Chapter 31: Chapter 21 Father Qu’s Passing Away_2

"That’s good."

Becca didn’t say anything more.

Alexander Quentin spoke slowly again. "Becca, I’m afraid my illness won’t get better. I want you to promise me something."

Becca quickly reached out to comfort her father. "Dad, you shouldn’t say that. You’ll definitely get better."

"Promise me first."

"Alright. You tell me. As long as I can do it, I will help you accomplish it."

"I hope you can have a child for Howard Geoffrey," Alexander Quentin said suddenly.

"Huh?" Becca didn’t react for a moment. "Uh... Dad, it’s not that I haven’t considered having a child, but Howard said we’re still young and there’s no rush." She prevaricated, trying to shift the blame to Howard.

"No rush?" Alexander Quentin looked at Becca skeptically. "But Howard just told me that he wants to have a child with you sooner rather than later."

Alexander Quentin was lying, of course.

"He... he said that?" Becca was a little surprised.

Alexander Quentin said naturally, "Becca, how can a married couple not have children?"

"I..."

"I don’t have much time left. I really hope to see my own grandchild born in my lifetime. This can be considered my dying wish..." Alexander Quentin expressed an extreme longing.

Unable to bear disappointing her father, after a few seconds of hesitation, Becca nodded gently and comforted him, "You’ll definitely see your little grandchild born."

「Two days later.」

As she watched Becca get into the car Howard had sent, Alexander Quentin sighed deeply.

Aunt Clare pushed Alexander Quentin, who was sitting in a wheelchair, back inside. With sorrow, she said, "Master, I truly feel for Miss Quentin. Mr. Geoffrey doesn’t actually like her, yet you insist she have his child." Aunt Clare had served Alexander Quentin for many years and was privy to all the Quentin family’s affairs.

Alexander Quentin’s eyes filled with tears as he said helplessly, "I know this child will inevitably cause Becca hardship in the future, but I have to do this..."

Aunt Clare nodded in agreement. "Indeed, the child is like an amulet for Miss Quentin. Although it will be hard for her, I believe that even if Mr. Geoffrey can’t give her happiness in the future, Miss Quentin will surely find someone who can take care of her..."

"Yes."

「At a high-end private hospital in T City.」

Howard’s chauffeur, Roye, paced anxiously outside the operating room. "Do you think Miss Quinn’s surgery will be successful this time?"

Jason Wood leaned against the wall, arms crossed, completely unfazed by Roye’s worry. He calmly said, "With the boss accompanying Miss Quinn, nothing will happen to her."

"You’re right. The boss is Miss Quinn’s spiritual pillar. With him there, she’ll definitely make it through."

After a moment of silence, Roye couldn’t help but ask again, "Jason, when is Miss Quinn’s next surgery?"

"Next month."

Roye’s eyes widened. "Does that mean Mr. Geoffrey will be divorcing Miss Quentin next month?"

Jason Wood remained silent.

Roye sighed lightly. "Ah, time flies so quickly."

Jason Wood turned to look at him. "What, feeling sorry for her?"

"It’s not that I feel sorry; I just think Rebecca Quentin is quite pitiful. Before she married Mr. Geoffrey, I thought she was a spoiled, rich girl. However, after observing her for these past two years, I believe she’s actually quite good. Although she’s often quiet, she speaks gently to everyone. She doesn’t carry herself with the airs of ’Mrs. Geoffrey’ and doesn’t seem like a pampered debutante from a wealthy family at all."

Jason Wood said flatly, "No matter how good she is, she can’t compete with Miss Quinn."

"That’s true. Miss Quinn is like a goddess. Rebecca Quentin naturally can’t compare to her." This seemed to be an indisputable fact; even Roye’s words revealed his admiration for Christine Quinn.

「At night.」

Lying in bed, Becca stared blankly at the ceiling.

Her thoughts were a chaotic mess; her father’s words replayed endlessly in her mind.

To be honest, for the past two years, she had never once considered having a child with Howard. She had always believed that a child should be the crystallization of love between parents and should grow up in a stable, complete family. She and Howard were destined not to last, and having a child would only entangle them further. She didn’t want that. However, her father seemed to desperately want to see this grandchild...

What should she do?

Her thoughts became increasingly muddled. Finally, in her distress, Becca sent a text message to her long-time friend, Isabella Joanna.

The message roughly mentioned what her father had said to her the day before.

Isabella Joanna replied quickly, "There’s really nothing to agonize over. If I were you, my child with Mr. Geoffrey would probably be old enough to run errands by now."

"Why?" Becca texted back, confused.

Isabella Joanna replied, "Because I want to stay by Mr. Geoffrey’s side forever. Having a child would create a bond, a tie that ensures he could never leave me for the rest of his life. I know your thinking is different from mine; you don’t covet everything Mr. Geoffrey possesses. But I hope you seriously consider one question: in these past two years, has there truly not been a single moment when you wished to be with Mr. Geoffrey forever?"

This message sent Becca into deep thought.

A long while later, just as she was about to reply to Isabella Joanna, the sound of the bedroom door handle turning broke the silence.

Howard was back!

Becca quickly put down her phone, intending to feign sleep, but Howard walked into the bedroom at that very second.

Seeing Becca putting down her phone, he loosened his tie and asked gently, "Not asleep yet?"

Becca burrowed deeper under the covers, replying awkwardly, "Um, I was just chatting with Isabella."

Tossing his tie aside, Howard walked towards Becca.

Watching his tall figure approach, Becca couldn’t help but tense up, her fingers gripping the blanket tightly. Damn it! She’d thought he wasn’t coming back tonight, so after her bath, she had casually slipped on a T-shirt as sleepwear. Ordinarily, that would be fine, but this T-shirt wasn’t very long. Lying in bed, it barely covered her underwear.

With practiced ease, Howard scooped Becca out from under the covers. As always, he said domineeringly, "Keep me company for a bath."

"Uh..." Before she could refuse, she was already airborne.

The moment he lifted her, Howard seemed to catch sight of how little Becca was wearing, and his male instincts were instantly aroused.

Feeling Howard’s intense gaze fixed on her lower body, Becca blushed and hurriedly tried to change the subject. "Uh, didn’t you say you weren’t coming back tonight?"
