Chapter 38: Flying gadget

As they were walking down the street, they saw students flying through the air. Their shoes had wings attached that were the reason why they were able to float in the air as if they were flying.

"Look, Creep! We used to only see things like that in shows, but now they are real! Superhumans are so awesome! I want to experience flying too!" Sujin said in excitement.

"Ah, are those the new inventions of the Research Corps? These superhuman students learned to use them so quickly."

"You’re right. Maybe they’re easy to use. Unfortunately, we won’t even get to experience using them like they do because from what I’ve heard, only superhumans can use them."

"Is that so?"

"Sadly, yes."

"I’m jealous."

"Me too."

The two envied the flying students.

"With those gadgets, traffic will no longer be a problem soon," Dante muttered and laughed wryly.

"Hehe. That’s true."

At that moment, they heard an ear-piercing scream.

"Kyaaahhh! Heeeelp meee!"

Dante and Sujin turned to the source of the voice and saw one of the flying students looking like a helicopter that had lost its balance. It was wobbling in flight as if it would crash to the ground at any moment.

Soon, what they had expected happened. She was plummeting below like a crashing helicopter. Her companions tried to rescue her, but she fell too fast.

Sujin’s eyes widened as she watched it in shock.

The student closed her eyes and covered her face with her arms. It seemed like she had accepted whatever the consequences of this accident would be.

However, before her face hit the cemented ground, a shadow suddenly appeared and neatly caught her.

Everyone was stunned at that moment.

The female student slowly opened her eyes and was surprised when a handsome face greeted her vision.

’Eh? Who is this handsome guy?’ She muttered in thought.

She blinked her round beautiful eyes in wonder.

It seemed time stopped at that moment as both of them stared into each other’s eyes. She could smell his breath and Dante too could smell her breath and could hear her pounding heart. It was beating rapidly.

’She must be scared as there are even tears in the corner of her eyes.’

"Are you okay?" Dante was the first one who break the silence.

Hearing him, the girl then realized she was rescued by him.

"Uh, y-yes, I am fine!" Her face turned red instantly.

Her companions landed one by one.

"Merryl, are you okay? Why didn’t you use the safety mechanism?" Asked one of them.

"Yes, I’m fine. Safety mechanism? I forgot," she replied, looking embarrassed.

Then suddenly, "Hey, put her down already!" A male voice said in an annoyed voice.

When Dante glanced at him, he noticed he was looking at him with a pair of hostile glares.

Just then, Merryl noticed she was still in his arms.

"Uh—eh..." she suddenly looked flustered.

Dante then slowly put her down. After putting her down, she said, "Thank you very much for saving me!" She bowed and thanked him wholeheartedly.

With a calm expression, Dante nodded and said, "Be careful next time."

Suddenly, her male companion said to her, "Wait, Merryl, don’t lower your head at him!"

"Huh? What do you mean, Michael?" Merryl looked puzzled.

"It’s unsightly for a superhuman to lower your head to an ordinary human," he said in a stern voice.

"Eh? But I don’t really care about such—"

"Listen Merryl, we are a superior human. Ordinary humans are nothing but just lambs. Don’t lower your standard to their level. I know he saved you, but there are more ways to pay gratitude."

Merryl looked stunned. "What? What do you mean?"

Michael suddenly turned to Dante. "You, name your price."

Hearing it, Sujin burst out. "This jerk! Your friend almost got an accident and all you care about is your status?! Are you stupid?! If it weren’t for my friend, something bad would probably have happened to her!" He felt insulted not only on his and Dante’s behalf but to all ordinary humans.

"Bastard! Watch your mouth! A lamb calling me stupid? Do you have a death wish?!" Michael’s brow twitched. An alarming aura came out from his body.

Seeing it, Sujin looked a little scared. He immediately hid behind Dante.

Hearing the commotion, more people gathered around them. Most of them were students in the same school as them.

Those who didn’t know the full context of what happened and just arrived at Michael’s speech, immediately sided with him. They were murmuring some insults towards Sujin and Dante.

"These normal humans have thick faces. They even have the guts to scold a superhuman when they are the ones being protected by us superhumans once a demonic creature attacks the city."

"Heh! This behavior of theirs, you would think they had contributed enough to society when all they could do is hide and cry if a demonic creature attacked."

"That’s right. They should be stripped of the right to study in the same school as us superhumans. They are nothing but a stain to our reputation anyway."

"Wait. I think I know him. That’s the creepy otaku guy," one of the onlookers, a former classmate of Sujin and Dante, pointed at Sujin and called him a creepy otaku.

After they were awakened with superpowers, they were transferred to the superhuman class.

"Creepy Otaku? That’s hilarious! Hahaha!"

They started laughing at Sujin.

"What a nice moniker. Suits you better, freak. Haha!" Michael chuckled and his friends also started laughing.

Dante smirked and said, "Let’s go, Creep. We are just wasting our time here talking to idiots. Well, at least we are ordinary and normal, right? Hehehe," he said and laughed.

"Ahaha, you’re right. Since we are normal, they are abnormal! Wait, Creep! Don’t leave me. These people’s abnormalities are very contagious. I don’t want to get infected!" Sujin quickly followed Dante.

He didn’t want to be left there surrounded by superhumans. They would kill him for sure.

Turning their backs and saying those words seemed like a huge insult to Michael. His vision suddenly darkened with anger.

"Wait!" He shouted.

He would not let these two go without paying for the insults they uttered.

However, Dante and Sujin pay him no mind. They continued walking away.

"I said wait!"

Out of anger, Michael launched forward, sending a punch to Dante.

Everyone gasped at that moment, especially Merryl. "Michael, don’t!" She tried to stop him but it was too late. Michael’s movement was way too fast. His figure blurred in an instant. His superhuman ability was superior speed.

Merryl looked confused and shocked. She wondered how it came to this. She just wanted to sincerely thank the person who saved her.

However, before his punch could reach Dante, Michael found himself lying upside-down on the ground.

Everyone was puzzled, especially Michael himself.

’What? What happened?’ Michael asked inwardly, puzzled to the outcome.
