Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 444 - 444: Spiraling
Caspian turned his head to the other side and answered Anastasia while hiding his tears, "Spend the remaining time with your family. This gloomy place isn't the right place for you to spend your last precious months."
"But you are my family now!" Anastasia instantly protested.
She hurriedly knelt on the cold wet floor covered in blood while avoiding stepping on the last victim of Caspian who now lay dead right beside her.
She gently grabbed Caspian by his chin and made him face her.
His eyes looked bloodshot by now.
She drew in her brows and said after gulping dryly, "I understand if you need some days to calm your anger toward me. But you were begging me not to leave just a while ago. Please, don't change your mind like this."
"You cannot send me away so easily, Caspian," she firmly said while looking directly into his eyes.
Caspian gritted his teeth and grumbled while trying his best to hide his true emotions, "And you cannot say what I can and cannot do. I am the King. So, I can change my mind as many times as I want. Now I am begging you to go back to where you came from."
"What if I don't want to go back?" Anastasia asked with a challenging look in her eyes. "This is my home now. And I am your wife. You cannot kick me out of my own house."
Caspian sarcastically scoffed before blatantly saying, "We haven't even officially held our marriage ceremony yet, remember? We haven't exchanged any vows. So, you don't have the right to claim that you are my wife."
Anastasia felt her heart splitting in two when Caspian ran his tongue like the sharpest blade again.
However, she suppressed that pain in her heart and shouted while glaring at him with teary eyes, "We might not have officially exchanged the vows but you have officially declared me as your wife and also as the Queen of this Kingdom. And… we've done all the things that every married couple does. Don't try to…"
She began hiccupping because she was trying hard to suppress that sour sensation at the back of her throat.
Caspian clenched his jaw and dug his claws into his own palms after making Anastasia cry. He closed his eyes and turned to face the wall again.
He hated saying such mean things to her. He hated it from the depth of his soul.
In reality, he wanted to cherish every single second that Anastasia had left. He wanted to make as many beautiful memories with her as possible. He wanted to immortalize each and every moment that he spent together with Anastasia by treasuring them in his heart forever.
However, given how he reacted tonight, he was afraid of losing his temper around Anastasia again.
'What if I lose my mind for a split second and when I return back to my senses, she is lying dead in my arms?' This was what he was terrified of. And this fear was what drove him to believe that Anastasia would be safer if she stayed away from his sight.
Anastasia, on the other hand, was staring at the back of Caspian's head with her blurry vision. She was trying to figure out why he really wanted her gone.
From the sound of it, she felt as though it wasn't just because he was mad at her. She knew that he didn't mean everything that he just said. She could tell that there was something more that was bothering him.
However, she was unable to read him correctly.
Whatever his reason was, she was clear about her own feelings though. She was clear that she didn't want to go back to her birthplace, at least not right away. Visiting for a few days was one thing but staying there until the death took her away was a big no for her.
So, she gently grabbed Caspian's arm and then took her stand. "I will forget everything that you just said to me. I will also forget that you asked me to return to Orsenia. I am not leaving this castle."
"The carriage will be waiting for you in the morning. I will ask the maids to pack your belongings. It's a royal order." Caspian also took his own stand.
The last thing he wanted was to have the blood of his wife on his hands.
Anastasia simply pretended not to hear what Caspian just said to her. She drew in a deep breath and slowly pushed herself up on her feet while saying, "I will head for my chamber now. On my way, I will ask Percy to clean everything here."
She then turned around to face the door. She wanted to leave Caspian alone for now. She was hoping that his anger would subside to some extent by tomorrow. She also hoped that Caspian would come back to his senses and back out from the impulsive decision that he had just made for her.
Before leaving, she looked over her shoulder and said to Caspian, "I once again apologize for all the pain I am causing you. I was being selfish when I decided to come here to be your bride. And I know I am still being selfish by trying to cling to you."
A cold shiver ran down her spine when her eyes unintentionally fell on the heap of human bodies in front of her feet.
She quickly looked away and mumbled before scurrying out of the bathroom, "But please bear with me this one last time…"
Caspian also felt his heart shattering once more when Anastasia made it sound as though it was her last wish to spend the rest of her days with him.
It obviously put him in a dilemma.
'Can I keep my sanity in check when I am around her? Can I still trust myself to behave properly?' he was forced to question himself.
"Caspian…"
He suddenly got distracted from his thoughts when he heard Anastasia's voice.
She had stopped on her track to say something more to her husband. "Please come and talk to me if you want to ask me anything. Anything at all. I will answer you truthfully. No more lies. No more concealments."
