Chapter 76: 76. He scares the shit out of me.

{Alicia’s POV}

A knock to my door disturbs the not so peaceful sleep I’m trying to continue. I bury my head deeper into the pillow, ignoring the annoying sound that seems to be getting louder.

"Open the door, Alicia," Urgh, I really don’t want to see her this morning. I’m feeling shitty as it is, I don’t need anyone to fuel my annoyance right now.

"Alicia, I know you’re not sleeping, open up the door." Why is she troubling me this way?!

I take a pillow and press it over my head to block out her voice, but I can hear her telling someone to get her the spare keys.

Urgh! For goodness sake, can’t she just leave me alone?

In the next minute, I hear the door being unlocked and I know she’s already inside. I can hear her feet moving, she’s going towards the window. I hear the sound of the curtains being aggressively drawn open and the next thing I know my blanket is being yanked away from my body.

"Mom!!" I finally unbury myself from my pillow and sit up while glaring at her.

"What are you doing in here? It’s a Wednesday morning, why aren’t you heading to work?"

"What business of yours is it if I go to work or not!" I scream at her. Seriously, she can be so frustrating and annoying at times.

"I am the CEO, mom, I think I get to take days off if I want!" Why can’t she get that fact, that I can do whatever I want, whenever I want! It’s my business, not hers!!

"Do you think the position of CEO is a joke? What exactly have you done to earn that position? Huh?! I handed you that position that you are so proud of yet the only thing you can do is laze around like a log of wood suffering from wet rot!!"

"Mom!!"

"Shut up! You can’t even win over the heart of a single man and you’re proudly claiming rights and benefits over a position that I handed to you!"

"It’s not my fault!! The man is stone!!" The more I think about it the more vexing it is. I mean what the heck. To think I traveled all the way to another state to try and seduce that bastard only to be turned down without so much as a word!

What the heck does he see in that bitch that makes him stick to her like a guard dog?!

I thought being away from her would be a chance to finally woo him, and use my feminine charms on him but all through the conference I tried getting his attention but to no avail. I thought after the conference I would get a chance to talk to him but it was basically useless.

Before I could even walk up to him, he was off. I literally spent hours chasing him around a foreign state like I was begging for his affection!! I didn’t get a chance to say a single word to him.

"There is no such thing as a man being stone!" She yells back.

She’s just saying that because she has no idea what I had to do to finally get a chance to talk to him.

It was so difficult! In a foreign state within a short period of time, I had to make certain calls to have someone tamper with his private jet so he would be forced to stay the night in a hotel in that place.

I thought if he spent the night in a hotel, I could bribe one of the staff, get the keys into his hotel room and then he would not be able to resist me.

However, the mad man!!! It was as though he had something in this state he had to come back to. When he got the news of his flight being canceled because of an issue with his private jet, he immediately got himself a first class plane ticket heading back home!

I mean what the fuck was he running home to?

"All men are the same!! You just need to be able to figure out what makes him bend!!!"

That’s the problem! "Duke Grand has no such thing!" I yell back.

After learning he was taking a public flight back home I had to make sure I got on the same plane, bribed the personnel so they would give me a seat right next to him!

Seriously, I spent so much money on a worthless trip!

I have never spent that amount of money on anyone but myself before.

"How can you call yourself a woman when you can’t even use your charms wisely." She asks as she takes a step closer to me.

She places her palm around my jaw and forces me to look at her. "I gave you these looks and yet you waste it on petty things like that useless, good for nothing doctor when that wimp Champagne is nestling in the arms of a man that is as good as modern day royalty!!"

This is unfair! I slap her hand away from my face in annoyance.

"Why are you suddenly bringing up Rowan?! You know I was only using him to get to Champagne!"

"Yes, and I didn’t mind because there is nothing bad in having a little fun with toys. But it seems you’ve associated and spent too much time with that toy that you no longer know how to stand before a real man."

"You don’t even know what kind of person that man is!" I snap.

"Have you ever met him one on one? He has this dark aura that scares and thrills me at the same time. He isn’t like some easy prey like you think."

"There is nothing like easy or hard prey Ali, that’s where you’re getting it wrong. You only have to see him as a person with a rod between his legs and you’ll have your victory. Because—"

"All men think with the rod between their legs, I know." I complete her words because I’ve heard her say it to me a million times.

"If you know, why do you still find it hard to get him in your grasp."

"Because it’s not easy!" How do I explain to her that Duke Grand is the hardest target I have ever faced. "I mean do you know J managed to sit next to him on the flight back home?"

"And?"

"And I tried all I could to get his attention. I tried stroking his body in a way that would evoke the desire of any man. I tried showing him some skin. I literally almost stripped in that plane, mother! This man was as stiff as a rock! He didn’t say a single word to me but then at some point when I tried to touch him again, his gaze darkened so much that it sent shivers down my spine, almost as though he was suffocating me just by glaring at me."

"It was as if he was silently telling me if I touched him one more time, he would slice off my hands. I’m telling you mom, that man isn’t normal. I hate that Champagne has such a specimen with her, trust me I hate it more than you do, but he scares the shit out of me."

"That’s not all, about thirty minutes before the plane landed, do you know what he did? He took off his coat, then brought out wet wipes from only the devil knows where and wiped every part of his body my hands had touched."

"What?"

"Exactly! It was like he was treating me like some kind of dirt! And as if that was not enough, that coat he took off, he dumped it in a bin at the airport."

Urgh!!! The more I think about it, the more vexing it is to me.

"You see mom, you see why I’m saying Duke Grand is not like the ordinary men that are easy to seduce. He’s on a whole different level."

Seriously, how did Champagne manage to get a hold of such a man? Rowan is of the notion that she must have been sleeping with Duke while she was still married to Rowan. But I don’t think Champagne can do that.

But the more I think about it the more it seems like that would be the case. The timing of their marriage was too soon. She couldn’t have met someone new so quickly. That only happens in romance novels.

So could it be true? Could Champagne have been sleeping with Duke while she was still married to Rowan? Was she also cheating on him?

"Ali darling, stop biting your nails." Mom says and takes my hand in her own. I didn’t even realize I was doing that. She sits next to me on the bed and suspiciously begins to pat and stroke my hair.

"Ali, for men like that, sometimes beauty isn’t enough."

"What are you trying to say?" I ask her.

"I’m saying, if beauty doesn’t work... Use your brains."

I wonder what she’s getting at.
