Chapter 79: 79. In church.

It’s been three days since my little argument with Duke in his study. I’ve been avoiding him like he’s some kind of demon after my life. I even started sleeping in my room again.

Why am I doing this?

Why am I acting this way?

I just feel too sorry, and too bad about everything. He keeps telling me I should rely on him but I just feel miserable rubbing all my mess on him.

Even yesterday Saturday, I didn’t spend my time at home. Instead I went to the office and spent my entire day there. I made sure to stay way past eight before returning home and heading straight for my room.

I know I’m being unreasonable, but I just— I just feel so bad, what do I do?

It’s Sunday and I’m heading to church with the twins in their car seats. I already got permission from Duke a long time ago to take them with me whenever I’m going to church so I did not even wait fkr him to wake up before escaping with them.

Usually we’d wake him up before heading out, but today I literally ran out of the house with them as though I was trying to kidnap them in a hurry.

Seriously, I don’t know what is wrong with me.

...

"Come on,"

"Mummy, when will we bwing daddy to church?" Renny suddenly asks as I unbuckle her out of her car seat. What should I tell her? What should I say to her?

"Uhm, well baby, the thing is—"

"Daddy yikes to syeep too much." Shelly says from his end and I laugh.

"Yes. Your daddy sleeps too much."

"Yike a cat?" Renny asks and I bump her nose with my index finger.

"Exactly like a cat." I say and she laughs. "That’s why we don’t bring daddy with us, because he likes to sleep too much. What if we bring him with us and he starts sleeping in church?" I gasp jokingly and they both do the same and laugh with me.

"So let’s wait a little till your daddy can stop liking sleep, then we will bring him with us, okay?"

She nods vigorously, "Good girl, come on now, let’s go."

...

#I saw the light, I saw the light, no more darkness, no more night, now I am so happy, no sorrow in sight, praise the Lord, I saw the light.#

"One more time now kids, I saw the Light, let’s go!"

#I saw the light, I saw the light, no more darkness, no more night, now I am so happy, no sorrow in sight, praise the Lord, I saw the light.#

"Yay!!! A round of applause for yourselves!" I say and they all clap enthusiastically.

"Mummy, mummy, mummy! Did I sing well?" Shelly is asking from his seat.

"Well of course baby!" I say and he blushes and turns to face his left-side neighbor proudly as if silently bragging about the compliment he just received.

"Mummy? Me, me! How about me?" Renny who’s sitting at Shelly’s right side is now asking.

"You did good baby." I say to her too and she acts exactly like her brother.

"Miss Champagne, Miss Champagne, what about me!" Another kid is asking now.

"I heard your voice and it was awesome!" I say and he’s giggling proudly.

"Miss Champagne! Was I good too?" Now the whole class is jumping and asking the very same question.

"Everyone was awesome! Everyone sang beautifully. Gerald was great, Emily was wonderful, Belle was beautiful, Angel sang like an angel, David was melodious, Daniel was great, Gabriella was awesome, Mickey our little drummer boy was wonderful," I say and mutter to myself, "even though the table will never forgive him for what he just made it pass through."

I smile at them and let out a good sigh, "All in all, everyone was wonderful, now let’s have our seats. It’s time to paint Jesus and one of his disciples." I say and they all happily sit down.

"What disciple are we painting today?"

"Thomas!!" They all scream.

"That’s right, another round of applause for yourselves." the whole class rumbles with their applause.

"We’ll be painting Jesus and Thomas."

I hand out their books to them, opening the pages they would be painting before doing so, or else they’ll end up painting every page before returning it back to me.

Although, even though I do this, some of them still open to different pages and do what I never asked them to.

I take a bigger size of the book I’m handing to them, cut out the page of the day that has already been painted and pin it to the board for all of them to see.

"See, you’re going to pain this part red, like you see here, then you paint their sandals brown, and their hair black, then you’ll paint Thomas’ dress blue and—"

I go on to explain exactly what they need to do and when I’m sure they understand and can follow my instructions, I allow them to start working on their own following the example of the one pinned on the board.

The door opens and I turn my head towards it, "I’m back." I hear the person say as she comes into sight.

"Oh, Janey. How did it go? How is Simon?" I ask as she walks in.

Janey is my colleague here in the children’s church for children between ages two to five. One of the children named Simon was running a fever and Janey had taken him to his mother.

"Oh, they’re gonna skip the rest of the service." She explains and sits herself down on an empty small seat next to Jenny. "His mom says he’s been looking a little off all morning but she thought he’d be fine. So now that she knows he isn’t so fine, they’ll head home so he can take some medication and rest properly."

"Oh, I see. Poor Simon, tsk." I click my tongue.

"No, Shelly you’re to color that part blue not green." Janey says while pointing to the board and Shelly changes his crayon to a blue one.

At first I had been worried about what people would say once they found out I had divorced and gotten married all of a sudden again. I comtempleted for days on how to tell my pastor about it too.

But then, I went to him and explained everything to him and to my surprise, he took everything so lightly. He didn’t scold me or anything like that, instead he felt sorry that I had to go through something like that. I remember him telling me not all men were like Rowan, and that there were better men in the world.

He was shocked to know I was already married as soon I found out about my divorce but asked me if I was certain of my decision when I told him I was, he congratulated me and wished me a good life in my new marriage. Although I didn’t tell him about my initial contract with Duke.

He did encourage me to come and swear our vows in the church too.

At the time I introduced the twins as my children to the church, everyone was surprised that I suddenly had three year old twins calling me mummy.

And of course there were whispers, but the people giving me encouragement, congratulations and love were more than those whispering, so everything was okay.

I’m grateful to God for the spiritual family he gave me.

"Oh!" She claps her hand together causing not only me to flinch but the other children around her too. "Sorry," She chuckles, "I just remembered I was going to tell you that the handsome newcomer finally came to church again today."

"Huh?"

"Dont you remember?" She asks as she rises to her feet. "I told you that time that a handsome newcomer came to church. But he’d stopped coming for a while now." She explains right in my face.

I slide away from her front in the pretense of checking what a child is coloring, "I don’t know, Janey, every male newcomer looks handsome to you, so I can’t quite remember the one you’re talking about." I shrug.

Janey is still very young. She’d just be twenty by April, so she squeals and blushes at every new handsome guy that comes to church.

"No, this one was different, don’t you remember? I told you I’ll show him to you when next comes." She follows me as J move to another child.

"You’ve said that a lot of times too." I remind her. Truly, she says that all thee time.

"Have I?" She scratches her head with her index finger as though she’s trying to really recollect one of the many times she has tolde that very same thing.

"Haha, well whatever." She laughs and shrugs. "Just come with me, I’ll show him to you." she says.

She’s such a clown.
