Chapter 54: Chapter 11_2
In the dream, Li Sanjiang had just started to jump when he let out a scream, his entire body falling face down on the ground.
Behind him, all the zombies collectively jumped and then lay flat on the ground like frogs.
"Ah..."
Li Sanjiang felt a pain in his back so intense that it was almost impossible to speak, yet he couldn’t see anything and could only instinctively reach his right hand to feel his back.
All the zombies behind him propped up their bodies with their left arms and raised their right arms to the side.
Li Sanjiang drew his hand back and saw it was covered in blood, his eyes wide with shock.
This shouldn’t be happening!
Yesterday in the dream, despite the peril, he could jump around and dodge the group of zombies chasing him without a scratch, so why did his situation get worse today after coming up with what he thought was a good strategy?
Today, when he fell asleep and found himself dreaming again in the environment of the Forbidden City from last night, he immediately shook off the orange cat on his leg and quickly ran to the central doorway.
Waiting for the heavy door opening sound to end, followed by a "bang! bang! bang!" from inside, he forcibly calmed his nerves, mustered his courage, and when the group approached, he was the first to jump.
And just like that, he became the lead runner.
Such a clever plan, but why did it not yield a good result?
Then, Li Sanjiang noticed that the zombies lying behind him seemed to be making a motion to rise, and disorder started within the ranks.
He gritted his teeth; his back hurt so badly he couldn’t stand up and could only tiptoe with his arms stretched forward, beginning to crawl on the ground.
Seeing the leader moving, the first row of zombies followed, and those behind mimicked the front, quickly turning the loosely packed group back into a neatly ordered formation.
Inside the Forbidden City, a group of zombies dressed in Qing dynasty official robes followed the lead of the guy in torn white underwear, crawling like turtles.
While crawling, Li Sanjiang cursed, feeling extremely vexed as crawling was much more exhausting than running. If only he knew, he would have rather played hide and seek like yesterday.
He was of old age, and in reality, he was living a life nourished by modest food and drink; since he reached this age, he didn’t care much about taking care of his body anymore, when his time came, he would be done, but now here he was, exercising in his dream!
But now he had no choice but to crawl; with the injuries on his arms and back, he dared not stand up to play hide and seek, for he wouldn’t outplay the group behind him.
"Little Yuanhou, when will your luck change, Grandmaster can’t hold on much longer... Ah!"
Li Sanjiang screamed again, turning his head to see that his already injured right arm had five new holes from which blood was rapidly flowing.
He couldn’t crawl any further and could only lie on his left side on the ground, with his right arm hanging limply, dragging his left arm forward continuously while also straining his legs.
All the zombies behind also changed their movements to a tactical prone crawl.
...
Inside the hall, a zombie became furious because the old lady’s five fingers had just stabbed into his right arm, leaving deep bloody holes.
Originally a proud being, it was enraged by repeatedly being thwarted in such a place.
But the old lady stepped back again, increasing the distance, and commanded the paper cats and dogs to pounce and hold the zombie in place.
She then looked down at her nails again; after several successful sneak attacks, her inherent fear had nearly vanished.
Regardless of how terrifying something was, as long as it could be hurt, as long as it could bleed and be killed, there wasn’t so much innate reverence anymore.
Hiding in a corner, Li Zhiyuan slightly furrowed his brows, observing that this bizarrely appearing zombie didn’t seem to be a match for the old lady.
What should he do next?
Turning his head towards Qin Li at his side, she was surprisingly looking down, seemingly uninterested in what was happening outside and lost in thought.
For a moment, Li Zhiyuan felt a bit envious.
He squeezed Qin Li’s hand, and she looked up at him.
"Once the house servants outside come in, we’ll find a chance to break out. Run as far as we can, and don’t stop, understood?"
Originally, Li Zhiyuan wanted to run out through the main door, but the outside was blocked by a group of house servants kicking around and blocking the way.
But with the current situation, the old lady was clearly using the paper people to delay and exhaust the zombies, and soon those outside would definitely be called in.
Then it would be time to run; he didn’t believe this dream had no boundaries.
As for the option to run to the second floor, Li Zhiyuan outright rejected it. Although the staircase had reappeared, what was he supposed to do once he got up there? Jump off the building?
Qin Li looked at Li Zhiyuan and remained silent.
"Did you understand?"
Qin Li lowered her head.
Well, let’s assume she understood.
Just as Li Zhiyuan was about to turn his head to continue observing the situation ahead, he caught the gaze of the old lady with the cat face looking his way.
Li Zhiyuan was startled, and the old lady even gave him a smile.
"Roar!"
The zombie roared again, drawing the old lady’s gaze back from Li Zhiyuan.
"Hehe... your yelling is useless, I thought you were some big deal, but it seems you’re just this much... hmm?"
The old woman’s eyes widened, seeing thick black Evil Qi starting to emerge from the zombie’s wound.
The paper creatures surrounding it, upon coming into contact with the Evil Qi, all seeped out black color, losing their humanoid shape and turning back into scraps of paper and wood shavings.
