Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 452 - 452: Accusing Glares
As ordered by the Queen, Martha walked out of the Queen's chamber and stopped by the door.
"How's the Queen?" John immediately asked Martha as soon as his eyes met hers.
Martha gave a reassuring nod and replied, "She is doing fine for now. She just had a bowl of soup and is finally trying to catch some sleep."
John didn't ask any further questions. He was just glad to know that the Queen was eating her food.
"Umm…" Martha cleared her throat when John went back to his attentive position. And when his attention was back on her, she asked him, "Did the King come here in the night by any chance? Her Majesty was asking."
John firmly shook his head and replied, "No. He did not." Even if the King had come knocking on the Queen's door, John had made up his mind to chase the King away if he showed any signs of violence or showed any ill intention toward the Queen.
Martha nodded her head and headed towards the King's chamber without wasting a second.
As she was walking down the gallery, she felt a little uncomfortable. There were several guards, maids, and even some officials lurking around there. And almost everyone had their eyes on her as if they were seeing her for the very first time.
'Is it just me or are they all giving me an accusing glare?' she furrowed.
She kept her head low to avoid making eye contact with those hostile-looking vampires. Then she sprinted towards the King's chamber without trying to make it too obvious that she was running away from their scornful glares.
'Am I even authorized to come to this part of the castle?' she wondered as she could still feel the glares on her.
Thankfully, she met Percy near the huge door which she assumed was the door to the King's chamber. She quickly ran towards him as if seeking refuge.
Percy also stopped for her to catch up to him and then asked, "Martha? What are you doing here?"
Martha instantly replied, "The Queen asked me to check on the King's condition. That's why I came here."
Percy nodded his head understandingly but then said, "I am sorry, Martha. The King hasn't allowed anyone inside his chamber. That's why everyone is standing in the gallery, waiting for his order."
"Oh!" Martha nervously glanced towards the King's door. She really wanted to know what this was all about. She wanted to know if the King and the Queen fought with each other. However, she didn't think that it was her place to ask.
But she did ask what the Queen told her to find out. "Sir, do you know how the King is doing? The Queen seems worried. She hasn't slept a wink for the whole night."
"Oh, is that so?" Percy frowned a little.
Even Percy didn't know the specifics about why the King was isolating himself. Now that he heard about the Queen, he speculated that the King's behavior had something to do with the Queen.
"Sir?" Martha raised her brows and asked again since Percy seemed to be lost in his thoughts.
Upon hearing Martha's voice, Percy quickly regained his composure and answered, "Honestly, I don't know how the King is doing because he hasn't let anyone inside his chamber since yesterday night."
"What do I tell the Queen?" Martha asked in a restless tone.
Percy was equally puzzled as Martha. He thought for a while and then replied, "For now, tell her that the King doesn't want to see anyone. And if she is worried about his well-being, say that he hasn't been showing any signs of violence. He has been really quiet after that sorrowful cries that we heard yesterday."
"He cried?" Martha's brows knitted in tune.
Percy let out a deep breath and said worriedly, "I believe that the Queen was with him at that time. She must already know."
Martha's downcast eyes struggled to focus in one place when she heard that the King had cried when the Queen was with him.
'Just what is going on?' she got really curious. 'I hope isn't something very serious.'
With that, Martha went back to the Queen's chamber while avoiding the piercing glares from all the vampires in the gallery.
As soon as she entered the Queen's bedchamber, she was bombarded with questions from the Queen.
"Did you get to see him? How does he look? Did he say anything about me? What was he doing?"
Martha gave a sad glace to the Queen and slowly answered the Queen's questions. "Your Majesty, I did not get to see the King. Mr. Percy said that His Majesty hasn't allowed anyone inside his chamber since yesterday, not even the maids and servants. They were all waiting outside."
"But did you at least get to know how he is doing?" Anastasia looked really anxious.
Martha licked her dry lips and replied politely, "Mr. Percy said that they haven't heard him being violent."
That answer wasn't enough to calm the anxious Queen. If anything, she looked even more nervous after listening to what Martha had to say to her.
Seeing the Queen's changing expressions, Martha tried to calm the Queen's heart, "Maybe His Majesty is simply taking a nap. It's still too early in the morning."
However, Anastasia was sure that after hearing what she said yesterday night, there was no way Caspian could be sleeping.
'Should I go check on him myself?' Anastasia thought to herself.
But she immediately shook her head. 'What if he gets angry after listening to my voice? And what if he remembers his decision to send me away? I don't want to unnecessarily rile him up and force him to send me back.'
After arguing with herself in her head for some time, Anastasia thought that it would be best to wait for Caspian to come to her on his own after his rage dissipated to some degree. She didn't want to risk angering him again.
Thus, she turned to face the window again and curled up inside the blanket once more.
'Don't wake me up if I fall asleep. But don't hesitate to wake me if the King wants to see me,' Anastasia ordered her maids and then closed her eyes.
Staying awake for the whole night had made her eyes tired. Her head was also aching badly, but not as much as her heart. And although a lot of things were playing in her head, she soon fell into a deep slumber.
