Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 126: To shut you up
Chapter 126: To shut you up
In the end, she went on a walk after getting changed.
She did not know how far had walked while observing the landscape, looking as a child strutted on the streets while holding both his parents’ hand, glancing at a group of friends being loud in a cafe.
She just kept walking until her footsteps came to a halt in front of a tattoo parlour and she stood in front of it for a long time before she stepped inside.
’A heart.’ she had told the tattoo artist who asked her what kind of design she wanted.
’What kind of heart? Let me show you the designs...’
’Just scribble it. I want a messy heart.’
Just like the mess he had left in her heart.
And while the tattoo artist had looked at her in surprise and curiosity, her 22-year-old self gifted herself the permission to think about the person whom she had not thought about since the day she did not find him in Beijing Medical school he promised to come.
A tattoo. A reminder of their stranded friendship. A warning to draw lines with people in the future. And a reminder of every beautiful memory with him.
Yet, here she was. Barely hanging in there.
She lied to Maxim. Was that tattoo special? It was special. He was special. And anything related to him was special.
Would she tell him? Over her dead body, yes.
Diana glanced at Maxim who was patiently waiting for her to finish her words.
She smiled softly, ’’So, I thought I should do something impulsive for my 22nd birthday. It’s meaningful,’’ she gazed at her tattoo, ’’But pretty much impulsive.’’
And as she leaned back on the pillow and closed her eyes, she did not notice how his face dropped at her words.
’’I know what you did just now...’’ Diana whispered just as Maxim shifted back to his chair from the hospital bed.
Without waiting for his response, she said, ’’You talked about your girlfriend... or not to shift my attention so that I won’t be stubborn about leaving the hospital. Don’t do it, Warner. As thankful as I am for your concern...’’ she opened her eyes and looked at him, ’’It would be a shame if you make me attached to you.’’
’’We decided to get to know each other again,’’ Maxim said indifferently.
’’I know right? But I can be quite clingy. Wouldn’t want that in the early stage of our friendship lest you find me annoying,’’ she mocked.
Maxim’s jaw ticked, ’’At times like this, you make me want to shut you up.’’
’’Really? How would you do that? By sewing my lips. That’s not a good idea,’’ she closed her eyes wih a wave of her hand, ’’Take me back to my sweetheart by 6 am. I am thanking you in advance. Get some sleep.’’
Maxim inhaled a deep breath.
Strangling this woman was a bad idea, wasn’t it?
...
The next morning, Maxim took her back to the mansion to see Angel. Ivy fussed about her health when she heard what happened last night and after coaxing her, they helped each other in packing.
For two grown women, they had less stuff than Angel.
Ivy’s most space occupying stuff were her gadgets and game consoles.
As for her, the shoe collection which failed to fit inside five boxes won.
Despite her asking Maxim to get some sleep, the man stayed awake the whole night or so what the nurse told her in the morning.
On their way back, they had not talked much and he went to sleep as soon as he came back while she took the oppurtunity the call the trucks to move their stuff.
At their new place.
"You should have taken some rest,’’ Ivy said when she saw Diana leaning against the kitchen island and panting.
Diana glanced at Angel who was sitting on the kitchen island and she hugged the girl tighter, ’’I am well rested already.’’
Ivy frowned.
’’Don’t nag,’’ Diana warned the girl. At a tender age of 22, Ivy’s nagging were surely poisonous and once the girl started talking about something, it was hard for her to stop.
Her head felt like it would split already without Ivy’s contribution.
Ivy looked like she was contemplating whether to nag or not but in the end, she sighed, ’’Dee, I feel so exhausted.’’
Diana felt guilty when she looked at her dark circles. From what she remembered, Maxim said that Ivy had something to handle yesterday, ’’You had work yesterday?"
Ivy stiffened. With a hesitant smile, she shook her head, ’’It was my mother’s death anniversary. I planned to visit her in the evening after we picked a suitable place for you but since you chose the place earlier than I estimated, I decided to go there just in case her favorite flowers are sold out.’’
Diana’s back went rigid.
She straightened up and picked Angel from the kitchen island as she looked at Ivy in disbelief, ’’Why didn’t you tell me earlier?" she could not even think of words to say what she was feeling, ’’You... Ivy, this wasn’t even important. You didn’t need to be here just for this small matter. Even if you are worried about us, Warner was here. You...’’
’’It’s fine,’’ Ivy shrugged a shoulder casually, ’’She is dead anyway. And I think it’s fine if I don’t let someone from the past intrude my present. It keeps the balance in check.’’
For once, Ivy did not act like a chatterbox. Her words were crisp and concise and every word made Diana feel upset.
Ivy was barely in her early 20s. Just what could make her say such heartless things about her mother, whom she obviously loved so much? Or else, she would not have cared about her favorite flowers.
Diana never deemed Ivy as a serious girl until that moment. But then, one should never judge a book by it’s cover.
Look at her. When people looked at her, they saw a sunflower. A happy-go-lucky girl who had everything in life. But none of them could have known a sunflower like her bled at nights when no one was looking.
Ivy massaged her shoulders and yawned.
Diana walked towards her and hugged her with one arm.
Ivy stiffened.
’’Go, sleep. I will handle it from here,’’ Diana stepped back from Ivy, patting her head.
Because Ivy was a responsible person who handled things like a pro, Diana usually forgot that she was younger than her.
