It was a Monday morning, the clouds hung outside.

Ezra walked slowly to class, he was practically dragging himself with the way his feet dragged across the ground.

After the short break, the one that lasted from Saturday to Sunday, he was finally ready to go back to classes.

Unfortunately, while his mind was okay with it, his body wasn’t.

His eyes felt heavy....

Somehow, he wanted to sleep some more, even though he had spent most of his time throughout the weekend today sleeping.

It was odd.

He had never felt the need to sleep before, since he was awake even when he slept he found the people who did it to rest, weak.

Now, he was so tired.

It was strange to say the least.

The sensation where one needed sleep.

Never in all his years of life did he ever feel the need to sleep.

Now, it was happening and his eyes felt heavy, his feet dragged across the floor, and he struggled to stay awake.

Ezra dragged his body into class ignoring the stares from his classmates, before settling into his seat in the back.

As soon as he sat down, he fell onto his seat.

’Finally.’

He ignored everything around him and closed his eyes.

Ezra couldn’t explain this.

It was like his consciousness was leaving his body, almost as if it was leaving to recharge. It felt good, to be honest.

’Is this how real sleep feels like?’

It’s embrace was warm, loving.

He almost didn’t want to wake up after this.

"Hey, Ezra."

Lucas’ said.

Immediately, everything Ezra had been feeling vanished.

"Fuck."

He cursed as he raised his head up.

"What is it?"

Ezra was annoyed.

"Nothing, I just wanted to ask for something, but it isn’t important anyway."

"What is it?"

"Nothing."

"If I rest my head on the desk don’t disturb me until the professor comes."

Lucas scratched the back of his head.

"Why are you always sleeping then?"

Ezra stared at him blankly for a moment as he struggled to keep his eyelids open.

"I just like it."

He replied before resting his head back on the desk.

’I’ll get up soon.’

He thought.

Then, he sighed inwardly.

’What’s the use? I might as well just sleep off.’

He felt the feeling returning once more.

Just as it was about to open.

The sound of the door could be heard, just barely for Ezra, and then Lucas began shaking him violently.

"What is it now?!"

He growled.

"You said to wake you up when the professor arrives."

The commotion in the class quieted down at his presence.

The professor dropped his materials on the desk, before addressing them all.

"Open your textbooks, today we’ll be working on Hybrid Spells; the combination of the Mana Sequence on essence types."

The rustle of pages filled the air.

Ezra on the other hand struggled to bring out the textbook from his bag.

When he did, finally laying it on the desk, he turned the page.

"He said Diffusive Spells right? I don’t see it here."

He murmured to himself.

The only thing close to that was Hybrid Spells.

"It’s Hybrid, not Diffusive."

Lucas corrected.

"Oh."

He finally saw it.

The class liked his teaching.

He was efficient, and took his time in explaining things. Almost like he had a knack for teaching.

"This is the Mana Sequence for the Flame Burst spell."

He pointed at the first one.

"While this is the Mana Sequence for the Aqua Shield spell."

He pointed at the second one next.

"You might have not been taught Mana Sequence before so I’ll try to simplify it for you. If you want to think about it simply, it is the firewood while Mana Flow is the lighter."

"It is the molding that allows us to cast spell of varying types, that is why there are spells for fire, water, lightning and the others, instead of just a fixed type."

He explained smoothly.

"Hybrid Spells, they involve combining the Mana Sequence of two spells, adding more complexity to the mana flow, the nodes and the circuit itself, to form a single spell based on the types of both combined spells."

He explained.

He went back to the chalkboard and drew another diagram.

"This is the Mana Sequence of both Aqua Shield and Flame Burst when combined, both are opposite in nature and require slightly more focus in the Aqua section than the Pyro section for results."

"For example, combining both spells with give you Stream Rise, an advanced-rank spell that can be used decisively in battle."

His words hung in the air.

The whole class seemed absorbed in his explanation, all except one of them.

Ezra Ashford.

He could hardly hear what the professor was saying, all his focus was kept in keeping his eyes open.

’Don’t fall asleep.’

He thought.

He couldn’t afford to fall asleep, it simply was acceptable.

During the class he had been thinking about it, while such sleep did grant rest of mind, what about for him, Ezra, who had never had proper sleep for the whole of his life?

Eternal sleep?

The thought itself scared him.

"Professor, does synchronization work for combining all types of magic or is it only specific types that will work together?"

It was Lucas that asked the question.

Ezra held back a curse, it was like the boy wanted the professor to notice him.

"It works for all spells, but to make it work it requires on the caster."

’I’ll just rest my head down.’

Ezra thought.

’Not sleep, just to gather myself.’

His head drooped, and instinctively his hand moved to pillow the fall of his head.

The feeling came back, and Ezra slowly loosed himself.

The class continued.

’Just a little more.’

He thought.

Suddenly, someone tapped him.

Ezra raised his head up in a loud fashion.

"God, what do you want from me? My— "

The words got stuck in his throat as he stared at the man he was talking to....

"Go on, Ashborn, what do you want to say?"
