Chapter 38: It [6]

Roselyn stared at him.
"It was using some sort of invisibility spell so we wouldn’t see it."
Ezra tried to explain to him.
But Roselyn couldn’t hear anything.
Her gaze turned to the body.
’It’s not human.’
She thought.
It was black.
Not skin-color black, though.
Like unnaturally black.
Darkness.
It couldn’t even be called a human, not from its state.
Finally, Ezra’s words broke her out of her trance.
"What should we do now?"
....
Arthur sat in his office.
Two others were in the room.
Roselyn and Ezra, the boy carrying on his shoulders something peculiar.
"What is that?"
From what the boy it was Roselyn that advised him to visit Arthur instead of the headmaster.
From the boy’s look he seemed to thoroughly disagree with her reasoning.
Ezra opened his mouth to speak but before he could, Roselyn already started.
"It tried to attack us and can turn invisible.
She quickly said.
"With what?"
"Magic. It tried to use a spell."
Arthur got up from his seat and walked towards it.
’A monster.’
That was his first thought open seeing it.
It was completely dark.
In fact, the cloak seemed to even make it more visible.
’No.’
He crouched low, his hands brushed against its skin.
It was humanoid.
And from what she said, it was about to use a spell.
A feat that shouldn’t have been possible for a monster.
Moreover....
It’s mana.
Arthur could sense it’s mana.
Not even monsters gave off this much mana, and theirs was because they couldn’t control it.
This one gave off quite a bit.
’Maybe a human?’
He doubted it.
Even with his years of experience he had no idea on what it could be.
"With the amount of mana its giving off, it can’t be a human, but it could use magic too...."
He murmured aloud.
It suddenly clicked in him.
"A spell."
But then, how would a spell use a spell?
He didn’t think about it much, his hand went to its head and he crushed it.
No blood.
As soon as its head was destroyed, it’s body faded into black mist.
"Professor?"
The voice broke him out of his trance and he realized that there were two other people in the room.
He stood up and addressed them.
Both students were in his office staring at him.
"Don’t worry about it."
"But sir, it tried to-"
This time it was Ezra.
"I know, it tried to kill you. That’s why I’ll be dealing with the source right now."
Arthur instructed both of them to wait in his office as he opened the door.
’Maybe I should have dealt with that stalker earlier.’
He thought as he closed it behind him.
Though he wasn’t sure if they connected, it was the only thing he had to go on.
His steps were silent, no noises were made as he made his way for the room opposite his office.
Arthur grabbed the doorknob.
He opened the door in a swift motion.
As soon as he did, the sound of glass breaking resounded in the air.
"...."
’So he was expecting this.’
The man, a professor, had bolted through the window as soon as the door opened.
’They might be connected after all.’
He quickly brought out a dagger and threw it through the broken window.
Arthur appeared outside, holding the dagger as he twisted mid-air.
’Got you.’
He threw it again.
"Urkh."
The man groaned out in pain.
This time, it stabbed into the man’s shoulder.
He had landed before, and though his body hurt, he was running. He almost stumbled, but he quickly regained himself and continued running.
However, as soon as Arthur landed he walked after the man. Not the typical running that was expected.
’He told the guards.’
The professor had probably told them a lie, maybe that Arthur was even trying to kill him. Now, the guards were watching him closely.
He smiled as the man got away, leaving his view....
But his smile wasn’t his normal warm smile, the one he showed to his students.
It was cold.
Malicious even.
Most of the guards were watching him now, some even approaching him.
Even the students were staring at him, not sure of the sight they were seeing.
’Ugoku Raijin.’
He vanished from their view.
Essentially, teleporting.
But teleporting was impossible, even for the greatest mages. Maybe it would be possible for Sage-ranked, but for mages who only had grandmaster-ranked spells, it was truly impossible.
"What the hell?!"
One of the guards murmured, unsure of the sight he was witnessing.
Did a sorcerer just teleport?
....
A figure crouched low in an alleyway.
He had just ran all the way from the Academy grounds just to find a safe place.
A feat that was only possible with adrenaline, and now that it was gone his lungs felt they were dying.
It was just to get away from one man.
But it was worth it.
"Bastard!"
But still, he couldn’t get go of his lingering hatred.
"Fucking pedophile of a professor!"
Just when he had just failed to murder the princess, the man, Arthur, suddenly barged into the room.
Like he knew just exactly who it was that had tried to murder the princess, like he knew who he was, where he was, and what exactly he would do.
"Who the fuck does he think he is? Fucking God?!"
Just what kind of mind did he have to know all that.
"Are you talking about me?"
A voice behind him asked innocently.
The tone felt innocent, and it was a whisper at that. However, the man shuddered uncontrollably at it.
"Fuck you."
The man lashed out.
He threw his right hand backwards, going for a blind hit.
Arthur caught it easily.
"You shouldn’t speak like that, especially about me."
"...."
The man felt a strong force on his head.
Like a kick? Or a strong blow?
The pain quickly left and he was spinning.
"...."
He saw his body falling lifelessly onto the ground.
Arthur had just kicked his head off.
"...."
But there was something wrong about his body, he didn’t remember it always being this black.
"...."
Slowly, he realized what he was.
"I’m just a clone, aren’t I?"
His.... No, it’s head fell onto the ground.
And it lost all sight.
.....
d created the first cloning spell, though it wasn’t perfect, it was still essentially cloning. Maybe that was part of it’s appeal.
But it offered a complete 360 vision without overloading the brain. That was its main appeal.
Due to the attention he received he left late at night, to his home.
A house, not too big, just right for only one person.
"Are you home, father?"
A voice came from the kitchen.
He smiled brightly today, not the usual ones he did to make her think he was alright.
But a bright smile, a true genuine one.
"Coming."
He held his briefcase, the one that had his letter of approval in it.
He went in the direction of the kitchen.
A young girl, no older than 16, was chopping vegetables.
She had brown hair that was styled into a bob-cot.
His daughter.
Ethan Ross’s daughter. Vivienne Ross.
She noticed his smile.
"I got something for you."
He fished his hand into his briefcase and retrieved a certificate.
She watched him as he brought it out.
Finally, he retrieved it. Holding it up like it was the most valuable thing in the world.
An admission letter, it had been delivered to him when he was in the venue.
"You’ve been given a full scholarship too, the full four years."
{Ms. Vivienne Ross,
Your talent has been noticed, you have been given a place in Lavender Academy.
UECE (United Empires Certification Exams) rank: 110}
She held it with trembling hands.
Suddenly, she hugged the man in front of her.
"Thank you, dad."
He dropped his briefcase and caressed her head.
"It was your own talent and effort that got you here."
After a while, she stopped hugging him, turning back to the chopping board.
"I’m making stew, I know it isn’t celebratory food but—"
"Anything you make is celebratory food."
He interjected.
Her face had lit up with an undescribable joy, one that made all the hours he spent working on the spell worth it.
It truly was worth it.
"I’ll go have a shower."
He didn’t bother getting his briefcase, he left the kitchen and went straight for the bathroom.
The cold water from the shower ran down his body.
’I can’t believe it.’
Even though he had done it, he still found it hard to believe.
His spell was "groundbreaking" according to them, the worst part was that he didn’t believe it the first time he got it.
But, he was proved wrong.
It was "revolutionary".
In fact, it was so good that the Scholars Institute believed the world wasn’t ready for it.
They had taken it.
But he was given such a large sum that he was 100% sure it could be overlooked.
"300 million."
That was the price of a lower master-ranked spell. For a spell he had spent only two years working on, it was the greatest thing he could ask for.
With that, he could live a comfortable life.
One without worry, or stress. He didn’t even have to
