Chapter 307: Chapter 54_3
Outside the house, two plainclothes police officers were present. After Tan Yunlong greeted them, he led them into the house.
The two elderly people were still wiping away tears, presumably having heard the news from the psychiatric hospital.
In fact, what they were more worried about was their grandson. In a short span of time, he lost both his father and mother. Now, what were they to do next?
The only consolation was that the family house had been built, and over the years, the son and daughter-in-law had sent quite a bit of money home, all saved up.
Tan Yunlong explained his purpose for the visit and inquired whether any strangers had approached the place recently. The old couple replied that there hadn’t been any.
But this was obviously impossible, since if Zhu Changyong chose to stay in Shigang, his target could only be this place.
During the questioning, Tan Yunlong specifically mentioned that this person might pose a danger to Zheng Haiyang, causing the elderly couple to become very frightened, pleading with the police earnestly to arrest the criminal.
This was a test to confirm that the elderly couple truly had not had any contact with Zhu Changyong.
Sometimes, in the process of handling a case, one encounters very bizarre twists and turns, not because the case itself is strange, but because of the people involved in the case.
However, when it came to the matter concerning their grandson, the couple acted normally, which suggested that Zhu Changyong had come here alone for his own purposes.
After obtaining the old couple’s consent, the two police officers were arranged to take a look inside the house.
Tan Yunlong walked onto the dam, took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag.
"Uncle Tan, thank you for your hard work."
This wasn’t exactly Tan Yunlong’s case to handle, and it might not even be considered a case at all.
"Xiao Yuan, what are you talking about? We can’t just ignore a potential danger as if we haven’t seen it, right? Um, Xiao Yuan, what do you think?"
When asking this question, Tan Yunlong’s gaze was sharp like an eagle’s, slowly scanning the surroundings. He had a feeling that Zhu Changyong might be hiding nearby.
"Uncle Tan, is it possible that Zhu Changyong came here, not to target a person, but for a specific item?"
"An item?"
"Right, he might not have come to kill."
This was Li Zhiyuan’s speculation. The one who truly had Zhu Changyong’s identity information was Li Lan’s secretary, Xu Wen.
But from what he overheard in the washroom, Xu Wen’s attitude towards Zhu Changyong was not hostile; they even seemed to share a certain closeness.
"Unless you see a body, you cannot confirm death"... These are not words you use to describe an enemy; it could indicate the other extreme.
This also indirectly confirms Zhu Changyong’s identity. He had indeed infiltrated that ship, but he was different from the Honda and Ashley groups.
Even if something bad happened at sea, he would not target the family members of the sailors after coming ashore.
"Then I will go ask again."
Tan Yunlong went to inquire further.
Li Zhiyuan didn’t follow but imitated Tan Yunlong’s earlier action, scanning his surroundings.
Only the thing Tan Yunlong was looking for was a person, and what he was looking for was a Corpse.
But the outcome was the same, nothing was found.
Li Zhiyuan took out some talisman paper from his pocket, affixed one to the dam, and another to the door. He always carried plenty with him, and this time he used them all up.
Tan Yunlong came out: "I asked, there is nothing special, but they may be lying this time."
Since he had discerned a lie, simply taking them back to the station and leveraging the atmosphere there would easily elicit the truth, but now that wasn’t an option.
"Uncle Tan, perhaps we can ask Zheng Haiyang to come back and ask them."
"Hmm, good idea."
Tan Yunlong rode his bicycle carrying Li Zhiyuan back to the school gate and ordered two bowls of noodles at a small shop outside.
"Xiao Yuan, what toppings would you like to add?"
"I don’t need any, Uncle Tan."
The two finished their noodles just as the last evening self-study session for senior three ended, and the noodle shop would close up after finishing the last batch of business for the day.
Tan Wenbin and Zheng Haiyang walked out side by side. As a father and son in tune with each other, he immediately sensed his father’s whereabouts.
Tan Yunlong talked to Zheng Haiyang, without revealing the matter about his mother. He simply made clear the stakes involved, essentially saying that a bad guy was eyeing something at his home, his grandparents knew but deliberately didn’t tell the police, which could bring danger to the family.
Zheng Haiyang immediately promised to clarify things with his grandparents upon his return.
Then, Zheng Haiyang pursed his lips and asked, "Uncle, is my mom also... gone?"
As a sailor himself, with confirmation of his father’s death, and his mother out of contact and failing to return for the funeral, Zheng Haiyang had long harbored a premonition.
"That... you’ll have to ask your grandparents yourself, I don’t know," replied his uncle.
"Alright, I understand, uncle."
After speaking, Tan Wenbin pulled Zheng Haiyang’s shoulder, imparting brotherly advice:
"Buddy, look, my dad and Brother Xiao Yuan are standing together. You have to be obedient. Believe me, it’s fine if you don’t listen to my dad, but you have to listen to our Brother Xiao Yuan.
If you don’t listen to my dad, the worst that can happen is jail; but if you don’t listen to Brother Yuan, you might end up lying flat."
"Brother Bin, I get it. I only have my grandparents left; I hope my family stays safe. Also... To be honest, I feel quite guilty."
"About what?"
"My dad passed away, and my mom might also be gone, but as their son, I don’t feel that heartbroken inside. I think I’m kind of awful."
"Huh, why think that way? Your parents are rarely at home, and you only see them once a year. It’s normal for you to feel less attached."
"But they were busy out there for my sake."
"Well, buddy, look at it this way, don’t be too hard on yourself. The dead cannot be brought back to life, and if your parents could see, they definitely wouldn’t want you weeping inconsolably and unable to move on. They would surely prefer you to live a healthy and happy life."
