Chapter 223 - 39_8
Chapter 223: Chapter 39_8
In the workshop, Tan Wenbin had already fallen asleep.
Suddenly, the door opened, and then two people covered in blood came in, scaring him so much that his face turned white.
Li Zhiyuan raised his head, searching for paper to make a ball to plug his nostrils.
With great difficulty, the nosebleed finally stopped. He rubbed his chest; although his ribs still hurt, it wasn’t a big issue anymore.
Run Sheng picked up a pair of tweezers, pulling out the wooden splinters embedded in his flesh one by one.
After each dealt with their own injuries, they sat facing each other, panting nonstop.
Run Sheng’s eyes showed helplessness; he was scared out of his wits.
Li Zhiyuan’s eyes were filled with confusion; *this question was beyond the syllabus.*
*The previous disturbance caused by the Bai family’s Lady was nowhere near as terrifying and bizarre as tonight.*
*After all, the Bai family’s Lady’s methods were understandable and could be countered.* But the situation at Big Beard’s pond was completely perplexing.
*Even now, Li Zhiyuan felt a deep sense of unreality. Why would such a thing be buried in Si Yuan Village?*
*Just opening a tomb cover had caused such a big group of people to end up like this. Whatever was inside, how terrifying must it be?*
*Li Zhiyuan had to wonder if Aunt Liu could still manage to hold everything together.*
Seeing the two in that state, Tan Wenbin knew something serious had happened. He was very curious and wanted to know, but the two seemed to have forgotten he was still tied up with his mouth gagged. So, he could only wriggle around to attract their attention, squirming like a happy maggot.
Finally, their gazes fell on him, and surprise registered in their eyes.
Tan Wenbin paused for a moment, then wriggled even more vigorously. "What kind of look is that? Did you really forget I was here?"
Run Sheng untied Tan Wenbin. Tan Wenbin wanted to ask something but immediately clamped his legs together and headed to the bathroom.
"Xiao Yuan, I feel a bit itchy, but I don’t dare to scratch."
Li Zhiyuan raised his head and saw that Run Sheng’s skin had turned dark red.
He quickly checked himself and noticed he seemed a bit red, too.
"Xiao Yuan, do you think we might end up like that too?"
"No, if it were going to happen, it would have happened already."
"I’m going to rinse with well water." Run Sheng walked out of the workshop.
Relieved, Tan Wenbin came back in. He wasn’t angry; instead, he approached again and curiously asked, "Tell me, what on earth happened?"
"Brother Bin, wait for Brother Runsheng to tell you."
"Still shaken?"
Li Zhiyuan nodded.
"Is it that serious?" Tan Wenbin hesitated, then asked, "Should we call the police now?"
"No, definitely not. That place cannot be approached at the moment."
Sopping wet and wearing nothing but shorts, Run Sheng walked back barefoot: "Xiao Yuan, rinsing with well water really works. My skin is no longer red. Come, I’ll rinse you too."
Although he couldn’t understand the principle behind it, Li Zhiyuan still went along. With buckets of well water cascading over his head, his body involuntarily began to shiver.
But indeed, the redness that had earlier appeared on his body faded away.
"Xiao Yuan, looks like we’re not in too much trouble."
"Yeah, maybe because we were a bit further away."
"Besides, we ran fast. Fortunately, you suggested we jump right off the building; otherwise, if we had waited to take the stairs down, we might have been in real trouble."
Hearing this, Li Zhiyuan couldn’t help but picture a big bloody-headed fellow carrying a small bloody-headed fellow running through the paddy fields.
"Oh no!" Run Sheng’s expression changed.
"What’s wrong?"
"I left the array flag on the roof, along with my set of corpse recovery tools! They’re still there!"
Seeing Run Sheng’s face full of regret and pain, Li Zhiyuan could only comfort him: "It’s okay, Brother Runsheng, you can make another set of tools."
Immediately after, to prevent Run Sheng from doing anything foolish, Li Zhiyuan cautioned: "Brother, without my consent, you’re not allowed to go back secretly to retrieve them."
Run Sheng waved his hand quickly: "I wouldn’t dare, I really wouldn’t, this time I’m genuinely scared."
"Let’s sleep, get some rest first."
Li Zhiyuan headed upstairs, hesitated at his room door, then looked toward Big Beard’s house. After a long pause, he pushed the door open and went inside.
That night, Li Zhiyuan had a dream, not about Underworld, but a simple nightmare.
In the dream, he was still lying on the rooftop, looking down at two rows of water creatures kneeling below.
They crawled out of their skins over and over, turning into blood creatures;
Then they crawled back into their skins, as if putting on clothes they had just taken off.
Throughout the process, his ears were filled with their piercing screams.
And their eyes remained fixed on him atop the roof.
He didn’t know if it was a nightmare right before waking up, or if he had experienced this nightmare repeatedly. Anyway, when Li Zhiyuan couldn’t take it any longer and turned to jump off the building, he woke up as soon as he jumped.
He hurriedly turned his head; at the door, on the chair, Alii sat with a bowl in her hand.
Li Zhiyuan closed his eyes and lay back down.
Seeing him awake, Alii brought the bowl over. This time, there was a small spoon in it.
The girl didn’t want to accidentally spill the medicine on the boy’s head again while feeding him.
Li Zhiyuan sat up and accepted the girl’s feeding. The spoon was quite large, and he drank it quickly, one scoop after another.
Last night, his nose bled quite a bit again, and he indeed needed some nourishment.
The girl put down the bowl, then tilted her head, observing him. She seemed to sense his current absent-mindedness, looking puzzled.
"Alii, last night, I witnessed something very frightening."
The girl took the initiative to hold the boy’s hand.
