Chapter 366: Chapter 65_4
Li Zhiyuan shook his head: "I don’t know. The craftsmanship looks... and the style of the woman’s skirt in the stone carving of the Lady Opening the Door, it also seems like it came after the Qin Han period."
Xue Liangliang asked, "Xiao Yuan, you can’t confirm it?"
Li Zhiyuan: "I’m just good at memorizing things. These ancient artifacts and architectures can’t solely rely on memorization."
Xue Liangliang speculated: "Could it be possible that someone later discovered some secrets of the Yong Country here and then built this place?"
Tan Wenbin was puzzled: "Can it really be like this?"
Xue Liangliang explained: "This method is quite common. For instance, many of today’s tourist sites are developed on the basis of the original sites and then new exhibition halls are built. Essentially, isn’t it the same?"
Li Zhiyuan gently shook the seal in his hand. Jade is all about its lush texture, but the contents here, it’s just remarkable, like glue or liquid, containing tiny granular particles, likely the eggs of those small snakes.
Those snakes, they hatched from this seal, and should normally remain in this state, only hatching some when stimulated or sensed.
So, do the hatched snakes return to lay eggs again?
Is there a fixed amount each time they reproduce or is there some special trigger mechanism?
For now, it seems that when Run Sheng broke the steps, he destroyed the storage environment, and the eggs inside won’t hatch anymore.
"Brother Run Sheng."
"Uh-huh."
Li Zhiyuan handed the Yong seal to Run Sheng for safekeeping, this thing could only be studied after leaving here.
Then, the four shifted their gaze towards the top of the stairs again.
The water was rising more fiercely, the only choice was to keep going up.
Li Zhiyuan reminded: "Everyone be extra careful, be cautious."
Tan Wenbin immediately responded: "I will, I pinch my leg hard every now and then."
The group climbed the stairs again.
They hadn’t gone much further when they saw a platform, not a gatehouse, but a huge snake head carving, mouth wide open, every visitor seemingly being devoured by it.
Xue Liangliang said: "It appears that the people of Yong Country worship snakes."
Entering the snake’s mouth revealed a very spacious flat area, not a snake body ladder but columns stone by stone, the flashlight revealing that this place seemed like an underground palace.
But it was not splendid or luxurious at all, rather, it appeared very primitive and rough, and there were not many furnishings, making it feel very empty.
As they walked further, the footsteps of the four began to echo in this space, and even though they were extremely cautious in treading lightly after noticing it, it was useless, the echoes grew louder and louder.
In the end, it wasn’t just echoes anymore, because the four had already stopped, but the sound continued on its own, growing more and more intense.
Finally, a bit of green light appeared ahead.
Li Zhiyuan directed his flashlight forward; the green light quickly faded, replaced by a fierce tiger poised to pounce.
Everyone was startled, taking steps back; Run Sheng, who was at the very front, lowered his center of gravity while retreating, fists clenched, he was ready to fight the tiger.
However, everyone soon realized the tiger was dead, positioned on a stone platform, still lifelike despite its age, but essentially still a specimen.
But the vanished patch of green light reappeared, the tiger’s eyes suddenly filled with green light, as if the tiger had revived.
However, the four, having realized the tiger’s true nature, would only subconsciously think there was something inside the specimen, rather than believing the tiger had come back to life.
Li Zhiyuan suspected this was due to the equipment, the flashlight worked much more efficiently than torches, diluting the scare effects these settings were supposed to deliver to intruders.
Moving the flashlight around, nearby platforms each held various fierce animals, some species no longer roamed this region.
The most peculiar were two individuals, clearly distinguishable as one male and one female, clad in leather armor with bronze snake-shaped masks, standing among the beasts, like kings commanding them.
Yet, the arms and hands of both the man and woman were in a holding pose, but now empty.
The flashlight swept under the platforms, revealing piles of decayed materials, similar to unearthed terracotta warriors, the objects they were originally holding had rotted away.
The woman, her right arm raised high, likely holding some weapon, combined with a fallen bronze spearhead near her feet on the platform, she appeared to hold a long spear, but her left hand was palm upward, likely supporting something, not a weapon, but possibly some kind of token.
But there was no corresponding trace on the platform below, had it completely decayed or been taken away?
So far, in fact, no signs had been discovered that anyone had been here before.
The eyes of both the male and female gradually lit up with green light, but this green light shied away under the flashlight, basically suppressed when the light shined on it, flaring up again as soon as the light moved away.
A few spots of light still loitered outside but dissipated after a while, likely something like fireflies.
They dwelled inside the bodies of the wild beasts and human specimens, lighting up when disturbed from the outside, creating a "shocking" effect.
Now that they knew what it was, there was nothing scary about it, it was like visiting a museum.
The four continued forward, the echoes seeming encouraged, gathering strength again.
As they walked past the platform of beasts, before the flashlight could even illuminate the distance, a massive swirl of green suddenly surged ahead, a towering pile of white bones appeared in front of them.
