Chapter 1192 - Chapter 1192 Chapter 1193 She Slandered Me
Chapter 1192: Chapter 1193: She Slandered Me Chapter 1192: Chapter 1193: She Slandered Me As soon as Xaviera Evans spoke, there was silence for a few seconds, and then Nidya Hughes burst into a screeching laugh: “Are you crazy? Zora lost the bracelet! Why would I suspect her?”
“Of course, you can! Miss Hughes staged the bracelet loss and pinned the blame on me. Mrs. Hughes, you can check Zora’s bag, maybe you’ll find it!”
Zora Hughes suddenly stiffened, her blood seeming to congeal. It took her a long time to recover.
Xaviera wanted to search the bag?
Nidya Hughes was indignant: “What right do you have to search Zora’s bag? She is the victim, the one who lost her property!”
“Can’t the victim steal from herself? Why does Mrs. Hughes insist on blaming me without evidence, but now firmly believes in Zora?” Xaviera countered.
The policewoman received a signal from her team leader and searched Zora’s bag.
Zora breathed a sigh of relief; luckily, she hadn’t put the item in her bag. But the next second–
After searching the bag, the policewoman accidentally touched Zora’s clothes and fumbled in her pocket, pulling out a diamond-studded bracelet from the inside pocket of her coat.
The million-dollar diamond bracelet was in Zora’s own pocket!
Boom–!!
Zora’s mind was in chaos, everything before her eyes became blurred. Weren’t they supposed to search the bag? Why did they search her clothes?
Originally, Xaviera was the one accused of stealing, but now Zora became the main culprit!
“Oh! It was indeed on Miss Hughes!” Xaviera hugged her arms and leaned slightly into Caleb Mamet’s arms. “The bracelet was clearly in your pocket, yet you made a scene at the police station, accusing me of stealing it!”
Nidya Hughes was struck dumb and looked incredulously at Zora.
Zora was sweating nervously: “Auntie, I told you before that Xaviera wouldn’t steal. I must have forgotten to put it in my pocket, and that’s why I misunderstood her.”
Xaviera watched Zora’s farce with great interest, but whatever she said now seemed powerless and pale.
Zora tugged at Nidya Hughes’ arm, urgently saying, “Auntie, now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, let’s go. Grandpa is waiting for us at home!”
At this moment, Nidya Hughes felt even more humiliated. Everyone’s gaze was on them. The bracelet was not missing, nor had Xaviera stolen it. However, she wasn’t happy at all – her heart was filled with unwillingness and guilt. Nidya Hughes, like a walking corpse, was dragged by Zora out of the room.
Nidya’s mind was in chaos. What would she do if this gets out? Falsely accusing her own daughter of theft would make her even more of a laughingstock!
She walked weakly towards the exit.
“Don’t leave yet!” Xaviera shouted, and Steve Price quickly stood in front of the two women.
Nidya Hughes turned her head stiffly, her face flushed and pale. She gritted her teeth and roared at Xaviera, “What do you want?”
Xaviera turned to the policewoman: “Officer, I want to file a complaint.”
The policewoman understood. These two ladies had falsely accused Miss Evans of theft, and the amount involved was worth 1 million dollars, constituting defamation. They also made a false report and occupied public resources. And now they wanted to leave without a word?
Impossible!
“She slandered me!” Xaviera pointed to Nidya Hughes and yelled.
The policewoman wasn’t surprised, but in the next second, Xaviera also pointed at Zora Hughes, “She deliberately destroyed my collection, worth 200,000 dollars.”
200,000 dollars wasn’t much to Xaviera, but it was enough to start a case. As soon as the policewoman heard it, she immediately recorded it, but Zora was utterly baffled.
Xaviera said she deliberately destroyed her collection, but she hadn’t!
Before Zora could speak, Nidya Hughes couldn’t help shouting, “Xaviera Evans! What nonsense are you talking about!”
Xaviera glanced at her dismissively, and soon a man in a suit entered. He greeted Caleb Mamet and Xaviera respectfully, then introduced himself to everyone: “I am Bill Bankston, a lawyer from Dell Law Firm. My client is Miss Xaviera Evans.”
The policewoman asked everyone to move to the mediation room. As they all sat down, Lawyer Bankston wore gold-rimmed glasses, with a faint smile at the corner of his mouth, but his tone was very serious: “Regarding Miss Evans being slandered, my client has already told me the whole story. From now on, my client doesn’t need to answer any questions, and I’ll take full responsibility.”
That was within the procedural guidelines, and the police naturally agreed. However, Nidya Hughes was unhappy as soon as she saw the lawyer, “Xaviera! You actually invited a lawyer? Are you going to sue me?”
It was just a trivial matter, yet she had invited a lawyer. She was overly uptight!
