greeted.
The woman kissed Angel’s head before looking at him with a frown.
Maxim was no sage but he could decipher that look on her face when she looked at him and then at Diana—’Are you both dating yet? When will you get married? What about the kids?...’ and that look just went on.
His lips thinned.
Luckily, Diana did not notice their exchange of looks because she was busy marveling at the beautiful villa. It was not very grand like some castle. It felt cozy yet elegant in its own way, ’’This place is so beautiful,’’ she could not help but marvel.
’’Don’t worry. If you like it, I can give it to you as a betrothal gift,’’ Hazel said without thinking much.
Maxim closed his eyes.
Diana started nodding but her nod paused midway and her lips parted in disbelief, ’’What?" Betrothal gift?
’’Wedding gift,’’ Maxim said with a straight face.
’’I see,’’ she nodded. In their customs, betrothal gifts referred to the gifts given to the bride by their in-laws.
At this moment, the doorbell rang once again.
Logan was about to go to open the door when Hazel stopped him and went over.
Diana was curious. Was someone else joining them too?
She had invited Ivy but the girl had sunk herself in her laptop. She said something about having a lot of work she had to finish before she went on the date she had later that night.
The door opened and Qin Xifeng stepped inside, smiling and laughing with Hazel. From afar, they almost looked like a father and daughter by the way they were interacting.
But from the corner of her eyes, Diana noticed a small movement. The magazine in Logan’s hand fell to the coffee table and he seemed slightly unsettled.
Diana blinked.
Logan did not seem like the kind of person who liked to be surrounded by people. Was he feeling uncomfortable here?
She glanced at Maxim and he seemed to have noticed Logan’s weird behavior too.
"Is he feeling unwell?" she leaned closer to him to whisper.
’’How would I know?" he narrowed his eyes at her.
’’You must have known him for a long time. How could you not know?" Since the day she had met Logan, he had always appeared aloof except for his constant frustration with Ivy. This much of a reaction seemed foreign coming from him.
’’Are you worried about him?" Maxim turned his body towards her.
’’Yes," Diana frowned. Why was he acting so strange? What’s wrong with basic concern for another human?
’’Maxim,’’ Old Master Qin slapped Maxim’s back in enthusiasm.
The loud sound of it had Diana’s face shriveling.
When the old man looked at her, she remembered that he had asked her to keep it a secret that she knew him when he hired her. So keeping that in mind, she bowed respectfully, ’’Director Qin.’’
’’What director? Address me properly, little girl,’’ he seemed displeased.
Diana was speechless when she felt everyone’s gaze on her. She looked at the old man begrudgingly. Who was it who asked her to keep it a secret?
’’They are all like family. What are you worried about?"
"_" Diana wanted to cry. Was he putting her in a spot on purpose by saying this?
Also, he seemed to have already expected her here.
She glanced at Maxim. His gaze did not seem to be questioning but she felt like she broke some code by keeping it a secret from him, ’’Grandpa Qin is my late grandfather’s best friend,’’ she explained, not knowing why she felt this way.
