Contract Marriage starring Love and Revenge
Chapter 30. Something happened.

Chapter 30: 30. Something happened.

"How can your love change so easily? Huh?" Is he being serious right now? Is he really giving me that disgusting look? Glaring at me like he’s criticizing and judging my actions. He can’t be serious, right?

"One minute you’re acting like I did the worst thing by being with Lici," Lici? Seriously? You have got to be kidding me. "And then the next you are throwing yourself at the next rich man ready to accept you."

I sincerely cannot believe this is happening right now.

"Tell me the truth," he finally sits himself down where Duke had been sitting. "You were already seeing him while we were still married, right?" He asks the most dirty thing I think he can actually spew.

I look at him and the fact that I’m breathing in the same air with him leaves a distaste in my mouth. I feel nauseated immensely.

"I think you’ve had one too many wine tonight, Mr. Fletcher." It is surprising how I’m able to maintain my composure when this man is sitting right next to me. I thought I would crumble and fall in front of him, but for some reason, even though I’ve been crying every night because of the hurt I felt, right now, I feel nothing.

"I mean, what could he possibly see in you? Although, I must say you look quite different tonight. Who knew you could wear these kinds of dresses too?" He shrugs and I just focus my attention on the glass of wine in my hand.

"When did you start sleeping with him? Huh? Tell me. There is no other way you could have gotten married so quickly."

"Oh, Rowan," I decide to reply to him in a way I’m certain will make him irritated. "Is there anything too hard for God to do?" I shrug and just like I expected, the irritation on his face is good to see.

He scoffs, "Are you saying your God dumped a new husband right onto your lap, just after we broke up?"

"Of course he did. God said he will do a new thing, and my husband

is that new thing." emphasis on my husband, "Then God said that that new thing shall spring forth and I will know it. Guess what, our love for each other keeps on springing forth with every new morning and there is no denying it, I know it."

"Are you f*king kidding me!"

"Rowan!" I flinch as he suddenly grabs my wrist, causing a little bit of wine to jump out of my glass and onto the white table cloth.

"Cut all this bullshit about your damn God! Tell me the f*cling truth." He squeezes my wrist, glaring at me like he wishes to wring my neck. Is he seriously drunk!

"You were sleeping with him while we were married weren’t you?"

"Rowan, are you outta your mind! Let go of me this instant!" I try to pull my hand out of his hold but it’s impossible. At this point, the struggle has caused my glass of wine to knock over and the entire content has spilled onto the table.

"Huh?! You were just waiting for me to divorce you myself then you could go running to him, right! How did you seduce him huh? I thought you were a Christian, huh? Yet you opened your legs for another man while being married to me—"

*SMACK*

The sound of my left palm kissing the right side of his face reechoes above the tune being played by the Orchestra. I don’t need to look up to realize that all eyes are now on me and I’m too angry to notice.

"Don’t you ever talk about my husband like that." I instantly jack my wrist away from his hold, "He is not an unprincipled buffoon like you." I rise to my feet, picking up my purse with me as I make my way to Senator Martins.

"Sorry about the commotion, senator." I say with the sweetest smile I can conjure. "And I will have to give more apologies because I will be leaving now as soon as I find my husband. It was a lovely party..." I say, then add, "that is until someone ruined it for me."

"Not at all my dear." He nods and accepts my outstretched palm in a handshake, "Forgive me for allowing in someone who ruined your night." He smiles, but with his eyes on the annoying someone who has ruined my night.

With nothing more to say, I walk away from the senator, not once looking back at the idiot I once called husband. He is suddenly making me rethink my life choices.

Seriously.

...

"Where could he be?" I wonder as I make way towards the direction I was pointed to. The men’s restroom should be around here some—

"Oh," I pause as he suddenly walks out of a corner, almost bumping into me.

"Pagne, were you looking for me?" He asks and I nod.

"You’d been gone for a while and—" I suddenly pause as my nose is suddenly struck with that annoying smell of rosemary.

And it’s coming from_ him.

W_why does he smell like her?

Why? I’m starting to think about so many things that I don’t want to think about. I’m coming to many conclusions and I don’t like them.

Why does Duke smell like—

My breath cuts in my throat as a certain blond emerges from the same corner Duke just came out from. It has got to be a coincidence, right? It must be a coincidence.

Duke is nothing like Rowan. They are different people from head to toe.

I know this.

I know this very well, so why do I still feel this way? Seeing her smirking at me from behind him makes my heart ache.

She was in his arms.

The fact that her smell is so attached to him means that she was definitely in his arms... The makeup stain on the chest of his black suit that I’m noticing now only justifies my thoughts.

Dear God help me, I really hate this.
