Chapter 1363 - Chapter 1363 Chapter 1363 Knowing Him Is My Bad Luck
Chapter 1363: Chapter 1363: Knowing Him Is My Bad Luck Chapter 1363: Chapter 1363: Knowing Him Is My Bad Luck Willie Novak’s impatient dismissal of her did not surprise Penny Kalafatis. It seemed she’d grown used to it. She bit her lip, slowly pulled herself up from the ground, and left the restroom.
There was a crowd waiting outside. The looks they gave Penny combined sympathy with a touch of contempt. Willie’s assistant was the one to break the silence, “Miss Kalafatis, the boss said he knows what you want. He asked you to go to the auction venue first, he will be there shortly.”
Penny sighed in relief, straightened her back. Even if she couldn’t match up to Xaviera Evans in Willie’s heart, she was the only woman by Willie’s side, and she intended to remain there forever.
Years ago, she had painstakingly entered the Novak family household, scheming against Xaviera. It was not easy for her to have Xaviera kicked out of the Novak house. Everything she had now was hard won. She had to become Mrs. Novak rightfully, in order to make those who once mocked her regret it.
Everyone who heard Mr. Novak’s assistant speak, had somewhat peculiar expressions. They collectively seemed to suggest that Mr. Novak still had feelings for Miss Kalafatis, even though she wasn’t Mrs. Novak yet, but she certainly would become one someday.
A few noble ladies immediately smiled flatteringly, “Didn’t Miss Kalafatis want that violin? It seems you will get your heart’s desire this time.”
“That violin is the crown jewel, it must have special meaning. If Mr. Novak bids on it to give to Miss Kalafatis, it proves he cares for her. In that case, we will not compete with Mr. Novak.”
Another woman delivered a compliment, “Since Miss Kalafatis wants the violin, Mr. Novak will surely win it no matter how much it costs. We simply aren’t at his financial level, competing with him is pointless!”
Hearing everyone’s praise, Penny’s expression gradually became smug.
At this time, Caleb Mamet and Xaviera had arrived at the auction venue. Their seats were luxury sofas, being located at the center, they weren’t just luxurious, but also had a broad view.
Xaviera turned her head towards the man by her side, “Don’t you have any questions?”
“What does Xaviera think I would ask?” Caleb, with eyes as radiant as stars, looked gently at her. It took only one glance from him to move Xaviera’s heart.
Caleb lifted his hand; his long, fair fingers landed on her cheek, caressing gently. His tone was calm, with a hint of coldness, “What’s your past with Willie Novak? You knew him even before me, right?”
Xaviera was taken aback momentarily. She always felt that Caleb knew everything. Did he find out himself, or did he hear it from somewhere else?
She pondered for a moment, then realizing the implication, she frowned, “Did Willie tell you about this? What else did he say?”
Caleb’s smile was warm. In front of Xaviera, no matter when, he always maintained his gentle image.
Xaviera was disgruntled. Willie was too despicable. Although she had known Willie since a long time ago, that was all part of Willie’s sneaky plot. After all that had transpired, any feelings that once existed between them had vanished long ago. Why would he make such absurd remarks in front of Caleb?
Caleb, nonchalantly, “I’m not angry, nor do I care about his words.”
Xaviera was still huffy, “He had used me in the past to approach my grandfather, stole my grandfather’s medical book, and even nearly burned down the Collection Court. So what if I knew him longer than you?”
“Such a despicable villain. Knowing him has been my misfortune!”
A smile relaxed Caleb’s stern face, his gaze was even softer.
These assumptions were not Caleb’s claims; Xaviera elaborated all on her own. Moreover, Willie did indeed brag about knowing Xaviera earlier, trying to disrupt their marital harmony. Unfortunately for Willie, Xaviera had long lost trust in him.
Caleb’s clear eyes seemed like a deep pool, quietly watching the young woman beside him. Her every move was so charming, making him feel nervous for the first time, as if anyone could snatch Xaviera away. He wished he could hide Xaviera from the world, unwilling to let others see her brilliance.
But he wasn’t worried now because Xaviera’s eyes only saw him. She would not favor Willie Novak.
The auction was about to start. Xaviera casually picked up the catalog on the table and flipped through it, suddenly remembering Caleb saying he had a gift for her.
Ever since they got married, Caleb had given her many gifts. The accessory and clothing-filled wardrobe had accumulated from them. Although the auction items were expensive, there was nothing special. They were more or less similar to what she had in her wardrobe.
Then, what gift was Caleb going to give her? Could it be the violin?
