Chapter 36: Secret task

Chapter 36: Secret task

Riley sneered at them and said, "Inside my territory, what I want is what I get. Kill the men and capture the woman."

"Young master, here’s a chair." One of his men gave him a chair and Riley sat in an arrogant pose.

His four companions hastily came to his side and started trash-talking Dante’s group.

"These people dared to offend us, are they stupid?"

"They are simply seeking death."

"That young man thinks he’s awesome for being a CEO’s son is just hilarious. Nowadays, money without power is akin to a fishing rod with a loose string."

"Let’s have him watch later as we mess up with his beautiful girlfriend. Hehehe!"

"I love that. Hehehe!"

"Hehehe!"

They started laughing maniacally.

Dante glanced at Manager Sai and saw her showing a disgusted expression towards Riley’s group.

Dante already lost the appetite to continue eating but he found the current situation interesting. And he was curious as to why Manager Sai wanted to capture that Riley person.

What did she mean by information? Isn’t this already outside the SHIELD’s jurisdiction?

While he was contemplating, the skinhead with tattoos and piercings on his face stepped forward and pointed his bat at Dante’s group.

"Ya stepped in someone’s territory without knowing who rules that place, and ya even offended our young master! Ya can only blame yourself for your ignorance! Now ya have to die!"

A robust figure suddenly blocked his vision.

"Ya’ punk think I’ll get intimidated by your size? Let me show ya how I beat ya real good!"

Without fear, he attacked the robust man. He swung his bat, aiming to hit him in the head. In the past, he fought against many foes with bigger sizes like these two and he managed to defeat them, so what was the difference this time? He’d still beat the hell out of them.

Thump!

What?!

His bat was stopped.

"Ya caught it with your bare hand? You’re crazy!" The skinhead sounded bewildered.

Without responding to him, his head was clenched in one hand and lifted him in the air. He tried his best to free himself.

"Bastard, let me go! Don’t ya know who you’re messing with?!"

His vision suddenly swirled around when the robust man spun him and then threw him away like his weight was a joke to him. His back hit the table and chairs and caused a mess and clutter.

The other robust man was beating the other gang members.

"What the hell are these two? Are they monsters? There’s no way they are humans!"

Even if they landed an attack on them, they showed no reaction as though they feel no pain like cyborgs.

Seeing his men getting beaten up one by one, Riley and his friends looked dumbfounded.

Even Dante didn’t expect these two to be this strong.

It was two against thirty but the result was different from what they expected.

"Riley bro, what are we gonna do? These men of yours are all useless!"

Riley frowned and thought, Tsk. This is bad. I didn’t expect these morons to be so useless.

"They must be superhumans."

"Superhumans? Damn! That explains why they are so strong."

"Stupid. If they are superhumans, an aura should appear in their body," Riley said while furrowing.

"Y-You’re right, bro."

"Then they are elite fighters."

They glared at Dante.

"That CEO’s son must have hired them!"

Dante looked dumbfounded by their words. He wondered why they kept believing such an obvious lie without even doubting it a little.

Are they stupid? Or the word doubt and suspicion not in their heads?

After crippling all his men, the two robust men approached Riley, cutting his escape route. The four friends sensing their defeats, immediately ditched Riley, giving almost the same reasons. Saying: "My father called me and he wants me to go home right away", "My mom called me and she wants me to go home early", "My sister will arrive tonight, they want me to go home early", and "My dog called me. I need to go!"

They left in panic leaving Riley alone.

Just then, Manager Sai stood up from her seat and approached Riley. Dante followed. He wanted to gossip.

"What are you planning to do? I warned you! If something happens to me, my family will destroy your whole family!"

Riley tried to intimidate them but that was useless.

"No need to get tense. I just want to ask some questions. Though your life and death depend on your answer."

Dante could feel Manager Sai was serious. Did something happen while he was in a coma?

"What?"

"Wild Trading Firm. What is your connection to it?"

Upon hearing it, Riley’s eyes grew wider.

"I-I don’t know what you’re saying. T-That’s the first time I heard it."

"You’re totally lying. An eyewitness saw you going in and out of that place."

Manager Sai glanced at one of the twins. It seems they understood what her gaze meant.

Riley’s hand was stabbed by a knife.

Chunk~~!

AARRRGH!

"B-Bastard!"

"I told you, your life and death depends on your answer," Manager Sai said coldly. No trace of that sweet and lovely chic a while ago.

"Next, who is Ricardo Li?"

"I-I don’t know!"

"Stab."

Chunk~~~!

ARRRGH!

"Next..."

It was a torture.

Riley gave up in the end. He spilled all the information Manager Sai wanted from him.

Dante also learned why she did that.

According to her, the Wild Trading Firm was connected to a smuggling business. It wasn’t just simple smuggling goods but monster smuggling.

Dante looked shocked when he heard it.

It seemed monsters appeared inside the city through smuggling. After investigating it for three months, they finally learned about it.

The name Recardo Li appeared in their investigation. His connection to the case was still unknown.

"But why are you the one doing the investigation? Isn’t it supposedly the police or the SWORD Corps?" Dante asked Manager Sai.

"Think about it. You’re the one assigned to guard the fence to avoid those monsters from entering and then some of them suddenly appear inside the fence, who do you think will get the blame?"

"I suppose those who are assigned to guard."

"Exactly. That’s why we are conducting a secret investigation. By the way, you have to help us with this."

"Huh? I just got out of the hospital, so I need proper rest."

"I’ve got your medical results. Although it seems abnormal, the result showed you’re perfectly healthy."

Dante gawked.

What the heck?

As expected, she was meticulous about it.

"Don’t you have some people who are more suited to this task instead of me? Uh, right. Those newbie Agent Warriors, they are better for this dangerous task."

"No. If we use superhumans to handle the investigation it will alarm our target. And chances that the government will find out we are investigating without their permission is high. That’s why we can’t use our superhuman members. This investigation is a secret task that only a few know."

"So that’s why you let me tag along this time to make me learn the insight of this task without needing a long explanation."

This devil got me.

"Hehe. Your quick-wittedness is what makes you suitable for this task."

"At Least let me think about it. You are directly cutting my rights to decide."

"Hah~ alright. I’ll get your response tomorrow. Ah, right. Take this..."

She suddenly handed him a black card.

"What is that?"

"Your salary from the past three months. Do you think we are forcing you to work for free?"

"Oh, but I didn’t do anything besides being a subject of shady experiments."

"You’re already a member of the Corps so of course you’ll get your salary."

"I see."

Without further argument, he took it.

Well. I don’t have a penny right now, so this is a good thing.
