Chapter 64: New [2]
.....
"Go on, Ashborn."
The man said as he stared at the boy.
Even in his sleepy state, Ezra couldn’t help but shudder at the man’s gaze. d d d d d d d d d d d d d d d d d d
"It’s nothing, sir."
He shook his head, half to shake all the sleepiness out of him, and half to deny the fact that he wanted to curse.
"Hmm. Do you find the class boring in anyway, Ashborn?"
He asked.
"No, sir."
"Then why were you sleeping in the class? Or is it because you didn’t have enough sleep at night?"
He asked.
"Neither, sir, I wasn’t sleeping."
"This is the second time you’ve been caught sleeping in the class, Ashborn."
The man said as he went back to the front of the class.
"But since you claim everything is fine, can you please tell me everything I’ve explained so far, you were listening, weren’t you?"
Ezra’s eyelids drooped as he stared at the professor.
’I don’t know, goddamn it.’
He thought.
The last time he was caught dozing of, he was able to explain everything the professor had explained, proving that he was paying attention.
Then, he didn’t need to stay awake to listen.
But now, when sleep wanted to take him whole.
’I really don’t know.’
He didn’t hear shit.
Ezra stood in his chair, staring back at the man that stared at him, his lips not moving in the slightest. In contrary, it was his eyelids that moved.
"You don’t know? Remain standing till the end of the class."
He turned his back to the chalkboard and continued drawing on it, conveying his explanations in a diagrammatic form.
With his back turned, numerous eyes turned to stare at him.
Boring into him.
If it was a week earlier, when he was the attention-seeking type, he would have preferred it.
Now, after a full two weeks in the Academy doing nothing, he became more of a chill guy, one that wanted zero attention from those he didn’t want to associate with.
However, it was impossible now.
The eyes stared at him, unnerving as they had never been, the only plus side it served was that it helped to keep his sleepiness at bay.
The class dragged on.
It felt long, and every once in a while when the professor turned to the board, they turned to look at him.
It felt like it took forever for the class to end.
"Class dismissed."
Finally.
One by one, they all filed out of the class.
Then, it was finally Ezra’s turn, he left the class last, as usual.
"Ashborn, wait."
The professor instructed.
He took a piece of paper from the stack on his desk and handed it to him.
"Please submit first thing tomorrow."
Ezra barely managed a nod before walking out of the class.
His sleepy eyes glanced at what the man had gave him.
’This man is really after my ass.’
He thought as he headed for his dorm room.
....
Arthur was left in the classroom by himself.
’I forgot about Hybrid Spells.’
He thought, a hand stroking his chin.
Spells that combined two Mana Sequences together to form an entirely new spell altogether.
One word left his mouth.
"Risky."
The only reason such a spell was in the curriculum was because it had once been approved by the Scholars Institute, but over time it’s problems grew glaringly clear.
For example, Steam Rise, though only an Advanced-rank spell, required the mana of a Veteran-rank spell.
And in the case that it backfired, one such incidence, was that the caster’s body blood was boiled until every bit was gone.
"But, I wonder how it would be in my hands...."
He mused.
The perks of Draconic Bloodline.
The numerous risky, yet powerful Hybrid Spells that could be used with the ’player’ character.
He would be able to use them.
Here.
Not in some game, but in here. The ’real’ world.
While he already had an absurd amount of mana in the beginning, Hybrid Spells weren’t something he could choose to do one day just because it sounded good.
For one, the known ones weren’t powerful. And Arthur doubted if he would be able to create one of the Master, or even Grandmaster-rank before killing himself first.
That was four years ago.
Now, the possibilities were limitless. He knew the circuits, the nodes, the mana sequence, the mana flow.
He knew everything!
"But I can’t really try it now."
If he were to use one of the Grandmaster-rank, he would no doubt be coughing up blood.
Sighing, Arthur reached for the stack of paper on the desk.
’Ugoku Raijin.’
He reappeared in his locked office.
"The perks of the draconic bloodline, most of them are inaccessible to me despite having the bloodline for it."
Dragon-only places.
He had tried entering one on Sunday, only to be rejected.
"I could have done something about my lifespan if it had been."
Unfortunately, it was locked for him. Even with 20% bloodline such places were inaccessible for him, he would have believed that the location was wrong if he didn’t remember the landmarks.
So much for a draconic bloodline, even with his lifespan decreased greatly it was still bad for him.
It was almost as if the system, or whatever it was, had given him just 20% in anticipation that he would try to do something with the perks given with the bloodline.
And it was right, at every step when he tried something he realized that the amount of draconic blood in his veins was insufficent.
Receiving any more could result in instant, or a shorter death.
Staying like this would mean that he would die regardless.
In other words, Arthur was currently on a road with two different sides to go to.
Unfortunately.... Each side led to death.
Crossroads of doom.
And he couldn’t turn back, despite the fact that he most desperately wanted that.
So, the only hope left was Hybrid Spells.
