Conquering His Cold Heart
Chapter 455 - 455: Enough

It hadn't been long since Vincent arrived at the castle when his attention was grabbed by the sudden thunderous roar that came from Caspian's chamber.

Although he didn't quite catch what Caspian was shouting, he was sure of one thing – Caspian was in the worst possible mood today.

He immediately grabbed a hold of the guard who was on patrol duty and then asked him, "Hey, did something happen in the castle? Why do I hear Caspian losing his temper like that?"

The unwavering aura that the guard had maintained just until a moment ago vanished in an instant when Vincent asked those questions to him. He looked at Vincent as if he had found an angel who could protect them all from the King's wrath.

And although the guard didn't know all the details, he told what he was aware of. "Lord Vincent, we all heard His Majesty screaming and crying yesterday night. I also heard that he… he hasn't been in a great mood since then."

"He was crying?" Vincent couldn't believe what he just heard. 'Why would he cry unless…'

He instantly widened his eyes and asked the guard restlessly, "Did it have anything to do with the Queen?"

The guard shook his head and replied, "I don't know about that but…" He looked down and mumbled, "I did see the servants clearing several human bodies out of the castle yesterday night. His Majesty must be greatly frustrated for him to lose his composure like that."

Almost instantly, the shocked expression on Vincent's face was overlapped by a tremendous sense of fear. His brows contorted when Tilla's request from the morning lingered in his ears.

'If necessary, will you shield the Queen from the King's wrath?'

Vincent was afraid that he was already too late.

Without wasting any more time in questioning, he climbed the stairs and instantly rushed along the long corridor that led to the King's chamber.

The closer he got to Caspian's chamber, the more anxious he felt. And his fear only grew when he saw all the people who were standing in the gallery with terrified expressions on their faces.

When he was close to the door, he could hear Zenon's voice coming from the room. He could only catch a few words here and there. But he could tell from Zenon's tone that something was definitely off.

Vincent wanted to slow down and enter the chamber after getting Caspian's permission. However, thinking about the human bodies that the guard had mentioned earlier, he couldn't help but barge inside the room.

"Redeem herself?" He couldn't help but shout because he was sure that 'her' referred to the Queen. And he couldn't help but think that Caspian had already done something unspeakable to Anastasia to make her 'redeem herself'.

'Does that mean Caspian is already aware of everything? Did the Queen already confess like she said she would?' he thought to himself as his eyes trailed to Zenon's bloodied shirt collar. 'But why does it look like Zenon is the guilty one?'

He looked at Caspian to make sense of the situation. However, all he could see was Caspian's anger and nothing more.

"What's going on?" he asked Caspian a bit nervously. "I-Is everything alright?" He was genuinely worried seeing Caspian's bloodshot eyes and flared nostrils.

Caspian felt a slight sense of warmth when he heard Vincent's soothing and caring voice.

He immediately let his guard down and mustered up his courage to express his woe, "Anna is sick…" His downcast eyes, the sullen look on his face, and the helpless tone in his voice made him look utterly miserable.

Caspian suddenly looked back at Zenon and then shouted in a heartbroken manner, "Not just sick, she is dying!" His blood-red eyes looked ferocious as if he wanted to swallow Zenon whole.

Then he pointed his finger at his advisor and accused him of the betrayal, "And this man knew about her condition all along but he deliberately hid that information from me!"

It seemed like all the reasoning that Zenon gave for his action fell on Caspian's deaf ears.

Caspian turned his eyes on Vincent hoping to get some sort of reaction. He wanted Vincent to say how wrong Zenon was for doing so. At the very least, he had expected Vincent to show his deep concern when he heard about the Queen's condition.

However, disappointment washed over his eyes as well as his heart when Vincent simply lowered his gaze as if he was deliberately trying to avoid eye contact.

Suddenly, Caspian's whole body began to tremble. He was fuming with rage because there was only a single explanation for Vincent's lack of reaction.

He clenched his fists tightly so as not to strike Vincent with his protruded claws. He didn't care that he was bleeding.

He just kept on glaring at Vincent and spoke word by word, showing his immense displeasure towards his friend, "Were you also already aware of Anna's condition?"

That question coupled with Caspian's intimidatingly cold aura took Vincent by surprise. And he fumbled for words in his panicked state, "I just… No… I mean, yes. But I only got to know about it y–"

Out of the blue, the chamber was suddenly filled with Caspian's mocking chuckle. He was mocking himself for putting trust in anyone. He was mocking himself for arrogantly thinking that his most trusted friends would never lie to him.

It seemed like there was not a single person on Earth whom he could fully trust.

Both Zenon and Vincent exchanged a wary glance with each other. They could see the shadow of death looming over them. And that shadow was cast by Caspian.

Vincent, with a sense of urgency, tried to calm Caspian's rage by trying to clarify himself, "Caspian, I swear I only found out–"

"Enough!"

Not wanting to hear any more lies, Caspian closed his eyes and pushed both of his hands forward in the air with great force. Without laying a single finger on Zenon and Vincent, he was able to forcefully push them out of his room.

*Thud!*

Both Zenon and Vincent crashed badly on the thick wall of the corridor. Thankfully, the force wasn't too much. The crash only left a few cracks in the wall and didn't collapse entirely.

Immediately after, Caspian furiously swung his left hand sideways while pointing at the door. The door slammed shut, creating a loud thudding sound that resonated throughout the corridor.

The slamming of the door was quickly followed by several crashing sounds that came from inside Caspian's room.

Those who were outside held their breath. They didn't even dare to blink their eyes, fearing that the sound produced by the flap of their lashes would provoke the King into directing his wrath on them instead of the things in his chamber.
