Chapter 458: Chapter 82_4
"Never mind, let him be."
"Are you really okay with that? I could hear your laughter all the way outside."
"How far is it from his school?"
"Not far, just a short walk from the school gate."
"Isn’t that the school wall up ahead? Wouldn’t it be closer to have a door there?"
"I’ll go make arrangements."
"There are houses in the school, right?"
"Those houses are small, for retired school teachers and professors to live in. I’m afraid you might not get used to it."
"Heh, I’ve lived in small cottages before, how could I not get used to this? Go make arrangements for a household to vacate a house. If that’s not possible, we might as well swap houses. Living in the school would be closer."
"You just said you didn’t want him."
"That was for his sake, oh, my heart aches to see our Alii standing up to look at him when he comes."
"Alright, alright, as you say. But we’ll keep this house and not swap; the houses at the school don’t have basements big enough for all of Alii’s belongings."
"You go handle it, I’ll go lie down upstairs for a bit. This brat didn’t even borrow any books."
Liu Yumei had just stepped out of the study when she saw Alii coming out of the room opposite.
That room was specifically used to place the ancestral altar, with a new set of spirit tablets made from fine thunderstruck wood.
Ordinary thunderstruck wood is not hard to find, but wood of a specific species, quality, and even wood that has aged in a particular year is priceless.
At this moment, Alii, coming out of the room, was holding four spirit tablets in her arms.
Alii didn’t rush upstairs but looked at her grandmother.
Great, now that the boy is here, her granddaughter has become his little helper.
Liu Yumei opened her mouth but eventually just waved her hand:
"Good girl, go on and take them upstairs."
"Ah Ting, Ah Ting! Hurry up and bring Alii’s toolbox upstairs for her."
...
When Li Zhiyuan returned to school around noon, he intended to check on Tan Wenbin in the dorm to see if he had woken up, but he saw Run Sheng near the affordable store as he passed by.
Run Sheng was still in the same white tank top, with a bandage visible around his shoulder.
"Xiao Yuan!"
Run Sheng jogged over, his arm swing still uncoordinated.
Li Zhiyuan stood still, waiting for Run Sheng to approach.
He continuously tried not to perform in an "intimate" relational network, hoping to give himself some emotional feedback.
The advantage of doing so is the possibility of growth, while the downside... it can easily hurt others.
After all, even among healthy people without illness, two friends trying to be "honest" with each other can easily break the friendship or even turn into enemies.
"How’s the injury?"
"Not much better, but I can get out of bed. I don’t have anything to do recently, so I checked out of the hospital. Lying in bed all day isn’t good for my health, hehe."
He didn’t check out yesterday because he was afraid that his action of leaving the hospital would make everyone think that he was eager to join the action. He didn’t want to put pressure on the team and didn’t want to be a burden.
Li Zhiyuan spread his arms and stepped forward, but halfway through the gesture, it turned into just a pat on Run Sheng’s hand.
Then he turned around and walked back to the dormitory.
"Hehehe." Run Sheng looked down at the back of his hand that Xiao Yuan had just patted and then walked into the store.
Standing at the doorstep of the store, Yin Meng witnessed the whole scene and whispered, "Looks like our Brother Xiao Yuan is still mad at you."
"No, Xiao Yuan is very enthusiastic."
...
In the following days, Li Zhiyuan’s life became very routine.
Salvaging corpses was much like fishing, where the joy for a fisherman lies in the momentary peace found amidst the busyness.
For Tan Wenbin, he entered a mode of previewing university courses, studying until late into the night every day before sleeping.
Li Zhiyuan, upon waking up in the morning, would go eat breakfast at Liu Yumei’s, then spend half a day with Alii. At noon, he would go to Run Sheng’s store to have lunch, and afterwards, he’d pack an extra portion to bring back for Binbin, who wouldn’t wake up until the afternoon.
This step wasn’t originally planned, but when Binbin woke up hungry in the afternoon, he would habitually grab a sausage from Lu Yi’s dormitory on his way to wash up, and apparently, they even started laying out dumplings for him.
Lu Yi’s family wasn’t wealthy; otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to stay at the university to work part-time during the summer break. To prevent Binbin from further plundering Lu Yi’s food, Li Zhiyuan had to bring meals for him.
Mainly because, after Lu Yi was possessed and damaged his dormitory door, it couldn’t be locked when he was out, allowing Binbin to enter freely and help himself to the offerings.
The repairman would only be on full shift after the official start of school, only coming intermittently during the holidays to fix a bunch of issues at once. They could report the damage to the dorm supervisor, and within a couple of days, they’d come to fix the lock, but the dorm supervisor of this building had gone missing.
Lu Yi had inquired with the logistic maintenance department, and the on-duty staff said the newly appointed logistics director in charge of this area had also disappeared.
Run Sheng had also reported Sun Hongxia’s disappearance, though they knew full well what was happening, they still had to go through the official procedures.
The new students had to undergo military training, and their reporting date was already set earlier, but while other classes were being organized to collect their military uniforms, Li Zhiyuan’s and Tan Wenbin’s class, along with the nearby ones, remained silent because their instructor had disappeared just after school began!
Recently, police cars were frequently seen on campus.
The disappearance of five people at the university was a significant matter; a simple investigation would lead straight back to the case from seven years ago, naturally drawing serious attention.
That evening, while everyone was enjoying hotpot in the store, Xue Liangliang, who had gone on a business trip to Mountain City with Mr. Luo, specifically called the store and directly asked,
"What have you guys dug up again?"
The police had been calling Xue Liangliang, as he was the owner of the store and Sun Hongxia was his employee. He quickly understood the underlying reason for the campus sensation caused by the disappearance.
Tan Wenbin, who picked up the phone, replied,
"We’re fishing out fresh tripe and omasum, it’s excellent, do you want to come back for some?"
Xue Liangliang got the hint and said he would when he returns.
He also mentioned that Mr. Luo felt quite helpless upon learning about this, particularly since the last gathering was organized specifically to arrange for Xiao Yuan’s school and daily life, and as it turned out, the three main responsible individuals for the welcoming had directly disappeared.
This meant that once back in Jinling, they’d have to host another gathering.
After hanging up the phone, Yin Meng asked, "Do we even have our phone lines tapped here?"
"No, I just didn’t want to waste words with Brother Liang and risk overcooking my tripe."
Tan Wenbin sat down and started to fish out food with his chopsticks.
At this moment, several people approached the store entrance from outside.
Run Sheng looked up and said to Tan Wenbin, who was still focused on his food,
"The cops are here, your dad."
Without looking up, Tan Wenbin retorted,
"Bullshit, my dad is just a small squad leader at the town’s police station. If he could suddenly get promoted and come to the provincial capital, there’s only one possibility: that our family’s ancestral grave is on fire!"
Li Zhiyuan shifted his position to put some distance between himself and Tan Wenbin.
Yin Meng and Run Sheng also moved to the side with their bowls.
Puzzled, Tan Wenbin said, "Keep eating guys, it’s gonna get overcooked, hehe, if you don’t eat, I, Zhuangzhuang, will eat it all!"
"Bang!"
Binbin was kicked and sent flying.
