Chapter 425 - 425: Dumb Wolf

'Ruby, can you hear me?'

Ruby was lost in the dark world of her nightmares when she suddenly heard a familiar warm voice calling out to her.

'Ruby…'

She turned around to see a big black wolf staring down at her. She was in the middle of the woods, far away from her home. In her heart, she knew that she shouldn't waste another second there.

However, instead of turning on her heels and running away, she maintained her eye contact with that frightening creature. She slowly lifted her hand to caress the smooth fur of that wolf.

She gave a warm smile to that wolf when it came close to her and sniffed her. But all of a sudden, that wolf snarled and chomped her hand.

Ruby suddenly gasped and woke up from her nightmare. Her whole body was covered in cold sweats. And there was not a single part of her body that wasn't aching.

"Ugh!" she grunted and tried to sit up on the floor.

Before she could move an inch though, the bones in her body started to snap again. She took a few deep breaths while trying to contain the pain that she was going through.

'This will be over soon. Just breathe… Calm your mind…'

She was speaking to herself when she heard that warm voice in her head again.

'Don't make me any more miserable than I already am. I need you. Please.'

"What?" Ruby scoffed to herself when she didn't understand what Everard was trying to say to her. "What is he– Argh…" her thought process was disrupted by a loud crack of her backbone.

It took her around half an hour to fully embrace her wolf side and let it take over her body. She was already drained of her energy by the time she turned.

All she wanted to do was lie down on the cold floor and fall asleep until it was time to bid goodbye to the full moon.

However, right when she closed her eyes, she heard a rather commanding voice of Everard in her head, "Ruby, I order you to meet me in the Great Hall within an hour. I will be waiting for you."

Before Ruby could even process what she heard, her body began to move on its own. She got up on all her fours and then slowly went close to the iron bars of her cell.

'Wait! Why is my body moving on its own?' she thought to herself and tried to turn around.

'Turn around! Move the other way!!' she screamed in her head again.

Her body wasn't listening to her anymore.

It was as if the wolf side of her suddenly split up from her and had now taken over her body. And that wolf was a dumb one because it started to continuously bang its head against that heavy metal that was standing in between her and her sire.

'Stop! We can't get out of here! We are prisoners!' she screamed at herself, hoping that her wolf side will listen to her. 'We will get punished if you keep this up! Please!'

Her efforts seemed unfruitful because her wolf kept on trying to break out of the prison. It reached a point where the chestnut color of her fur became darker laced with the excessive amount of blood that she was losing.

Although she was healing simultaneously, she was hurting herself faster than the rate of her healing process.

Lorenzo was also trying to warn her from the other cell to stop acting out. He was constantly growling at her.

But Ruby didn't understand what Lorenzo was trying to say to her. Even if she did, she wouldn't have been able to follow Lorenzo's instructions because her body was out of her control.

Lorenzo abruptly stopped growling when he suddenly felt immense pressure around the area. It was as though there was a very powerful entity in the vicinity.

'The Alpha is near…' Lorenzo exclaimed in his mind in panic and nervously tried to peek into the other cell. He wanted to gesture to Ruby to stop behaving rashly. However, he obviously couldn't see Ruby because of the thick wall between their cells.

Soon, the whole atmosphere of the dungeon turned cold and grim.

Lorenzo felt greatly uncomfortable as the aura kept on getting overwhelmingly intense. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a pair of red eyes glowing in the dark.

'W-What? How is it possible?'

Lorenzo was dumbfounded when he saw the white wolf with red eyes marching down the corridor of the dungeon.

For a brief second, he felt as though he was in the presence of the late Alpha because that was exactly how Romulus looked in his wolf form.

Lorenzo whimpered and quickly lowered his head in submission when his eyes met with that of the Alpha. After that, he didn't dare to lift his head, not even once.

Regulus, on the other hand, was watching the wolf of the Crestfire clan desperately trying to break out of the prison even when he was standing right in front of her.

The anger in his heart was boiling to a spilling point. The humiliation that he had faced from Everard in a hall that was full of people was still fresh in his heart. And seeing one of Everard's wolves disrespecting him like this made him feel even more enraged.

When Ruby didn't stop her pointless act, Regulus glared at her and growled loudly. He wanted to take his anger out on her to get even with Everard.

But the growl was so loud that it finally broke the trance that Ruby's wolf was in. She was finally in control of her own body.

'Ah! Finally!' she sighed in her heart.

However, the relief on her face soon disappeared when her eyes landed on a very angered wolf that was snarling and giving a death glare at her.

Ruby didn't want any trouble at the moment. She was already too weak to put up a fight. She didn't want to submit to Regulus either. Thus, she quickly turned around and then sat down at the far corner while facing the wall.

Regulus also slowly calmed down when he saw Ruby sitting quietly in the corner. Though she didn't bow to him, he brushed it aside thinking, 'She isn't from my clan. So, she isn't required to.'

'I will reprimand her tomorrow for her rowdy behavior,' he thought to himself and headed back towards the hall upstairs to join the party again.
