Cosmic Paragon
Chapter 44 - 45: Baring his Fangs!

Chapter 44: Chapter 45: Baring his Fangs!

Drake, who looked like he had been in a completely helpless state just a few moments ago, was actually waiting. Earlier when the Armored Alligator had attacked him his hand had been broken in several places.

Such an injury had taken a long time to heal so it was obvious how bad it was. If it were another Mage, their arm would probably have been rendered completely useless for the rest of the survival trial but Drake didn’t need to wait thanks to the healing ability of the Virgo constellation.

The wolves did not know this however, they only knew that his hand had been broken and they turned that weakness into something they could capitalize on to take him down. So Drake waited for his arm to recover. The moment it was healed he purposely made a feint that he had slipped with his footwork to trick the wolf he had identified as the commander of this squadron into attacking.

It took the bait and he killed it.

Now with their commander down the wolves would go crazy and attack like mad to avenge their fallen brethren. If it was any other wolf that had been killed, then the commander wolf could still make the others attack without losing their coordination. But with the commanding officer dead the military could be easily taken care of.

...

The situation turned when the other wolves saw one of their brethren dying they instantly went berserk.

Aowuuuu!

Howls and snarls filled the night as they charged at Drake.

Drake weaved his Katana slashing and stabbing instantly for other wolves had fallen to his blade ant their formation was broken. Before the others could react he jumped out of the center of the formation.

He landed on a high tree branch and from there jumped to another. The wolves immediately followed.

Drake had just landed on another tree branch when he turned to look behind him and his face changed when he saw the wind wolves jumping from branch to branch on the trees like they were on flat land and they were extremely fast.

Wind wolves were wind element beasts, and while they could not use long range attacks as Grade 2 magical beasts, they were incredibly fast and very agile.

Thanks to this, they had no problem keeping up with Drake. In fact thanks to their high agility and wind affinity they were even a bit faster than him. He had to use his gravity power to help him stay ahead of them otherwise he would only end up surrounded again.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

BANG!

Drake had been bouncing from one branch to another when two wolves closed in on him. just as they pounced on him, he suddenly slid under a branch that had appeared in front of him, and one of the wolves that was unable to react in time crashed into the branch.

CHI!

The second wolf had managed to jump over the branch thanks to its high agility but before it could do anything Drake suddenly spun and his sword slashed right through its throat. He did not wait to see the wolf’s body fall to the ground.

Aowuuu! GRRRRRAAA!

Enraged snarls and howls rang out as the wolf’s no lifeless body fell to the ground, several other wolves immediately took its place in chasing after Drake. The sight of their brethrens blood was driving them mad.

In this way the chase continued.

Drake jumped from tree to tree sometimes he jumped over or slip under branches that he would have smashed into and when a wolf was unable to avoid the branch it crashed into the branch. It had been moving so fast that it even broke the branch.

It fell to the ground, unfortunately for it Drake was right behind it. As it crashed into the ground his sword pierced through its eye into the brain. It whimpered and twitched for a second before falling silent, instant death!

Another wolf descended from the top of the branch at Drake, and he swiftly drew out his Katana and swung it upwards. The blade slashed through the open mouth of the falling wolf cutting its head in half, instant death.

Not waiting for the other wolves to catch up he continued running, he wasn’t even waiting to take the fallen wolves ears. When the wolves noticed that he had returned to running on the ground the also came down from the trees to chase after him.

When he noticed most of the wolves had come down from the trees, as he did anther wolf took the chance to pounce at him.

Drake could not dodge mid air, but he didn’t need to.

SLASH!

He spun back and his sword slashed on the pouncing wolf’s head splitting it in half, thnn he used the repelling power of his gravity power to blow the carcass down to the ground and the recoil shot him up, he easily landed on a tree branch with a flip and once again resumed running.

There was no pattern to how Drake moved or killed the wolves. On second he would jump up the trees, the next he would jump back down. Sometimes he would only kill one Wind Wolf before running and sometimes he might kill two or three.

In this way half the Wind Wolves chasing him were cut down.

But Drake was not at all happy. If anything he was getting anxious, he knew it was only a matter of time before the Wind Wolf Alpha showed up.

’Hey, come to think of it. I’ve already killed a few Wind Wolves, why aren’t there any reinforcements?’ he suddenly had a thought.

Wolves species were known for their unity. If you hurt one the whole pack would come after you. This was the norm!

It was also why Wolves were so dreaded. Yet, after so long no reinforcements have arrived. This baffled Drake.

Suddenly he could hear the sound of Wolves howling in the distance. He hastily turned to the direction the sound originated from.

’Eye of Order’

Stars swirled in his eyes like a helix galaxy and his vision zoomed in on what was happening in the distance.

What he saw startled him so much he missed a step on a tree branch and almost ended up falling on his face.

...

Peter and Paul had been separated when the Survival trial started but thanks to their special connection to each other they had been able to quickly find each other. Even though it had taken them nearly four hours to do so.

But this couldn’t be helped somehow the two of them had been put in completely opposite ends of the city, and there were magical beasts everywhere preventing them fro advancing as they pleased.

If the did try to ignore everything to find each other they would probably have done so in half an hour, but that would mean trespassing into the territories of powerful beasts and provoking hoards of beasts into madly attacking them.

They could not even use their teleportation or if they somehow irritated a beast they shouldn’t they would probably end up dead. Thanks to this they had to walk all the way till they found each other..

The two could not even stop to kill any magic beasts or they might take longer. It wasn’t because they did not want to kill the beasts, but that they couldn’t. they did not dare to.

If they used their magic power too much and exhausted themselves, it would really be a true tragedy when they ran into a situation they needed to run away from.

Traversing the city, somehow they were so unlucky that they never ran into any lone beasts. Any beast that they ran into would be a powerful Grade 3 beast, all the beasts below Grade 3 that they ran into all lived and moved in groups. Especially the Grade1 beasts, they roamed in the hundreds.

Whenever they tried to make a quick kill and run with their teleportation ability they would be surrounded and besieged the instant they appeared. Even if they managed to kill any of the beasts, they would not have enough time to retrieve their ears before being chased off by the beasts

This had naturally made them very aggrieved. When they finally ran into each other in this forest they had been mentally exhausted so they had just climbed into a tree to rest, before they knew it they had fallen asleep and by the time they came to, it was already dark out.

As they climbed down from the tree Peter stretched his muscles causing distinct crackling sounds to sound, "Ah man that was refreshing. Walking around in the falling city is exhausting."

"Yeah, now that we’re all rested up, it’s time we went on a hunting spree." Paul grinned.

"Hehe you took the words right out of my mouth brother."

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Huh

Just as they were talking there was the sound of figures rushing through the wind in the night. The moonlight shone on the new comers and the twins were startled by what stood before them.

"Wind Wolves! So many Wind Wolves." Peter stuttered. They were completely surrounded by Wind Wolves.

"This don’t look good. They’re all Grade 2 magic Beasts." Paul’s eyes squinted.

"Nothing gets past you does it?" Peter groaned, "Of course they’re all Grade 2. Look at them! They’re all fully grown. Is this some kind of welcome party or something?"

Paul rolled his eyes at his brother’s complaint. But he agreed with Pete’s reasoning.

They both knew that Wolves moved in packs and they had seen Wind wolves before, but never in such numbers. There were at least two hundred Wolves here.
